Overheated Motor
If your vacuum was working fine and then suddenly shut off, it may have overheated. Most vacuums are equipped with a thermal protector safety switch that won`t allow the motor to run when it becomes overheated. You will need to wait for 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on your machine, to try again.
If your vacuum cleaner keeps turning off, this could be due to the following reasons: Blockages – check the hose and head for any obstructions. Filter – always check your filters, if these are clogged this could be causing the vacuum cleaner to work harder and lose suction power.
Check service panel for tripped breakers/blown fuses. If breaker is tripped, reset it. If fuse is blown, replace it. If vacuum cleaner is plugged in, be sure power button is in the off position before resetting breaker/changing fuse.

Infinity Vaccum by Shark, model number NV31COS, will not start. The vacuum was running just fine until it grabbed the edge of a curtain. Turned it off to release the suction. I have a Kenmore Elegance Vacuum with Dirt Sensor, Model # 116.30750400C, Serial number M41901532. When vacuuming the carpet the power head will work for 3-6 mins then automatically shut off, power is still there and lights work but the power head motor turns off and the suction stops. I will turn it off and on, check the outlet, flick the on off buttons…nothing. I will turn it off for a couple minutes and it turns back on and runs like normal. ANSWER : It is an electrical problem in the handle, if you can or know somebody that has any fix it ability it can be fixed in about ten minutes. Oh, and Sears SUCKS!!

My vacuum just stopped working, so I don’t know what the problem is. I used it in the kitchen to vacuum the hard wood floor. I turned it off, and a few minutes later, turned it back on to finish vaccuuming the kitchen floor. It just would not turn on. I had not unplugged it or did anything to it. I then tried to see if it would work in another plug, and no luck. I’m trying to figure out if it can be fixed or if I need to look for a new vacuum.
ANSWER : When I get most Vacuums that have dies on people most of them the wire has been worn and cut one or more wires on the plug cord. Sometimes the cut can be over looked. Please unplug and check the wire carefully.

Now that I just fixed my Lux Legacy canister vacuum, I need help on my other Electrolux Regency Series upright! The vacuum works fine but the rotating brush does not work and the brush motor does not turn on. Tried cleaning the brush and hitting hte reset button to no avail. ANSWER : There are a couple rectangular holes on the bottom of the power nozzle, beside the wheels. These have tabs in them that need released with a standard screwdriver.

.Once this is done, you’ll need to unscrew the screw at each end of the brush. Lift the brush out and thoroughly clean it, including the ends.

Wertheim XL180 vacuum cleaner not working
The past month our XL180 would stop working after 20-40mins therefore we'd wait 1-2 hours to resume cleaning. Now it doesn't turn on at all. Would this mean its good for nothing? Tips on maintenance would be much appreciated, i consider myself a handyman always willing to give something a go.
ANSWER : Thanks for using FixYa and welcome to the site. Sorry you had to wait to long. First, try checking the cord. Try moving the cord in certain areas to see if the cord has a break in current. If it does, it will need replaced. You have probably already tried, but try it on another outlet to see if that is the issue. If they both check out, you may have blown a fuse. You will need to get to the fuse to check it. Reset any breaker(s) that is in the vacuum cleaner. Make sure you clean all contacts inside the vacuum cleaner. The connection may be bad. You need to get a voltage meter and test all wires inside for continuity. “If you find a section that is not getting current, replace that section.

I purchased a brand new Eureka Pet vacuum, sorry don’t know exact name but it the one that has the self cleaning duster on it. Last night I used the vacuum on my carpet, it was working fine until I accidently sucked up the corner of a scarf that was hanging off a couch. I shut the vacuum off, pulled out the scarf and and resumed vacuuming. Much to my dismay the suction on the vacuum had ceased. Can you tell me if there is a reset button on the vacuum? ANSWER : If the motor is running, there should be suction. Possible problems depend on whether it’s a canister or upright and are:
.A clog in the hose, UR or canister. Detach hose. Drop small coin in one end and lift hose causing it to roll out the other. If it does, no clog in hose. Drop same coin into hose opening on power head. If it rolls out, no clog in PN.
.Broken fan blades, UR. Needs to be taken to shop for repair/replacement.

I have a kenmore progressive direct drive handi mate jr. upright vacuum. My daughter used it last night to vacuum up some cat litter that had spilled on the floor. I went to use it today and it turned on for a second and then stopped working. I have hit the reset button but it will not turn on. Help this vacuum is only 2 years old Is there anything that I need to reset or do so that the vacuum will work again?
ANSWER : Its probably clogged up with cat litter.might have gotten into the motor.your motor has a motor guard inside if it. when it overheats it will shut down till it cools off.you need to clean all th cat liter out of it.and clean the filters.with a direct drive you might want to take it in to a repairman to sevice. its not a shop vac i advise you not to pick up things like cat liter

Eureka lightforce 300 poor suction, power paw doesn’t spin and self cleaning duster doesn’t clean its self when the button is depressed.
ANSWER : When this happens to me I do two things. The first is to empty the cannister but when you do (with the vacuum unplugged) stick your hand up inside of where the cannister goes.Sometimes that is filled with debris. Pull as much as you can out. There is another part inside there that you can twist and pull out – this will help you pull out more of the trapped debris. Replace that part and the cannister – usually there’s a blockage and just removing some of that debris will cause a bunch more to dump in to the cannister. You may have to repeat this process two or 3 times untill no more debris comes out when you turn the vacuum back on.
The second tip solution is to clean the filter which can be found on the front of the vacuum.There’s a clear plastic cover, a black rectangular this that hold the filter sponge and inside of that, the filter sponge. I just rinse the little sponge inside and shake off the thing that holds the sponge (Sorry, don’t know the technical terms). Put it back together and you should have suction – viola.
