One caveat: Handling this vacuum`s 23 pounds takes some muscle. In our member survey, Kenmore canisters earned a very good score for predicted reliability and an average rating for owner satisfaction.
A canister vacuum consists of a wheeled body that is attached to a vacuum wand and power head via a flexible plastic hose. The canister portion of the vacuum contains the main motor, filter, and any dust bags; depending on the model, the power head may also contain a smaller motor.
Drum Vacuum Cleaners

A Drum Vacuum Cleaner is similar to a Canister Vacuum Cleaner, but it is bigger and more powerful. It is usually a vertical cylindrical drum with a separate vacuum head attached to the main unit with a flexible hose.

The choice of canister vs. upright vacuums depends heavily upon your usage, personal preference, and budget. Canister vacuums are usually quieter, provide better suction for bare floors, and cost more. Upright vacuums, on the other hand, are efficient carpet cleaners, less expensive, and easier to move and store.
How long do Kenmore vacuums last? A. It`s suggested that the typical vacuum can last up to an average of eight years. With proper maintenance, a Kenmore vacuum could last that long or longer.
Ovens, Cooktops, and Ranges: Nearly all Kenmore cooking products are now made by Frigidaire. A small number of ranges come from LG. Washers and Dryers: Nearly all new top-load Kenmore washers and matching dryers are made by Whirlpool Corp.
A canister vacuum will last you eight or more years. Most vacuums in this category are a bit like upright models but feature a larger, more robust body at the lower portion of the machine.
The Benefits of Canister Vacuums

The hose makes it easy to clean areas like stairs, underneath furniture and on higher areas likes blinds, drapes, and upholstery. In cramped areas, they are ideal because you can clean by just moving the wand instead of the entire machine.

The better the filtration, the fewer allergens escape back into your home. Bagged vacuums often have HEPA-rated bags, replaceable exhaust filters or both. Bagless canisters usually have permanent, washable filters, some with HEPA ratings.
Wipe the inside of the canister with a dry microfiber cloth. Wash the canister in the sink with warm soapy water. Rinse away all soap suds. Let the canister dry completely before replacing it.
In general, bagged models tend to work more efficiently than bagless vacuum cleaners because they have an extra layer of protection for their filtration system. If someone in your household lives with allergies or asthma, it`s in your best interest to choose a model that will filter out the air as best as possible.
The best man-made vacuum so far, Extreme Ultra-high Vacuum, ≈ 10Torr, corresponds roughly to a density of ≈ 3×10particles per cubic meter. The average density of the entire Universe (as calculated by WMAP/NASA), is said to be ≈ 9.9×10kg/m, equivalent to ≈ 5.9 particles (protons) per cubic meter.
On average a brushroll should be replaced every year or two. If you`re not sure if the vacuum is working as good as it could or should be, replacing the brushroll can be an easy fix .
The bottom line. Many vacuum brands recommend changing the bag before it becomes full, at least every three months.
Kenmore is a recognized brand in the appliance industry and has been around over 100 years. Kenmore offers high-quality refrigerators in a wide range of sizes and models at affordable prices. Variety: Kenmore offers a huge selection of appliances, from mini-refrigerators to giant, commercial appliances.
Kenmore-brand appliances: at least some models are made in USA. Available from Sears and KMart. (Sears is a retailer, not a manufacturer, so Kenmore washers and dryers are manufactured by many different companies, including Amana, Frigidaire, GE, Jenn-Air, LG, and Whirlpool.
There are varying degrees of quality and value when it comes to vacuums; if you paid a lot for the appliance, repairs are likely worth it, but we recommend that you don`t spend more than half of the original price for any repairs.
Canister vacuums are best for for working with hardwood floors – and less with high pile carpets. They come with soft bristles (or no bristles at all), high power suction for catching every bit of dust left in those wooden nooks and crannies, and easy wheeling for when the chore comes to call.
If all you hear from the vacuum unit is a click at the when you try to start the vacuum motor from inside the house, then the motor in the unit is dead and has to be replaced. A strong odor from the shellac, which coats the copper coil windings, is an indicator that the motor is about to or has burnt out.
Most manufacturers recommend you change your filter on average every 3-6 months. However, it is recommended to change your filter even earlier depending on usage and allergy care. Most newer vacuum models use more than one filter.
Cylinder vacuums are typically more powerful and have a larger dust capacity, so need emptying less frequently. They also have a larger cleaning radius — the length of the cord — than upright vacuums. That`s why you`ll find the professionals use this type of vacuum cleaner in offices and hotels.
Bagless Vacuum Cleaners

No need to worry about keeping bags on hand or where to find more. There is no extra expense for buying bags. If your bagless vacuum has a clear cylinder or tray, it`s cool to actually see all of the dust and dirt particles swirling around in the dust cylinder under high pressure.

HEPA (High-Efficiency Particulate Air) vacuums differ from conventional vacuums in that they contain filters that are capable of trapping extremely small, micron-sized particles. A true HEPA filter can trap 99.97 percent of all airborne particles larger than 0.3 microns.
Canister Filter – An enclosed type of filter, canister filters can go the longest between cleanings – they may only need to be cleaned every three to four months.

I had the vacuum cleaner question about the canister and the wand/powerhead… the Kenmore Progressive Vacuum canister model 116.25812 and the canister not powering off without unplugging the vacuum. The solution I received that they both run on their own switch so it is normal makes sense. However, is there a power switch on the canister anywhere? The only way for the canister to be turned off is by unplugging it. Any ideas? One would think there would be a switch. I am new to fixya and hope
ANSWER : Hi. On some models, one switch controls all of the power. Your issue, which is no working switch is almost certainly a blown triac on the circuit board in the canister – kenmore part number KC86WBZRZ000

Looks like a common fault with this particular model judging by the number of complaints on the web.

Power nozzle not working on my vac but does on another vac
ANSWER : If pushing the reset button doesn’t help try having your local Aerus dealer check out the 2 prongs in the power head where it all connects. Sometimes they go bad.

No power to head of Kenmore Progressive canister vac
ANSWER : The extension wands are defective and have trouble with their plug connectors on each end. The power head has a reset button on top right but no lights mean no power which means the wand isn’t connecting the power to anything.

Sears has a new replacement — too bad it isn’t recalled so you could get it for free ($106.59 + tax + shipping). 2nd sweeper — same problem.

1st sweeper: I just took needlenose pliers and pulled connectors out a little further (Too bad I can’t seem to make the 2nd sweeper work with this easily. It might be one of the connectors or the wiring harness inbetween with a break.) Can’t buy the wiring harness for this or connectors, just the wand.

If anyone has a working wand you want to sell me email me at [email protected]. Thanks!

Power head for Kenmore Canister Vac
ANSWER : Another potential problem for the increase in difficulty in turning the beater bar (drum) could stem from extremely dirty bearings, located at each end of the beater bar. I’ve seen hair knotted up to the point it chokes the bar and significantly reduces its ability tpo turn.

Central Vac will not turn on.
ANSWER : These problems are nearly exclusively caused by a bad circut board and replacing it is the fix. Bad boards can cause many different effects so its nearly impossible to be sure. The 9v signal wire is not enough to short out an entire unit so it is unlikely the hose. If it is a direct connect system and you are pulling power from the 110 somehow that would cause main unit problems but that is unlikely at best. Sounds like a failed board to me.
