Kenmore 34720 Upright Vacuum\015 My Kenmore Quick Clean is making a loud noise and will not pick any thing up. I have already cleaned out the hose, checked the wheel, checked the belt and cleaned out the filter. Why isn’t it picking anything up? I can deal with the noise.\015

How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :

Blockage – when a vacuum cleaner becomes unusually loud, it is normally because of a blockage of some sort. This is a problem that is easily solved by turning off the cleaner, check for blockages in the pipes, and remove them. You can also check and empty the canister to remove any possible blockages there as well.
What should I do? If your vacuum cleaner whistles, this is usually a sign that your device can`t suck in sufficient air. Often, it`s the dust container or bag that`s full. Check these first and exchange them if necessary.
There`s a reason your vacuum, car, potato chips, are way louder than they need to be. Surprisingly it`s done on purpose. Engineers and designers manipulate the auditory element of products. Some of the biggest culprits are vacuums and cars.
The maximum time one can safely be exposed to 100dB is for 15 minutes only. This means it is best to choose a vacuum cleaner with a noise output that is less than 70 dB. However, the noise levels of vacuum cleaners fall between 75dB to 85dB.
Living room music (76 dB); radio or TV-audio, vacuum cleaner (70 dB).
The average life expectancy of a mid-range vacuum cleaner is about six years. You can fix or replace things like blocked filters, jammed brush rolls, frayed hoses, worn-out stick vac batteries and broken accessories yourself.
The noise from Oxygen vacuum cleaner never reached above 75 dB in our test. Compared to the Dyson, which reached above 90 dB, the Electrolux Oxygen is without a doubt a more silent and better designed machine.
If you listen very carefully, sometimes you can hear a “hiss” sound that is the signal of a vacuum leak. However, the most common way to notice this is when the engine loses fuel efficiency. The reason for this is due to the fact that vehicle exhaust is delayed on exiting the combustion chamber.
Hissing or Sucking Noises

Usually, when the leak isn`t too bad, you will hear hissing noises coming from the engine. This may also sound like whining sounds or whimpering sounds. For more severe vacuum leaks, the noise is sucking or suction, much like a vacuum cleaner.

Vacuum noise is quantum noise related to the zero-point fluctuations of the electric field in the vacuum state. Such fluctuations exist even though the vacuum state has a photon number of zero. Figure 1: When a beam splitter is used to attenuate a beam, vacuum noise enters via the open port.
ProSilence bagless vacuum cleaners.

If you`re looking for a quiet bagless vacuum, our bagless ProSilence models are engineered for peace and quiet. They deliver powerful performance to thoroughly clean all floors, and emit low noise thanks to the built-in SilenceSound system.

Sound is measured in decibels (dB). A whisper is about 30 dB, normal conversation is about 60 dB, and a motorcycle engine running is about 95 dB. Noise above 70 dB over a prolonged period of time may start to damage your hearing. Loud noise above 120 dB can cause immediate harm to your ears.
Sounds between 170-200 dB are so intense that they can cause lethal issues like pulmonary embolisms, pulmonary contusions, or even burst lungs. As for exploding heads, you can expect that from sounds above 240 dB. However, such high intensity sounds are very rare.
10 dB: Normal breathing. 20 dB: Whispering from five feet away. 30 dB: Whispering nearby. 40 dB: Quiet library sounds.
70 decibels is as loud as a washing machine or a dishwasher. It is a moderate noise level. 70 dB noise is not considered harmful to human hearing. However, extended exposure to levels above 55-60 dB can be considered disturbing or become annoying.
Over time and extended use, a very fine layer of particles will start to line the inside of a vacuum bag, remaining in place even after the bag is emptied. This means that the bag will lose the proper airflow required to let the incoming air escape. As the airflow is restricted, the suction dies down too.
Vacuuming every day, or even a few times a day, is not going to create any long term problems. `But,` you might be thinking, `doesn`t the brushes spinning over the carpet on a beater bar wear it out? ` Sure, but a very small amount.
Sound does not travel at all in space. The vacuum of outer space has essentially zero air. Because sound is just vibrating air, space has no air to vibrate and therefore no sound. If you are sitting in a space ship and another space ship explodes, you would hear nothing.
The noise from a vacuum is made from a fan creating a vacuum aka suction. If you lower the noise you often times will lower the suction significantly. Some models of vacuums have the motor insulated to reduce noise but a truly silent vacuum would be a ineffective cleaner. How do you use a vacuum cleaner safely?
The Dyson Supersonic Hairdryer measures in at 79 decibels.
Ultimately, unlike bagged vacuum cleaners, the performance of Dyson machines won`t be compromised the more you vacuum. Our machines are engineered with six layers of advanced whole machine filtration, which means that we capture 99.97% of microns as small as 0.3 microns.
A rattling sound inside a pump may be caused by damaging cavitation, resulting from imploding internal gaseous bubbles due to restricted flow, improper pressure, or other issues. Likewise, water hammering, a single implosion of a large gaseous bubble or air pocket might sound like a loud bang.
If you are checking the oil in your vacuum pump and it appears frothy or milky, it could indicate that there is a leak in the system or that condensation has mixed in with the oil. In this instance, you should not only drain and change the oil, but you should also check your system for leaks.
Mounting an incorrect vacuum pump can cause severe and expensive engine damage.

