STEP 4: Empty the canister.

Your shop vac has a built-in safety device that stops the vacuum from filling once it`s full. There is a ball or puck in the filter attachment that floats, and when the water reaches an unsafe height, this device blocks the suction.

To locate your product`s model number, simply find the product`s label showing UL listing information and electrical specifications. The model number is clearly marked and printed there. This label is normally on the back of the product.
But a shop vac has two holes. One hole near the top permits replacement air to enter the container. When a hose is attached to this hole, dirt and debris can be sucked into the container. Air circulates out another hole to equalize the constant airflow in the shop vac and keep the motor cooled as it`s being used.
Then on Dec. 24, 2020, the Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber of Commerce announced the company had been purchased. Hangzhou Equipment Holdings, LLC, a subsidiary of Hangzhou GreatStar Industrial Co., Ltd., and GreatStar Tools USA acquired nearly all of Shop-Vac Corporation`s assets.
Initially, shop vacs were mostly used for industrial purposes. Nowadays, they are more customized with added features. Hence, they can also act as household items. On the other hand, home vacuums are only used in households and cannot be utilized for industrial purposes.
Without the bag the fine dust will go through the filter and blow back into your room. Vac with a HEPA cartridge filter: You do not need a collection bag. Vac with a foam sleeve: Some of our smaller vacs come with a foam sleeve and a collection bag. For these vacs, you must use the collection bag with the foam sleeve.
The company was purchased by Greatstar Tools USA back in 2021 and looked to bring more workers into the well-known business.
The bottom line is that Shop-Vac units shouldn`t be utilized without a filter. The vacuum will work without one, but it might not work better. Numerous other consequences might occur. You may create an even bigger mess than the one you needed to clean.
Shop-Vac® brand hoses will measure roughly: 1.25″, 1.5″ or 2.5″. 1.25″ accessories fit vacs with a 1.25″ hose diameter. The hose opening is roughly the size of a golf ball.
1.1 Duty Cycle

As a rule, most of the smaller canister or shop-type vacs use high-speed vacuum producers. These tend to run at a very high rpm, which can reduce the vacuum`s lifespan to as little as 800 hours — or about 18 months, assuming you use your vacuum for about three hours each day.

Most types of vacuums last around 5 to 8 years, with brand and lifestyle making the most significant difference in lifespan.
The air filter traps particles as the air travels through the vacuum cleaner. If the filter is clogged, the vacuum cleaner will not have proper suction. If your vacuum filter is clogged, refer to your owner`s manual for cleaning instructions.
Not only does a regular vacuum lack the power to suck up big pieces adequately, but it`s also likely too small and delicate for heavy debris. The shop vac`s powerful motor and its larger, tougher hose are made to handle those nuts and bolts, and its tank can take in water.
Shop vacs can be your best friend when it comes to keeping a clean and tidy shop. They are capable of lots of great functions, such as sucking up dirt or dust that is on the floor in addition to picking up small objects like nails from hardwood floors with no problem at all!
Blockage – when a vacuum cleaner becomes unusually loud, it is normally because of a blockage of some sort. This is a problem that is easily solved by turning off the cleaner, check for blockages in the pipes, and remove them. You can also check and empty the canister to remove any possible blockages there as well.
Shop Vacuum Cleaners Shop vacuum cleaners, usually known by the generic trademark Shop-Vac® or shop vac, are vacuum cleaners specially designed to handle the larger and tougher cleaning tasks associated with workshops, machine shops, and other facilities with tougher debris.
GreatStar Tools acquired the assets of Shop-Vac in December 2020, three months after the former owners began a phased shutdown. It purchased SK Tools in July 2021, from Ideal Industries Inc. and moved production from Sycamore, Illinois, to Williamsport. SK makes more than 3,000 products.
Asthmatic American inventor James Spangler sold his idea for an electric broomstick-like cleaner—with cloth filter and dust-collection bag attached to the long handle—to William Hoover in 1908. His invention proved to be arguably the first truly practicable domestic vacuum cleaner.
Neither a shop vac or a household vacuum—or a robot vac, for that matter—is safe to use to vacuum ash, for a variety of reasons. However there is one type of vacuum made to replace your shovel and bucket. Invest in a good ash vacuum to deal with ash from your fireplace.
A typical price for a Shop Vacuum is $109 but can range from approximately $25 to $709.
Since the filter is made of paper, you can clean it with water, but you should let it completely dry before reuse. You can also stock up and save by purchasing this filter in a two-pack.
32mm is the most common size used for vacuum cleaners, ducted vacuum cleaners and backpack vacuum cleaners. However some less common sizes are 35mm, 36mm or 38mm. The best way to find out what size will fit your vacuum cleaner is to measure the INTERNAL diameter of one of your old vacuum cleaner tools.
The longer a hose on a dust extractor, the more air friction it encounters. Portable dust extractor hoses aren`t perfectly smooth like the tubes you`ll find running through a shop. Those ridges create friction as air passes over them and reduces performance the longer the hose.

I have an old Shop Vac model 3331.5. This is a 12 gallon 1.5 hight peak shop vac with a detachable blower. After many years I decided to use the blower feature, but have lost the lost the manual. Question; how do I attach the hoses to the blower? The motor has that cap on it the direct the flow of air in one direction and the wide hoses do not fit over it. I may be missing a part, but I would think the directional cap would have to come off anyway.
ANSWER : Remove the cap that directs the air and insert the hose in there.

I think I need to replace the main battery in my small floor vac – the one that can be hand held like a dust buster or work like a small floor vac. I need to know how to remove the battery and replace it with what kind of new battery..
ANSWER : I see my sense of humor is not appreciated…it was only a joke. Anyway, here is what you do: First, slide the battery cover off the bottom of the hand held unit. Remove the battery from the motor housing by pressing the tab on connector “A”; this releases the battery from the motor housing. Plug the new battery (LC-R064R2P) into connector “A”. When installing the battery the wires have to go in first and they must be placed in front of the battery or you’ll never get the battery cover back on.

Central vac our central vac will not work unless the main vac in the garage is switched on manualy…. its sucking fine but i have to switch it off at the main switch in the garage after i have used it normaly i just plug in the hose and vac away and it switches itself off we have just had cable installed with a fisher guy in the walls do you think that would be the problem thanks a lot
ANSWER : It is possible that the low voltage wiring that controls your central vacuum has been damaged during the cable work. You can check to see if the low voltage relay is working by shorting the two terminals together at the unit. Just disconnect the two small (18-22 gauge) wires from the unit and short across the terminals where the wires connect. If the unit comes on, the vacuum is fine, and it is most likely the low voltage control wires that have been damaged. It should be a pretty easy fix, if you can get to where the wires are located. They are probably just pulled apart at a joint. Good Luck!!

I have a Series G Kirby Model G7D. The other day when I was vacuuming all of a sudden the TechDrive (Power Drive Assist N/D) pedal fell off. I see the hole that it goes into but when I put it in it’s loose and falls out and doesn’t control the power drive anymore. When I shook the vacuum I heard something rattling around inside the vacuum head. So I unscrewed the bottom and looked inside and found a small metal part labeled K3 on one side and T on the other side. It looks like it would fit
ANSWER : Hi, I have a Kirby G4 and i’v replaced the carbon brushes myself using a step by step guide however since its been back together it worked for about five minutes it then started sparking from the inside!!(a lot!!) I’v obviously touched something i shouldn’t have but haven’t a clue what!! Any suggestions would be appreciated! 🙂
