Reliable protection against overheating

A temperature limiter protects all Miele stick vacuum cleaners from overheating. Should the air passage become blocked – for instance by vacuuming up bulky particles – the motor will automatically shut off for safety`s sake.

The brush roll or its bearings may be clogged with hair, threads or dirt. Make sure they are clean and the roll spins. The belt may also have slipped because it was loose. Check the fit of the new belt when it is installed.
To do this, turn on the vacuum and press the reset button. The service indicator light will turn off and then be reset to its original position. This will only work if the indicator light has already come on, not if the reset button has been pushed between filter changes.
If your vacuum cleaner keeps turning off, this could be due to the following reasons: Blockages – check the hose and head for any obstructions. Filter – always check your filters, if these are clogged this could be causing the vacuum cleaner to work harder and lose suction power.
A damaged vacuum hose, clogged motor air filter or bad suction motor can cause the vacuum cleaner to shut off during use. A tripped overload on the vacuum suction motor can shut off the vacuum cleaner during use. If your vacuum has a reset button, push it; if the vacuum seems hot, let it cool off first.
Check for a plugged hose:

Plugged vacuum hoses are sometimes the reason for a loss in suction. Hoses can get clogged with hair, dust bunnies, string, or anything else that can`t pass through the other end of the hose. Airways inside the machine should be looked at as well. Wherever there is an air passage, check it.

Durability & Warranty – If you`re looking for a vacuum cleaner with durability and longevity, look no further than Miele. Miele vacuum cleaners are designed and tested to last for 20 years. Miele vacuum cleaners come with a 7-year warranty on the motor and a 1-year warranty on parts and labor.
Check the Rotator Brush and Wheels

Sometimes pieces of string or other objects get wrapped around your vacuum`s rotating brush or around the wheels of the vacuum. Unplug your vacuum. Turn it over and have a look at the wheels and brush. If you see any pieces of string or objects lodged there, remove them.

Low suction or poor pick-up may be due to a clog in the vacuum cleaner. If you notice a change in the sound of the motor or a reduction in the spinning action, check for clogs. First, remove the Easy Empty dirt tank from the vacuum and discard all dirt and debris.
If all you hear from the vacuum unit is a click at the when you try to start the vacuum motor from inside the house, then the motor in the unit is dead and has to be replaced. A strong odor from the shellac, which coats the copper coil windings, is an indicator that the motor is about to or has burnt out.
Problems can occur when overused or clogged filters cause the vacuum motor to overheat. This not only shortens the motor life but causes a loss of suction. In some cases, total motor burn out can occur.
The most common problems found in vacuum cleaners are low suction force, excessive noise, burning smell, vacuum not turn on, and overheating. These issues can be fixed by either cleaning the device or replacing some parts of the device. At times, it is best to seek a professional to fix the cleaner effectively.
Overheated Motor

If your vacuum was working fine and then suddenly shut off, it may have overheated. Most vacuums are equipped with a thermal protector safety switch that won`t allow the motor to run when it becomes overheated. You will need to wait for 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on your machine, to try again.

Hello, I have a problem with my Eureka Powerline bagged upright vacuum. It has a 12 amp motor and is model #4352, Type D. It was probably bought new in 1998. My problem is, while vacuuming today the motor seemed to slow down all of the sudden and then began smelling like burning rubber. I shut the vacuum off to check for blockages but could not find anything blocked. When I then turned it on again it runs but seems to only be running at 1/2 the motor speed and still has the rubber buring smell.
ANSWER : It sounds like a rubber sealing in the motor has come loose and is being constantly rubbed against the walls of the motor with would cause the smell and loss of motor speed caused by the fricton of rubber against the rod so if you can get to the motor try to open it and see if you can get it if not take it to a small engine repair service hope this was helpful:)

Miele Cat & Dog vacuum gets VERY hot and is VERY loud. Hose has no restrictions and I have changed the dust compartment (motor) filter and the exhaust filter. It still gets hot when I run it with the top open and all filters removed, so I’m guessing the problem is with the motor. Should I be going into the motor compartment? If so, what am I looking for?
ANSWER : Hi
.
.The fact that it gets very hot could be due to a number of issues.,but the fact that it started making a very loud noise at the same time suggests that there might be more problems maybe brushes etc.
.
.If you could describe the sound it makes like a squeeling or electrical buzzing I know this might be difficult ,but it would help in the diagnosis.
.
.I will try to get more information on the unit ,meanwhile here is the user manual pdf if you don’t have it: http://www.miele.co.uk/Resources/OperatingInstructions/S%205001%20series%20S%205211_5781.pdf

Bissell PowerForce Turbo: The motor spindle becomes very hot while spinning, causing the new belt to burn and break. Is this because the motor is overheating?
ANSWER : Something is preventing the brush roller from turning even though it seeems to be OK when not in contact with the floor. The motor shaft is spinning on one spot of the belt, causing the heating, the smell, and eventual belt failure. I have had brush rollers that appeared OK but proved to have pet hair jammed between the end caps and the roller itself causing rotation to be very difficult

The motor running the beater bar on ny Electrolux canister vacuum cleaner runs intermittently. It runs about 2 minutes and then cuts off and automatically starts again after a 1 to 2 minute interval. I have tried taking it apart and removing the dust and grit in the beater bar attachment but with no change in operation. What would you suggest?
ANSWER : Check all the wiring connections to make sure they’re tight.
.1/2. Wiring to power nozzle motor or reset switch is loose.
.1. Cord from power nozzle to upper wand. If the plastic portion of the wand is cracked near the cord connection, or the connections are blackened, they need replaced.
.2. Wiring connection from hose handle to upper wand. Check for cracks and discoloration as in 1 above. Replace if necessary.
.3. Hose connection to vacuum. Not likely, but possible.
.4. There could very well be a break in the hose wiring.
.You may need to take your vacuum, with hose and power nozzle, to an authorized Aerus Electrux service shop. They can try a new hoze to see if that’s the problem. If there is a break in the wiring, the hose is probably worn in other areas as well, and should be replaced.
