Dyson DC15 Animal Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum\015 Loud noise when pulling the unit backwards from the brush roller area\015

How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :

First thing to try is empty your bin and make sure there are no blockages, if that doesn`t solve it then remove the brushbar and then try switching your Dyson back on again. If the noise is normal again then it is your brushbar or possibly clutch if applicable.
The noise from Oxygen vacuum cleaner never reached above 75 dB in our test. Compared to the Dyson, which reached above 90 dB, the Electrolux Oxygen is without a doubt a more silent and better designed machine.
A high pitch whistle could indicate a seal is damaged or the machine is blocked. If the noise occurs without the Wand and Cleaner head, it is likely to be caused by either the bin or cyclone.
Typically, when a Dyson doesn`t pick up and has no suction, it is blocked. Dysons make a loud hissing sound when there is a blockage in the system somewhere. The DC50 is the same in this regard. Dyson publish a simple guide that covers checking your filter, checking the wand isn`t blocked, etc.
Worn out bearings on the brush roll will make a vacuum much noisier. This is a good time to check them after cleaning and inspecting the brush roll. Try spinning each bearing by hand. Some brush rolls have only one bearing on the roll, and the other bearing is in the head where the roll is mounted.
If they look worn out and the bristles look loose it`s time to change your brush roller.
The sound level at minimum flow rate is quieter than 35dB the sound level at maximum flow rate is 59 dB.
The Dyson V15 generates 71 to 76 decibels of noise, depending on the mode.
A Dyson vacuum cleaner has a lifespan of around 10 years. This is considerably longer than most other vacuums.
While Dyson has claimed that the Supersonic hair dryer is quieter than the competition (keep in mind that “supersonic” means “greater than the speed of sound”), both our Lab tests and consumer tests found that the hair dryer is about as noisy as other hair dryers.
On average a brushroll should be replaced every year or two. If you`re not sure if the vacuum is working as good as it could or should be, replacing the brushroll can be an easy fix .
Some users can get away with very occasional brush cleanings, but once a month is safest for most – particularly if tangled hair is a regular issue for your vacuum brush roll. The more often you clean your brush roll, the easier it will be each time.
If your brush is scratching your floor, or not cleaning as well as it used to, then you may want to replace your brush bar.
Sound is measured in decibels (dB). A whisper is about 30 dB, normal conversation is about 60 dB, and a motorcycle engine running is about 95 dB. Noise above 70 dB over a prolonged period of time may start to damage your hearing.
Vacuum cleaners with a noise level between 71 and 75dB are loud. If you want to have a conversation with someone 2m away, you`ll have to raise your voice significantly. You also won`t be able to hear the TV without turning up the volume. We consider more than 76dB of noise very loud.
Instead, Dyson says Auto/Med mode is best for general cleaning. At around 73 decibels, this is considered to be around the standard for a vacuum cleaner.
The Dyson 10″ fan produces 50 decibels which is slightly more than a similar sized desk fan that moves 25 times the volume of air.
What is the difference between the Dyson V15 Detect and the Absolute? They`re very similar, but the main difference is the Absolute uses a clever laser to show you tiny particles you wouldn`t normally be able to see.
The V15 Detect+ model includes all of the previously mentioned accessories, plus a low-reach adapter to help you clean under furniture. It also comes with a multi-purpose combi-crevice tool, instead of the standard crevice tool you get with the V15 Detect.
The main difference between the Dyson V8 Animal and V8 Absolute is that the V8 Animal is designed to powerfully suck up and eliminate pet hairs.
Give it a break

By letting the battery run down to empty at least once a month, you`ll help to prolong its life.

The Dyson V6 is designed so that you can store the unit on the charger. Storing the Dyson on the charger will not harm the battery and it is not necessary to use the unit until the battery is depleted.
Clean the Fan

Your ceiling fan could be off-balance because of dirt buildup on the blades. Cleaning the ceiling fan can help correct this situation. A duster might help remove some of the dust, but you likely need a damp cleaning cloth to remove the stuck-on grime from each blade.

