Check to make sure the Vacuum Suction Knob is turned towards “Floor Suction.” Or there could be large debris clogging the brush roll rotation. Your dirt container may not be seated properly or may be full. Press the Tank Release button and remove.
Your dirty water tank may not be secured tightly. Check the rubber tab on the dirty water tank and press firmly on all edges to secure it tightly. The accessory hose door also needs to be closed securely. Check the door and make sure it is locked in place.
Often when your machine is not picking up it is due to loss of suction. If your vacuum cleaner turns on but won`t pick up on carpet or bare floors, something is impeding suction. You may need to change the vacuum bag, unclog the hose, replace/clean the filters, replace the hose, change the belt, or repair the motor.
Locate the brush reset button on the lower back right of the vacuum. Press the button to reset the brushroll To ensure the brush has been reset, plug the vacuum back into the electrical outlet.
It`s the foam that brings the dirt out of the carpet. Dirt particles stick to it, and it is this that makes your water dirty when it is sucked up. If your carpet cleaning solution is too foamy, or you leave foam in the carpet, more dirt will be attracted to it.
Yes, you should keep cleaning the carpet until the water is clear. This will ensure that your carpets are clean and free of dirt, dust, and other allergens. However, you should be careful not to scrub too hard or use too much water. Doing so can damage the carpet and lead to more stains in the future.
Check the dirty water tank and make sure there are no clogs in the hose below it. Remove the filter and clean debris from both the screen and filter. Also empty the dirty water tank and leave the filter out to dry completely before replacing it.

No Water My Bissell rug shampooer does not eject water or saop whan I pull the saop trigger on the handle. I checked both filters and they are clean. Then, I removed the container that sucks up the water and pulled the saop trigger, water barely came out of the tubes. I tried to clean the rug in our family room and the rug was not wet when I finished, no water coming out to clean the rug. HELP HELP HELP!!! I live in Colorado is there a Bissell repair shop near Denver, HELP!!! Thanks Dominick ema
Does water squirt out of the hose nozzle, if it does, then check the heater inside the handle asm. Make sure that where the tubes hook up to it are not clogged. If water doesn’t squirt, check for the seal at the bottom of the tank, it needs to be on the tank, not in the hole, this is for the soap bottle also, there is a seal on the bottom of it as well. The flow indictor cap is leaking air or maybe is too tight. If you had the top cover off, make sure that the tubes are routed right so as not to get pinched when the cover is put back on, the smart mix knob should be in the water setting and that the piston is on the bottom of the smart mix knob. Pump is bad. Try running a mix of vinegar and water to see if that unclogs the lines. Is the top cover and the base tight together in the back, sometimes the top breaks loose and it will raise up and it can’t spray, just re-fasten it down.
.Bissel’s Number is: 1-800-237-7691, they can tell you were to get service in your area.
I have a bissell quickwash 1950-e. I bought it Jan. 2006, and have only used it 8-10 times, I live in a very hard water area, so I though if I put some vinegar in with the cleaning solution it would get rid of any hard water deposits, unfortunatly the solution went lumpy in the tank and stoped spraying out water, I have opened it, hose clean, sprayer not blocked, x at bottom of water container when depresed water trickles out, component that opens the x when water container placed, also ran wate
Hard to say what is causing your problem, replacing the cap and insert on the water tank may help, part #2041111, even tho it may trickle out water when depressed, they can still be bad. The other thing would be the rod not relesing the water like it should. The big draw back to this model is Bissell has obsoleted all of its parts and most are no longer available. Might be wiser to buy new.
I have a Bissell Pro 2x carpet cleaner. The water heats properly as well as spraying the cleaning product. However, when I go to suction the water from the carpets, the 2 in 1 water tank bladder works properly but there is no dirty water outside the bladder. I have only used this carpet cleaner ~ 5 times and in the beginning I had to empty the suctioned water quite frequently as it was dirty and it could not not hold any more water. So I have done 1 room and all the dirt remains in the carpet
Check that the suction cone is not blocked. Check that the filter or hose to the bladder isn’t blocked as well.