Dyson DC14 is not picking up as it should and the hose hardly has any suction. I have checked for blockages and there are none. When i turn it on it sounds like there is good suction then there is a second noise like the suction is escaping somewhere.

My upright kenmore progressive vacuum will not suction up when using the sweeper. It will suction things when I use one of the tools. I have put in a new bag and have tried to see if anything is blocking the bottom. It sometimes makes a very loud noise when I try to vacuum. If I press the intell clean on and off yellow button the noise may go away but it still does not work.
ANSWER : Double check hose placement, making sure you have the hose inserted into the correct slot. The long attachment nozzle stores in the front hole on the right, and the sucking hose inserts into the rear hole on the right. I know this is too simple of a solution, but worth double checking. Our cleaning service claimed our Progressive upright had quit sucking when vacuuming, and that was the problem. They had used the attachments and then reinserted the hose into the attachment hole. It also caused the vacuum to be very loud as the main sucking hole was open. Hope it’s an easy fix and not something serious.

No suction I am getting no suction on my central vac at the vac. I do not believe that the piping is plugged up, the vacuum is not creating suction. What are the causes of no suction at the vacuum and how do I take the top half of the Nutone central vac off?
ANSWER : Use the guide at builtinvacuum.com/flowchrt.html to find the issue and solution. Most likely you need to test it without any filter and be sure the bottom of the unit is attached 🙂 To get access to the motors you need to unbolt the very top sides.

My Dyson DC14 Animal doesn’t have the suction it used to. The piece in the back on the bottom – a flap it appears – stays open now, causing the machine to make a louder noise than usual. At first, if I put my hand on the flap opening it would close, allowing for normal suction. Now, it stays “open” permanently”, causing the loss of suction.

Lost suction my DCO7 lost suction in the hose I started taking it apart and cleaning it and looking for clogs (probably more than I should have) and when I put it back together it has awesome suction in the hose but no suction in the base. It just pulls the pine needles up (christmas tree) but they never appear in the “bag” compartment and when I look they are just all gathered in a clump in the bottom by the brush.

Poor Suction Heya! So I just picked up a used Dyson, but when I vacuum with it, the suction is pretty weak and it spits all kinds of stuff out the back and into my feet. When I pull the hose I have good suction, but in regular mode it hardly picks up anything. The brushes are spinning, and it eventually will clean an area if I go over it again and again. Maybe a clog somewhere? Please tell me that Dysons have better suction than my $50 Dirt Devil! Thanks!
ANSWER : I recently bought a second hand Dyson DC07. Its suction was poor. I removed all the un-clipable pipe bits and to remove any blockage but it all looked clear. The Final Sponge and hepper filter did have a lot of dust in it and the rotating brush was full of hair but nothing bad.
.
.I eventual gave in to curiosity and removed the three screws in the top or the yellow removable dust collection tube and cyclone bit to see what was in there. The mechanism to release the flap at the bottom of the collection tube does not allow you to remove the lid completely but it does open far enough to get inside. I found the whole top section of the yellow plastic bit blocked by a big plug of compacted dust and a champagne cork. If you are willing to take the risk and have a torx 15 screwdriver handy it that part may be blocked. It did get a bit messy.
.
.If I was going to attempt the same procedure I’d remove the dust collection unit from the vacuum cleaner as I did before, but leave the clear tube attached and the emptying flap firmly closed to reduce the mess from the dust falling out the bottom while cleaning the top part.

Suction Cover The suction cover of my Eureka Deep Steam 2575A is broken – the tabs snapped off of the cover so I am unable to screw the suction cover back on. I need to purchase a new suction cover but can’t find one anywhere. Anyone know what I can do? thanks

Hi my vacuum (Russell Hobss 2200 bagless HEPA) seems to have just enough ( not loads) of suction til it reaches the cleaning head. the head does not appear to be blocked – but there is then almost no suction at all.
It also makes loads of noise when on- and an even louder noise when turning off.
is it fixable or is it dead?
Thanks

.
.I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.
.Well there seems to be maybe a few problems, the head may be clear, but the hoses could be clogged and or the HEPA filter could be clogged as well – if the hoses and wands are clear and the filter clean you may look @ a motor replacement depending on the cost or to buy a new vacuum and in some instances you can trade in your old vacuum for a new one – but check it fist from the suction head thru the hoses, wands and filters, B4 you decide to purchase a new one or to replace the old motor with a new one depending on cost. A rule to live by – the item cost more to repair that to replace – replace the item, if the repair cost (as an example) say $50.00 to $60.00 and to buy a new one would cost $100.00 – buy a new one.