I was vacuuming my room and all of a sudden I hear this loud noise, then notice the roller brush isn’t spinning. Thinking too much hair was caught I separated it from the rod and hose to clean it out, but noticed that the roller brush didn’t move at all while I was cleaning it. I’ve cleaned the brush before and it would roll around with little effort, but this time I couldn’t move it at all. After removing hair and string I put the vacuum back together and started it up, but the noise continued,
ANSWER : It sounds like if the rod is clean then there is debree inside the roller where the rod fits in too.

I replaced the belt on my Dirt Devil Featherlite Bagless Vacuum and the brush roller rubs and makes a very loud noise when turned on. I have gone exactly by the manual instructions and made sure the belt and end caps were on correctly, but the bristles still rub the back and it makes a very loud noise. Without the brush roller in the vacuum, it sounds and runs normal. What could the problem be?

.Hello,
.I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.
.The Royal Dirt Devil Featherlite Bagless Vacuum has just bushings in the ends of the brushroll and not bearings and once the bushings are bad I suggest that you replace the brushroll in the vacuum and put a new belt on the vacuum as well. There is no way to repair the bushing s in order to it to work properly. The suggested belt change is every 4 to 6 months and to store the extra belts in a Ziploc bag in the refrigerator to keep them fresh. Suggest looking at a local vac dealer. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

My model F5906-900 — problem is the brushes have stoped working… I pulled the brush assembly out by holding the two tabs, and all seems clean and the brush assembly rotates easly… onced the brush assembly is removed. What I did notice is the female driver slot (found in the main assembly unit) that drives the brushes seems stuck..Is that normal when the machine is not hooked up to power? How can I get the brushed going??? it is a good machine, but the brush options is important too it’s ab
ANSWER : (1) Assure the Brush Control on the hood is NOT set to the OFF position.
.(2) Remove the brush assembly by pulling/unlatching it from base on each side.
.(3) Does one of the brushes have the drive pin present? It should be about ¼ inch square, and two inches long. It attaches the brushes to the drive mechanism.
.(4) Remove and clean the intake filter. One the base of the cleaner, behind the brushes, squeeze the two red abs together and pull the panel down to access the screen. Clean the hair/debris off the screen and reassemble.

My Dyson Animal has good suction and works fine for actually picking up dirt, but when I use the vacuum with the roller, I hear a grinding/rumbling noise. Its only when I use the vacuum with the brush rotating. It does not happen hen I shut the roller brush off. The belt is fine. I cannot figure out what is wrong as there are no clogs, debris, or foreign objects stuck in the brush or in the belt. The noise seems to be the only issue. The vacuum picks up fine. It just doesn’t sound right a
ANSWER : Trace the path of the suction into the tank and see if there is anything loose or ingested..Also, remove the brush and clean as best you can. Perhaps there is something caught in it. Lubricate where it makes sense with some WD40.

When I vacuum w/ the brush control in the on position it make a really loud noise, almost like a grinding sound. I have looked at it and nothing seems to be wrong, but I notice that the pin that engages the belt seems to vibrate a bit, possibly creating the noise. It started when I accidentally got part of a plastic grocery bag caught in the brush. Could it have stretched a belt? Nothing is caught any other place and it only makes the noise when the brush in in the on position.
ANSWER : Yes, the belt could have been stretched and is now vibrating and hitting other parts and creating a noise if much of the bag got caught under the belt. If you have another belt for this vacuum, please put it on and see if the noise stops. If it does, then problem solved, if not let me know and we can try something else and you can send a picture or video to me of the problem.

My Hoover Windtunnel Mach 6.9 brush roller quit working. Upon investigating I found that the idler arm pulley was broken so I managed to replace that. Before putting the cover back on I see the control knob for the roller brush moves a plastic piece left or right to activate/deactivate the brush roller. I don't know where this plastic piece connects. It appears to me that the idler are when raised creates tension on the belt which drives the roller. I'm at a loss trying to figure ou