I have a Bissel proheat 7901 carpet cleaner and it is not sucking the water up. Normally when I clean the water gets sucked back up and I have to empty the dirty tank. Now no water is in the tank when I am done cleaning. Please help I cannot afford to take it to the shop.
I’m not sure if this will help but I had the same problem and was about ready to pull my hair out. I ended up taking the fill tank off and if you look inside where the red overflow flap is you will find a small screened opening. I found that mine was pretty clogged up with debris but once I removed the mess and put my machine back together it is now sucking like a champ. I hope this helps. Here’s hoping that you don’t have the pay for a service person to look at it.
I have a Sunbeam Model Number 4065-000 and there is white particles comming out of the holes in the bottom. I think it is because we used tap water and there is a lot of deposits in the water. I read on the box that it was ok to use tap water and not distilled water. Is ther any way to clean the inside out to get the deposits cleaned out without affecting the possibility of doing something to the cloths that I will iron after cleaning the iron?
If the deposits are recent and still fairly soft, running a tank of vinegar through the machine should remove the deposits (obviously not using on any clothes, hold it over a sink). if the deposits are more stubborn, you can use a cleaning agent like CLR. rinse the tank out thoroughly after and run through a tank of clean water. good luck!
I own a Bissell mod #7901-6 I loaned out and now it does not squirt the water out to clean the carpet…help please.
Bissell 8920 proheat x2 brushes not turning i only noticed this after i finished cleaning.. or kinda cleaning because of the brushes ntot turning.. water comes out fine suction is fine but its not scrubbing so its not as clean as it could be. manual part works well water coming out hot. I did take it apart and cleaned off all the hairs in hopes maybe that was it.. put it together still nothing.. No idea how the belts should look onit and i cant find a picture or a video showing how belts look o
.Here’s a link to a very helpful video that shows you step by step on how to access and replace the belt on your machine. When the brushes stop spinning, but the rest of the machine works fine, this is a tell-tale sign that your belt has gone bad.

Bissell will spray water when set to water rinse, but as soon as it is set to light, normal, or heavy cleaning, there is no spray. I have tried priming but to no avail. I put plain water in the solution tank to test without ay success. It is like it loses it’s prime whenever you try to use a solution mix. Once you set it back to water rinse only and go through the priming steps, it is OK. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Please check the following with liquid in both tanks.
– Check to see if the machine will spray through the hose with the setting on tools. If it does, the pump is fine. Continue troubleshooting.
– Check for debris on spray tips. Clean them with a soft brush (on old tooth brush works well). The spray tips may be lifted out for easier access.
– Ensure the tank lid is properly attached to the bottom of the tank. To attach this properly, remove the Water Tank from the machine. Hook the front window onto the lip of the bottom container and then allow the window with lid to cover the complete tank. Secure the latch on the back of the bottom tank to the back of the tank lid. THE TANK LID CANNOT BE ATTACHED PROPERLY IF THE BOTTOM TANK IS ALREADY INSTALLED IN THE MACHINE.
– Check the bottom of the Water Tank and the Formula Tank to make sure each has a red auto-load gasket attached. Make sure the Water Tank and the Formula Tank are seated properly. Depress the x on this gasket to ensure this depresses and release back out. Liquid from the tank should dispense.
– Remove the handle completely and re-attach. Once the handle is re-attached, re-attempt to spray.
If the machine continues to not spray, check the following:
REMOVE THE COLLECTION TANK:
• Make sure the unit is set to water rinse
• Remove the smart mix bottle and fill it with water only
• Place the smart mix bottle into the collection tank reservoir
• Run the unit and try to spray. If the machine sprays, you will be able to see the water level decreasing in the smart mix bottle and you will need to replace the bottom tank. It is possibly warped.
