Your Backstitch Lever Is Broken

Your backstitch lever is durable, but it can break and make your machine get stuck in reverse. The spring on your backstitch lever can also get bent. This repair is complex and best taken care of by a sewing machine repair technician.

If your sewing machine sews backward, the reverse button may be stuck in the reverse position. To fix this issue, press and release the button to see if it releases and allows the machine to sew in the forward direction.
If your fabric isn`t moving and the machine is making the normal sewing-like sounds, check to see if the machine is threaded correctly. If it`s threaded correctly (and the presser foot is down on top of the feed dogs), it`s likely your machine is set to the “free-motion” or “darning” set, which disables the feed dogs.
Locate your reverse stitch knob, button or switch. Reverse stitch mechanisms are most often located on the front of your machine, either on the center of the faceplate, above the needle or on the left-most front.
Reverse Cycle Stitches

As the fabric moves, the machine forms two stitches forward and one stitch backward, sewing over itself. This stitch is best used for reinforcement in stress areas, such as armholes, pant crotch seams, and children`s wear.

This can be caused by several things, such as a thread getting tangled, the fabric not being fed evenly, or a build-up of lint or dust in the machine. Jams can also be caused by the needle hitting something inside the machine, so always keep an eye on the needle while sewing.
Check that the upper thread is feeding freely without obstruction (like getting stuck behind the spool cap or getting caught on any rough spots o the thread spool itself). Make sure the bobbin is correctly seated in the bobbin case (bobbin holder), and check that the upper thread tension is not set too tightly.
Check that the machine is threaded correctly.

Return the upper thread tension to the standard setting, and then refer to Upper thread tightened up to correct the threading. The bobbin thread appears as a straight line on the wrong side of the fabric. The stitching on the wrong side of the fabric is loose or has slack.

Article Talk. Backstitch or back stitch and its variants stem stitch, outline stitch and split stitch are a class of embroidery and sewing stitches in which individual stitches are made backward to the general direction of sewing.
The first sewing machines were designed to sew forward, but in 1937 a company released a reverse-sewing machine. This innovation made it easier for people with limited hand strength or dexterity to sew fabrics correctly.
A massive nest of tangled thread is usually a result of the sewing machine being improperly threaded. Just because the tangled mess is on the bobbin side of the stitching, don`t assume the fault lies with the bobbin. To correct this problem, put the presser foot up and unthread the sewing machine entirely.
Anything from lack of tension, too much lint around the backstitch lever or a broken needle could be among the common reasons why your sewing machine backstitch is not working and jamming.
Sometimes the bobbin case can be out of place and will not allow the handwheel to turn. If you broke a needle and it fell into the shuttle area, it can also cause the handwheel to jam up. 5. If the issue persists, your machine will require servicing.
In general, sewing machines are known to last well over five years and sometimes as long as 25 years. However, the conditions that the sewing machine is exposed to will make a huge difference in its lifespan.

.I have this machine. I use it for my heavy sewing, as it will go through anything. I would be happy to copy the manual and send it to you for copy costs. Just let me know. I would love to know what knowledge you have gained about this machine. It does not appear to be an easy machine to find info on, may not have produced a lot? I had no idea it was not a European produced machine.

Our beautiful Bernina 730 sewing machine has been stored in the garage in its original case, and that wrapped in plastic, for a few years now. Temperatures have been both hot and cold in the garage, but the environment was dust-free.

We have brought the Bernina in, set it up, oiled it as specified in the manual, with the original sewing machine oil. We have correctly threaded the machine and the bobbin thread is up.

When we press on the pedal to sew, the machine gets electricity and buzzes

ANSWER : Hello and thank you for using Fixya ….
From what you describe there can be only 2 causes…Either the machine is still stuck ..and the motor buzzes cause it can not spin it ..and in this case it needs to be oiled more..and be spun by hand until it moves well and free…and after that it will work ..or during the storage ..from condense or so ..the motor is stuck ..and needs to be checked…In this second case ..it probably need to be oiled too (the motor ) ..and the coils changed..
Have a nice day ..!

I have a dyson alergy machine, I have emptied it, but I would like to clean the filter. I can’t locate where the filter is or how to get to it to clean it. The manuel for this is not with the machine. This machine came with the house we live in. Could you help me please?

Laurie

ANSWER : Greetings Irlawren3,
.
.It all depends on the model you currently have. The filters on some are above the motor and some are on the side housing. Its pretty clear looking at the unit where the filters are located. I would suggest investigating your unit and looking for the filter.
.
.When you do locate the filter, it is to be washed with plain water and allowed to dry for at least 12 hours before being put back into the unit.
.
One thing that helps determine the model is the color also. What color is it?
.
.Thanks!

My Singer Sewing machine (model 6215) is now only sewing in reverse. After pressing the backstitch button, the button seemed to stick in the backstitch position. I was finally able to pull the button out but my machine continues to only stitch backwards. What do I do now?
ANSWER : It’s stuck inside. Open it up so you can see inside the bottom, look for the feed dog mechanism and you’ll find where length of step is varied, this is where the reversing takes place too. Tapping gently and oiling will free it up.
