How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :

One of the first things to do when your Dyson vacuum cleaner keeps starting and stopping is to empty the bin. It may be full, or the machine may simply perceive it as too full to continue working. Dyson vacuum cleaners require constant airflow through them to work, and a full bin can stop this from happening.
If you find that your machine is turning off intermittently, the filter in your vacuum is most likely full and covering the ventilation system. Remove the filter, then empty and wash it. Allow the filter to dry for at least 24 hours, or until it is completely dry.
It`s possible there`s a power consumption issue, with there just not being enough residual charge to run the machine. A new battery should fix this. My other thought is that it`s overheating. If too much power is pushed through the motor, which MAX power does, it could stop after a few seconds if it become hot.
Hot environments speed up battery aging. So it`s best to avoid cleaning the car in hot weather or leaving your vacuum in rooms that experience direct sunlight for prolonged periods. The same goes for cold porches and garages in winter.
There are many reasons why your Dyson Airwrap may be overheating and shutting off. This could include excessive use, a clogged filter, or blocked air vents. Fixing this issue is relatively straightforward. First, make sure to give your device a break in between uses.
If your vacuum cleaner keeps turning off, this could be due to the following reasons: Blockages – check the hose and head for any obstructions. Filter – always check your filters, if these are clogged this could be causing the vacuum cleaner to work harder and lose suction power.
If the machine switches on and off in quick succession, while making a pulsing noise, it could be an indication to either a dirty/blocked filter or an obstruction in the machine affecting the airflow. In the event of an airways obstruction the machine is designed to pulsate.
Most problems arise because of a blockage – if not a dirty filter or cyclone unit, then something could be caught in the wand or the brush bar. Once again, the lack of suction could be caused by a dirty filter or a blockage somewhere in the vacuum`s system.
Summary. Dyson batteries should last around 2-6 years before needing to be replaced. This wide range reflects the fact that how you care for and maintain the battery will affect how long it lasts. If you want your vacuum`s battery to last longer, make sure it`s stored at room temperature.
In many cases, you probably can repair a Dyson yourself, especially when it comes to common issues (see below). However, even if your machine needs some extra TLC by a Dyson expert, it can be worth getting it repaired.
The battery is designed to be left on charge permanently, and this will ensure that the vacuum is fully charged when it`s next used. Once the battery is fully charged, your cordless vacuum won`t use any more electricity. All batteries differ and may vary during their lifetime.
When your Dyson no longer powers on even after charging the most likely cause is a damaged battery. This means the battery will no longer hold a charge and will need to be replaced. Once a new battery is purchased you can learn how to replace it by visiting our battery replacement page here.
Description. This genuine Dyson vacuum part is the reset switch for the Dyson DC24 and D25 uprights. This switch needs to be activated if you experience a power surge while vacuuming, and your vacuum turns off as a result.
Check For Clogs or Blocks In The Vacuum

Check the hoses, the filters, and throughout the vacuum, and clean out any blockages or clogs. Vacuums will likely also have a recommended cooldown time to ensure that the vacuum won`t overheat. You will need to wait for that time before you turn the vacuum back on.

The LED light on the end of the handle will pulse with a blue LED light when charging, and the light will go out when fully charged. It can take up to four hours to fully charge your battery.
3 cleaning modes Power button Press the power button to start cleaning. Lean to clean Lean handle back to start a clean. Leave upright to direct suction to the wand. The wand or tools are attached to the end of the hose.
A Dyson handheld that keeps cutting out is known as pulsing. A Dyson V7 pulsing problem can be very frustrating! A few reasons why your Dyson is pulsing are potential blockages or problems with the bin or filter.
A vacuum cleaner can run continuously for 30 – 60 min each time. The vacuum cleaner has no suction power. For example, a hair cannot be sucked up.
However, in the MAX mode, when the device utilizes more current, it will give about 2 minutes of usage. After buying the new battery, it needs to be charged for about 3.5 hours, and 40 minutes thereafter. Check the link to know more about Dyson battery life.
It can take up to four hours to fully charge your battery. Your battery has been designed to be left on charge. Your machine won`t operate or charge if the ambient temperature is below 5°C (41°F).
A solid blue light indicates that the machine is in normal operating mode. A flashing blue light indicates that there is no power, please charge the battery. A flashing amber light indicates that there is no power or a temporary fault (e.g. too hot/cold).
Plug your machine into a working plug socket and press the yellow `Test` button. Once the red `Reset` button has popped out, unplug your machine from the plug socket. While unplugged, press the red `Reset` button. Plug your machine back into a working plug socket and test the power again.
Interviewed by Fast Company (May 2007), Dyson asserted the importance of failure in one`s life, “I made 5,127 prototypes of my vacuum before I got it right. There were 5,126 failures.
Filters in Dyson air purifiers have been designed to last up to a full year, based on 12 hours of daily use. However, the filter may need replacing earlier depending on environmental conditions. If you live in a highly polluted city, you may find it needs changing sooner.

I turn my dyson on and it runs for 5 min then turns off
ANSWER : I have taking very good care of my dc 35. Paid a pretty penny for it so I cleaned filter every 3 to 4 uses even though it never seemed to need it. After about 8 or 9 months it started cutting off after five minutes or so. After looking up this issue I’ve notice it’s common. I find that tech keep saying filter needs cleaned or it has been ran with a clogged filter to long and has shorted the sensor. I would like to disagree! Like other electronics in different devices they ware out. Depending on quality of parts and electronics will decide on how long something works. Well that and how well it’s taking care of. I believe this issue is caused by an inferior part. With that being said the thermal switch needs replaced. On who’s dime not sure!
