How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?
Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :
A possible cause might be that the tank is not properly seated. To assure the tank is seated properly, pick it up and re-seat is so it sits snugly on the unit. If this doesn`t fix the problem, make sure the tank is assembled properly. To make sure they are both latched properly, pick the tank up by its handle.
Check to see if your clean water tank is empty. The clean water tank also may not be seated properly. The brush window could also not be latched into place. Turn off your machine and check to see if the brush window is secure.
Check the suction inlet on the body of the vacuum and clear it of debris if needed. Remove the hose from the base of the machine and remove any debris as needed. If necessary, you may use a broom handle to unclog the hose by pushing through both openings.
In Line Filter Assembly (includes Cap & Filter) for ProHeat 2X Upright Carpet Cleaners (equipped with In Line Filters) and Lift-Off Upright Carpet Cleaners. Fits in the top portion of the foot of the Carpet Cleaner, under where the Dirty Water Tank sits on the foot.
Remove the hose wand from the base, and check for a clog in the wand or base. Next, use a long, narrow object such as the crevice tool or a broomstick to clear away obstructions along the length of the hose.
Locate the brush reset button on the lower back right of the vacuum. Press the button to reset the brushroll To ensure the brush has been reset, plug the vacuum back into the electrical outlet.
Check the dirty water tank and make sure there are no clogs in the hose below it. Remove the filter and clean debris from both the screen and filter. Also empty the dirty water tank and leave the filter out to dry completely before replacing it.

My Bissell 25A3 ProHeat wont spray water – Bissell 1698 PowerSteamer ProHeat Upright Wet/Dry Vacuum
ANSWER : I had two problems. No water was coming out of the main unit (it was working fine via the powerbrush) and the flow indicator wasn’t spinning. Because I’m out of warranty, I did two things (after trying all the options that were posted).
.1. Removed the top of the main unit. There are 4 screws on the top back lid. Once you remove those, lift the back up towards the front. The front is snapped under the bottom casing. It should come up with a little pressure, but don’t force it. With the top lid removed, I had to clean several of the rubber hosing by removing them and running under warm water. I actually used a long wooden skewer to scrape the grime in the tube. Make sure you do one tube at a time and replace in as it was before moving to the next one. While you are at it, make sure the 2 sprayers on the front are clean as well. They are either orange or yellow and rubber tubes also feed into the sprayers. After I finished, I replaced the lid. It it still wasn’t working, so I tried step 2.
.
.2. Remove the hose assembly from the main handle. 2 screws and 2 bolds (don’t lose the nuts from the back). Once the hose assembly has been removed, then lift off the top part of the handle. Once the top is off you should be able to open the front lower part of the handle exposing the additional electrical and more rubber tubbing. In the middle is rectangular looking object. That is the water heater. If you just ran the vacuum, do NOT touch this as it will be hot. Wait for it to cool. check the connections of the rubber tubing and make sure they are clean. In my case the tube going in to the heater was all blocked up with cleaner solution. Once I cleaned that up an reassembled in reverse order, the unit worked fine.
.Hope that helps you.

I have a bissell quickwash 1950-e. I bought it Jan. 2006, and have only used it 8-10 times, I live in a very hard water area, so I though if I put some vinegar in with the cleaning solution it would get rid of any hard water deposits, unfortunatly the solution went lumpy in the tank and stoped spraying out water, I have opened it, hose clean, sprayer not blocked, x at bottom of water container when depresed water trickles out, component that opens the x when water container placed, also ran wate
ANSWER : Hard to say what is causing your problem, replacing the cap and insert on the water tank may help, part #2041111, even tho it may trickle out water when depressed, they can still be bad. The other thing would be the rod not relesing the water like it should. The big draw back to this model is Bissell has obsoleted all of its parts and most are no longer available. Might be wiser to buy new.
