Kenmore 25512/ 25513 Progressive Canister Vacuum\015 I just purchased a Kenmore progressive canister off of ebay. I received it today 7/6 and there is a shortage from the hose prong to the canister prong. There is too much room and the hose is wiggly and its loosing the connection. The power keeps coming on and off and sometimes take 15- 30 seconds for the vacuum to come back on. Does that mean the hose is not the correct hose with the canister… is it the wrong hose or how do I make the hose fit snug into the canister? I have never has this problem with Kenmore Progressive s before.\015

How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :

Check service panel for tripped breakers/blown fuses. If breaker is tripped, reset it. If fuse is blown, replace it. If vacuum cleaner is plugged in, be sure power button is in the off position before resetting breaker/changing fuse.
Clog located in the vacuum hose

Turn the unit on and feel the suction at the end of the hose handle. If there is no or low suction, then the clog is in the hose. You can remove the clog by running a long, stiff object through the hose, such as a butter knife, starting at the wall end.

Check for a plugged hose:

Plugged vacuum hoses are sometimes the reason for a loss in suction. Hoses can get clogged with hair, dust bunnies, string, or anything else that can`t pass through the other end of the hose. Airways inside the machine should be looked at as well. Wherever there is an air passage, check it.

This overload reset switch button (part number 8191505) is for vacuums. Overload reset switch button 8191505 resets the overload switch when you push it. Unplug the vacuum before installing this part. Wear work gloves to protect your hands.
How long do Kenmore vacuums last? A. It`s suggested that the typical vacuum can last up to an average of eight years. With proper maintenance, a Kenmore vacuum could last that long or longer.
Looking at the wiring diagram (stuck way on the side) there is a standard fuse ! That hot wire directly from the power cord goes to a fuse. I (carefully) cut off the black shrink wrapping, check the continuity and zip.
Check that the vacuum cleaner is plugged into a working power outlet and that fuses and breakers don`t need resetting. An activated thermal cut-out due to a blockage is the next most likely cause of the problem. Check for blockages in the hose and filters, and remove any obstructions that you find.
Engine loses power or won`t start

If the pressure is too high, it can cause a head gasket to be pushed out, can cause cylinder head hardware to break or in some cases, will cause detonation inside the engine.

Generally, the vacuum hoses on your vehicle are made from rubber and are supposed to last for a lifetime.
Hint: If there is suction from the hose but not the main base, there may be a blockage in the base connecting tube or the beater bar may not be rotating. Inspect the base of the vacuum cleaner for blockages and ensure that the belts are not broken.
Using silicone tape to patch a vacuum hose is a simple and effective way to repair a damaged hose.. Silicone tape, also known as self-fusing silicone tape or Tommy Tape, is a flexible, waterproof material that can be easily wrapped around a vacuum hose to create a strong, airtight seal.
Taking Care Of Your Vacuum Cleaner

The only time a hose needs to be replaced is when there`s a puncture in it that prevents proper suction. If you change the tube and it still doesn`t run correctly, then there`s another issue which might indicate the need for a new vacuum cleaner.

On average, a well-maintained robotic vacuum cleaner can last up to 4-6 years, but some models may last even longer.
Canister vacuums generally have more suction power than upright models. This power makes them particularly well suited for cleaning bare floors. And while they`re also efficient at cleaning carpets, upright vacuums, especially models that use collection bags, tend to be more effective carpet cleaners.
The demise of the once-storied Kenmore appliance brand is the perfect embodiment of Sears` collapse. At the start of this century, Kenmore was one of the top appliance brands in the country, and was only available at Sears stores.
If your vacuum cleaner keeps turning off, this could be due to the following reasons: Blockages – check the hose and head for any obstructions. Filter – always check your filters, if these are clogged this could be causing the vacuum cleaner to work harder and lose suction power.
A damaged vacuum hose, clogged motor air filter or bad suction motor can cause the vacuum cleaner to shut off during use. A tripped overload on the vacuum suction motor can shut off the vacuum cleaner during use.

I had the vacuum cleaner question about the canister and the wand/powerhead… the Kenmore Progressive Vacuum canister model 116.25812 and the canister not powering off without unplugging the vacuum. The solution I received that they both run on their own switch so it is normal makes sense. However, is there a power switch on the canister anywhere? The only way for the canister to be turned off is by unplugging it. Any ideas? One would think there would be a switch. I am new to fixya and hope
ANSWER : Hi. On some models, one switch controls all of the power. Your issue, which is no working switch is almost certainly a blown triac on the circuit board in the canister – kenmore part number KC86WBZRZ000

Looks like a common fault with this particular model judging by the number of complaints on the web.

Progressive Kenmore hose canister connection broken 116,2341130
ANSWER : A regular person with patience can however it is tricky. Kenmore hoses have an arrow at the cuff where the corrugated hose meets the swivel elbow at the machine, and at the cuff where the handle meets the hose. If your parts fit in the handle, the cuff needs to be squeezed slightly out of round at the arrows to allow the handle to be popped out, usually by using a vice and applying a sharp blow by hand to the underside of the hand grip.
If your problem is in the lower sleeve area where dirt gets into the contacts at the machine end, there is a 1″ clip with bayonets on either side. It must be compressed at the bayonets to allow the sleeve to slide off. The internal contact rings should be cleaned and polished with W/D sand paper #600 and then lubed with vaseline. Contact fingers should be spread to apply more pressure on the internal rings before reassembling in opposite order.
When in doubt Panasonic and Kenmore warranty centers will be familiar with these.

Kenmore Canister Vacuum Model 116.23912300 Hose Connection Pipe (KC92PBZTZV06)
ANSWER : To remove the cover. There are two tabs on the connection pipe that hold the hose connector onto the connection pipe, one on each side located on the section of the connection pipe just next to where it bends. They are visible under the lip of the cover if you gently pry up the cover on each side. You have to use two flat-bladed screwdrivers, one for each tab, and gently pry the cover over these tabs, working simultaneously on both tabs. The cover will then slip off onto the hose. Next, pull off the three wire connectors from the hose wires. After that you should be able to lift the hose wires out of the grooves they are in. There are also two latches on the connection pipe that help hold the hose on. Gently raise these without breaking them as you work off the hose. Remove the old hose from the connection pipe. Slip the new hose onto the connection pipe. The latches will hold the hose onto the connection pipe. Be sure you follow the color code on the wires to match the new hose wires to the connectors on the connection pipe. Push the wires back into the groves on the connection pipe. When everythings is sitting snugly against the connection pipe, you should be able to slip the hose connector cover back on the connection pipe and lock it over the two tabs.
