Dyson DC21 All Floors Stowaway HEPA Bagless Canister Vacuum – Iron/Titanium/Yellow\015 I have a Dyson 21 for the past three years and loved it until recently. The motorhead keeps shutting off. So I cleaned the filer, let it dry the 12 hours, and even bought a new motor head for $150. I tested it today and it still keeps shutting off. I checked the hose for obstructions (which there were none), made sure everything was cleaned and NOW I am at a loss. What else can I do?????\015

How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :

If your Dyson vacuum`s suction motor isn`t working, first check that the machine receives power from the wall socket or its battery pack. If the motor still doesn`t work, it`s likely an airflow problem. Blockages will cause the vacuum to overheat, so the suction motor stops or pulsates to protect itself from damage.
The Dyson V8 Motorhead vacuum has a motorized cleaner head to remove dirt from carpets.
The simplest place to start: empty your dirt container. Debris in the main cyclone passage will cut suction rapidly. If the container was really full, you should also check the filters because they can get loaded with dust if the Dirt container is too full. Test the vacuum, and see if the suction is back.
I can assure you that air coming out of the Ball is a normal feature of the machine, as this is where HEPA-filtered air is returned to the room. The exhaust air will often feel warm as it will have passed through the motor.
One of the first things to do when your Dyson vacuum cleaner keeps starting and stopping is to empty the bin. It may be full, or the machine may simply perceive it as too full to continue working. Dyson vacuum cleaners require constant airflow through them to work, and a full bin can stop this from happening.
You may visit a Dyson Service Center to have your Dyson machine serviced and/or repaired. If you are unable to visit a Dyson Service Center, you may ship your Dyson machine to Dyson for service and/or repair.
Since the battery provides the suction and spins the motor, the same battery used by the original v6 dies more quickly when powering the Motorhead. The v6 lasts 26 minutes on normal, and 6 minutes in boost mode. Dyson claims the Motorhead lasts 24 and 6 minutes.
If there is a strong burning smell coming from the motor area of your Dyson DC14 or DC07 then it is most likely that your motor has burnt out.
A Dyson vacuum cleaner has a lifespan of around 10 years. This is considerably longer than most other vacuums. So, if you`re looking for a high-quality vacuum cleaner that will last you for a long time, a Dyson could be a good choice. However, remember that Dyson vacuums are expensive.
Sometimes your vacuum pulsates on and off or keeps dying when using the extra powerful `Max Mode`, which can be related to the charge of your battery. Try turning this function off by pressing the Max button on your vacuum.
Why is the vacuum is blowing dusty air out of the back? Simple: the bag or canister is full and the vacuum has nowhere to store the dust it is collecting. Empty the canister or bag. If that doesn`t fix it, the vacuum filter needs to be cleaned or changed.
In many cases, you probably can repair a Dyson yourself, especially when it comes to common issues (see below). However, even if your machine needs some extra TLC by a Dyson expert, it can be worth getting it repaired.
Press and hold the power button on the machine and the remote together for 10 seconds. The LED screen will count down from 10. Once this count down has been completed, the machine will have been reset.
The cleaner head housing is not washable and should only be wiped over with a damp lint-free cloth. To maintain optimum performance, check and wash your brush bar regularly. Make sure your machine is disconnected from the charger and take care not to touch the trigger.
The difference between the Dyson V7 Motorhead and Dyson V8 Absolute motorheads (the V8 Absolute comes with a soft roller head and a traditional motorhead). On MAX power, the V8 has 115W of power while the V7 only has 100W.
The Dyson V6 is designed so that you can store the unit on the charger. Storing the Dyson on the charger will not harm the battery and it is not necessary to use the unit until the battery is depleted.
Summary. Dyson batteries should last around 2-6 years before needing to be replaced. This wide range reflects the fact that how you care for and maintain the battery will affect how long it lasts. If you want your vacuum`s battery to last longer, make sure it`s stored at room temperature.
Can I use the machine with the voltage converter? Hi there! The quick easy answer is no, you cannot use your Dyson Airwrap abroad, or in another country that doesn`t have the same electrical voltage that we have here in the US, 110/120V.
If all you hear from the vacuum unit is a click at the when you try to start the vacuum motor from inside the house, then the motor in the unit is dead and has to be replaced. A strong odor from the shellac, which coats the copper coil windings, is an indicator that the motor is about to or has burnt out.
As the cleaner head and filter fills with dirt and debris over time, all the built-up debris begins to emit a burnt-smelling odour. You may need to remove and clean out the vacuum`s filter. We need to advise you to stop using your machine and request that you contact your local customer support team.
check for leaks or kinks in the tubing. ensure the filter is not wet (keep a backup filter with your supplies) ensure the float shut-off is not activated (if this is part of your suction machine) check for canister leaks and cracks.
The most common problem with a vacuum cleaner is also the easiest to remedy: clogs in the hose or attachments. Also the electrical cord, motor, switch, fan, brushes, and motor bearings can all need repair or replacement.
5,126. That`s how many failures James Dyson went through before finding the winning prototype for his first vacuum cleaner. Five thousand — one hundred — twenty-six! That meant four years of developing the product, going deep into debt and putting up his house as collateral to the bank loan.

My dyson seems to have lost its suction therefore is not picking up anything yet i have found that when my dyson is standing upright it has a little more suction but nothing like how it use to work. This has only happend in the last 2 weeks. This is embarassing, but I have just looked at the Dyson DC07 manual and at my Dyson for about 20 minutes, and I can’t for the life of me find the wand release button on my actual Dyson…..the manual pictures don’t look like the parts on my Dyson….I don’t have a hose with a wand release button….the hose just goes straight up inside the handle….Can someone help me? Thanks 🙂
ANSWER : Hi the wand release button is located directly above the the Cylinder release button. The wand release button looks like the picture below. In order to releease the wand you must firstly make sure the Electrical cable is not wrapped up for storage. So unwrap the electrical cable. then find the item as in the picture. Press this button in and at the same time lift the wand. This will realease the wand from the spine of the Dyson. dumfriesdon.jpg

Dyson animal won’t start. Never had any problem with this vacuum. No apparent problem. No electrical problem with house or outlet.

If there are some common things I could check/fix, things that might go wrong, I would like to check them out and get this machine going again.

ANSWER : Hi there, if the machine was running and cut out in use, this could be due to the motor overheating. The cause of this would be a blockage or a dirty filter. These checks can be found in the Support section on our website at www.dyson.com.

However if the machine was not being used and will simply not switch on, then we would recommend contacting our Helpline on 0800 298 0298.

Kind regards

I need to replace the brushbaron my DC17 Animal model Dyson. It’s almost four years old. I can’t find the correct part number on the Dyson Website and I can’t seem to find a Dyson repair center in Albuquerque, NM.

What are my alternatives? If I can’t service this machine without returning it to Dyson, I won’t ever buy another one.

ANSWER : Hi,
.
.The original Dyson part number for the brush bar (often called brush roll) is: 911961-01
.
.If you type the above part number into Google Products (click link below) you will get a list of suppliers at varying prices. A genuine Dyson part will cost about $20-25. There are some cheaper replacements available but you may need a different belt to use these, so I suggest you buy an original. Make sure the supplier states the part is Original / Genuine Dyson or OEM.
