How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :

If the grease or active charcoal filter of your ventilation hood(s) is saturated, the red LED indicator will light up. Your filter should then be cleaned or replaced as soon as possible.
What should I do? If your vacuum cleaner whistles, this is usually a sign that your device can`t suck in sufficient air. Often, it`s the dust container or bag that`s full. Check these first and exchange them if necessary.
Service Indicator with Reset Button

To do this, turn on the vacuum and press the reset button. The service indicator light will turn off and then be reset to its original position. This will only work if the indicator light has already come on, not if the reset button has been pushed between filter changes.

Reliable protection against overheating

A temperature limiter protects all Miele stick vacuum cleaners from overheating. Should the air passage become blocked – for instance by vacuuming up bulky particles – the motor will automatically shut off for safety`s sake.

Durability & Warranty – If you`re looking for a vacuum cleaner with durability and longevity, look no further than Miele. Miele vacuum cleaners are designed and tested to last for 20 years. Miele vacuum cleaners come with a 7-year warranty on the motor and a 1-year warranty on parts and labor.
On top of your vacuum`s bag door, there should be a small window with an indicator light. When the Miele vacuum bag full indicator turns red, you`ll know it`s time to change the bag.
If you listen very carefully, sometimes you can hear a “hiss” sound that is the signal of a vacuum leak. However, the most common way to notice this is when the engine loses fuel efficiency. The reason for this is due to the fact that vehicle exhaust is delayed on exiting the combustion chamber.
Low suction or poor pick-up may be due to a clog in the vacuum cleaner. If you notice a change in the sound of the motor or a reduction in the spinning action, check for clogs. First, remove the Easy Empty dirt tank from the vacuum and discard all dirt and debris.
For a cordless miele stick vacuum cleaner, a temperature limiter switch automatically turns off the vacuum cleaner if it gets too hot. (Some models have a temperature warning light.) Overheating may be caused by a blockage in the vacuum, or due to a full dustbag and/or filters.
A damaged vacuum hose, clogged motor air filter or bad suction motor can cause the vacuum cleaner to shut off during use. A tripped overload on the vacuum suction motor can shut off the vacuum cleaner during use. If your vacuum has a reset button, push it; if the vacuum seems hot, let it cool off first.
What should I do? If your vacuum cleaner whistles, this is usually a sign that your device can`t suck in sufficient air. Often, it`s the dust container or bag that`s full. Check these first and exchange them if necessary.

Miele vacuum filters have to be replaced, Jonathan says. If your vacuum has a High-Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA filter), you`ll know it`s time to replace it when the indication strip turns red. According to Miele owner manuals, this equates to about once a year.

As the owner`s manual explains, a solid red light means it`s a problem with the blower motor. A steady blinking red light means there`s a problem with the accessory attached to the Rainbow. More details can be obtained from the unit, as well as the Rexair service diagnostic app.

I have a Casa Blanca Intelitouch ceiling fan.
Panama5
12004T model no.??
serial no.: AU16550
A casa blanca tri-switch on the wall: lights-fan-power

When I turn it on, the lights and fan work fine.
After a period of time, the lights go off by themselves.
I don’t remember the fan ever going off by itself, only the lights.

ANSWER : The light are going off only because after a period of time the circuit lets off the trigger on the switching thyristor. So the fault is within the control box of the unit which must be taken out to confirm.
.Now attempt to do the job only if your are competent with high voltage circuits as the circuit must be checked before and after the lights switch off.
.It is also possible that the switching device the thyristor may be on dry soldering joint. So with the mains power off( or the power disconnected to the unit) have yourself insulated , use a soldering iron to touch up all the joints.
.Failure of capacitors in the trigger circuit is also possible to have this delay off.
.Trace the trigger voltage cut off at this point to come to the solution.( use a multimeter)

Stopped working – warning light on
ANSWER : Dear Lauren, can you please tell me where to buy these Miele parts? I have a Flamenco ii (red one). I was told by one repair shop owner that mine has the american made version of the motor (as opposed to the german made one). The diagnosis is that the Miele’s motor control circuit board #04416342 is gone bad. But I was quoted $125 for this part. Seems quite expensive to me. Any idea where I can get them cheaper?
Thanks!

I have a Roomba 560 (it’s still in warranty !!) and, after my summer vacation, it has a problem.
When I’m charging Roomba, the orange light blinks (and this is normal!) but this orange blinking continues forever…. the light doesn’t change to green.
If I detach Roomba from the charger, the light become green and it works normally until the light changes to red and I have to charge it again.

WHY, DURING THE CHARGING PHASE, THE LIGHT DOESN’T CHANGE FROM ORANGE-BLINKING TO GREEN?

HAVE I

ANSWER : The problem is not with the charger itself but it is with the battery inside the Roomba. It sunds like one or more of the cells has gone bad so its not holding the same charge as it did. I would recomend sending it in while the warranty is still valid so they will replace it. Your charger and the Roomba itself should be fine.

A few tips to keep the battery working longer:
Only charge the battery when it is drained all the way to zero. It will help keep the battery active.

Only charge the battery until it is full and then disconect it from the power source. It will keep it active longer plus it will help keep your electric bill down.

I am in ecuador and have had a local “plumber” install a lpg tankless water heater for me. After more difficulty than there should have been it’s up on the wall with the water and gas lines attached but it won’t light. There are 2 “c” batteries installed that seem to be the ignition system but when i turn on the gas and try to ignite the system nothing happens. No lights no sound no gas smell no hot water. Thoughts?
ANSWER : The system is ignited by turning on a hot water faucet causing water to flow through the unit activating the igniter. You could disconnect the gas line at the unit turn the valve on and off real quick and smell for gas.If there is air in the line you may have to let it run or purge the line just long enough to make sure gas and not air is comming out.You might want to have utility company do this if you have any worries .I would make sure it is set up for lpg and not natural gas. And then and this is quite often the problem the gas line feeding the unit should be at least 3/4 inch pipe and fairly close to the main supply and in no instance the last fixture in system unless the pipe sizing is adequate for the amount of gas the unit needs to run.If sizing is the problem sometimes rather than running new pipes your utility company might be able to adjust the pressure comming out of the tank to make up for it. Hope this helps good luck

Hooked everything up per directions. I plugged it in to the closest electrical outlet and nothing happened. The lights did not light up, the connected wall control and sensors leds do not light up. It appears the unit doesn’t have power. The electrical outlet socket is fine as everything else I plug into it works fine. I have tried every other electrical outlet available. The unit won’t power on from any outlet, and all of those outlets run other things, like power tools an refrigerators
ANSWER : Dear Davehibshman,

Firstly; dismantle the plug and replace the fuse with the same rating as the one you have just taken out. Replace the plug cover, put the plug into the socket and try again. If this doesnt work, there may be a problem with the internal fuse (if one is fitted). Two choices here, either refer this unit to a qualified service personnel/ the place where you got it from, or do the job yourself (which will save you a whole bunch of cash). In your circumstances, I would take it back to the place you got it and ask them to put the fault right, or replace the unit completely; if it is past its warranty or guarantee time, then get back to me with a make and model number of the unit, and I will give you step-by-step instructions on how to solve this.

Yours sincerely

Oz
