How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

It`s possible there`s a power consumption issue, with there just not being enough residual charge to run the machine. A new battery should fix this. My other thought is that it`s overheating. If too much power is pushed through the motor, which MAX power does, it could stop after a few seconds if it become hot.
One of the first things to do when your Dyson vacuum cleaner keeps starting and stopping is to empty the bin. It may be full, or the machine may simply perceive it as too full to continue working. Dyson vacuum cleaners require constant airflow through them to work, and a full bin can stop this from happening.
If the vacuum is not plugged into its power outlet correctly, it will not turn on. Check to make sure that the vacuum`s electrical cord is completely plugged into the outlet. Additionally, the power outlet could be a problem.
If your vacuum cleaner keeps turning off, this could be due to the following reasons: Blockages – check the hose and head for any obstructions. Filter – always check your filters, if these are clogged this could be causing the vacuum cleaner to work harder and lose suction power.
Hot environments speed up battery aging. So it`s best to avoid cleaning the car in hot weather or leaving your vacuum in rooms that experience direct sunlight for prolonged periods. The same goes for cold porches and garages in winter.
To reset the Brush bar press the Brush bar control button twice or switch the machine off and back on.
“The machine is designed to pulsate. This is an audible feature that indicates a restriction of airflow and prevents damage to the motor. This is usually caused by a blockage within the machine or a clogged filter. When the machine is pulsating, it will switch on and off in quick succession.
Check the LED light to determine the battery level. A solid blue light indicates that the machine is in normal operating mode. A flashing blue light indicates that there is no power, and the battery needs to be charged for a minimum of 3.5 hours.
If the vacuum cleaner`s airways become blocked, the device may automatically shut off to prevent damage. Check for blockages by disassembling the wand from the roller head and the bin. Check inside and around each component. Be careful of sharp objects and debris.
The most common cause of no power is the machine overheating and cutting out. In this case once the vacuum cleaner loses power leave it for at least half an hour and then try turning it back on again. If it comes back on again after an hour then clean your filters and check for blockages.
Check For Clogs or Blocks In The Vacuum

Check the hoses, the filters, and throughout the vacuum, and clean out any blockages or clogs. Vacuums will likely also have a recommended cooldown time to ensure that the vacuum won`t overheat. You will need to wait for that time before you turn the vacuum back on.

A damaged vacuum hose, clogged motor air filter or bad suction motor can cause the vacuum cleaner to shut off during use. A tripped overload on the vacuum suction motor can shut off the vacuum cleaner during use. If your vacuum has a reset button, push it; if the vacuum seems hot, let it cool off first.
A Dyson vacuum cleaner has a lifespan of around 10 years. This is considerably longer than most other vacuums. So, if you`re looking for a high-quality vacuum cleaner that will last you for a long time, a Dyson could be a good choice. However, remember that Dyson vacuums are expensive.
Check the LED light to determine the battery level. A solid blue light indicates that the machine is in normal operating mode. A flashing blue light indicates that there is no power, and the battery needs to be charged for a minimum of 3.5 hours.
In many cases, you probably can repair a Dyson yourself, especially when it comes to common issues (see below). However, even if your machine needs some extra TLC by a Dyson expert, it can be worth getting it repaired.
Yes, replacing a Dyson V6 battery is possible with the proper tools and knowledge of the steps. Just make sure to get a screwdriver set with a rubber handle, which will make it easier to loosen the bolts.
Description. This genuine Dyson vacuum part is the reset switch for the Dyson DC24 and D25 uprights. This switch needs to be activated if you experience a power surge while vacuuming, and your vacuum turns off as a result.
To reset the Brush bar press the Brush bar control button twice or switch the machine off and back on. Please note: In normal use, the Brush bar automatically turns off when the machine is upright and automatically turns on when the machine is in the vacuuming position.
You may visit a Dyson Service Center to have your Dyson machine serviced and/or repaired. If you are unable to visit a Dyson Service Center, you may ship your Dyson machine to Dyson for service and/or repair.
Blue light flashes 10 times indicating charge required. Charged until light goes out, same thing happens.
The LED light on the end of the handle will pulse with a blue LED light when charging, and the light will go out when fully charged. It can take up to four hours to fully charge your battery. Your battery has been designed to be left on charge.
The battery is designed to be left on charge permanently, and this will ensure that the vacuum is fully charged when it`s next used. Once the battery is fully charged, your cordless vacuum won`t use any more electricity. All batteries differ and may vary during their lifetime.
Most problems arise because of a blockage – if not a dirty filter or cyclone unit, then something could be caught in the wand or the brush bar. Once again, the lack of suction could be caused by a dirty filter or a blockage somewhere in the vacuum`s system.
Overheated Motor

If your vacuum was working fine and then suddenly shut off, it may have overheated. Most vacuums are equipped with a thermal protector safety switch that won`t allow the motor to run when it becomes overheated. You will need to wait for 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on your machine, to try again.

My Dyson DC-17 Absolute Animal does not stay running after I push start button. It will only run if I hold the start button down all the time.

My Dyson DC07 vacuum started to run slower after being on for a little while and then would run normally again. I have switched on today and it has just stopped. When I push the start button, on occasions it almost starts and then doesn’t. I am wondering if there is a problem with the switch and if so how can it be fixed?

Thankyou.

ANSWER : The motor running slower was the motor starting to burn out. The “almost start” is the brushes making intermittent contact with the armature in the motor. .

I’m trying to figure out which dyson vacuum is better, the DC14 or DC17. from what i read, the DC17 is the newer model of the DC14, the DC17 added an extra motor for the brush, but from the dyson site, the DC17 has less suction power. it went from 250AW (dc14) to 220AW (dc17). is that a significant difference that i should be worried about?
ANSWER : Hi,

DC17 is much better than DC14. I always believe User’s review are much better than what Features Company usually Displays.

Dc17 -too much pet hair around the belt gears
ANSWER : I was having the same trouble and it was driving me nuts.  I tried cleaning and it did not work.  Then I tore the brush assembly off and looked up into where the little tooth gear is.  I saw something that did not look right.  There was a silver roller bearing laying down below the assembly.  I got some tweezers and found it was not attached to any thing.  I then cleaned out the pet hair and saw a spot where this roller goes that takes the slack out of the brush. It is a pain and takes alot of trying with pliers and prodding  with a screw driver, but I got the roller back where it goes.  It does not attach very solidly, but I put every thing back together and it works great so far.  It is a definite design flaw.  I found that you have to keep the main unit on  the floor when the brush is running.  Do not do stairs or pick it up and do couch cushions, that is when the bearing breaks loose.  Dyson needs to figure out a better design for this.  I was lucky to figure it out, but it is very hard to get to.  Again never pick up the unit when the brushes are engaged.

I love my dyson but it suddenly won’t stay powered on! I push the on/off button and it works fine but only if I hold the button down. As soon as I take my hand away, it stops. I’ve had it and

I bought a used Miele vacuum with the SET210 wand, but the push button to release and clamp the telescoping wand was missing. I can get the wand to slide by pushing with my finger, but it’s a little difficult. The main problem is that nothing holds it in place at the desired position. I bought a replacement push button online, but it came with no instructions. How do I install it?
ANSWER : Your best bet would be to put on your friendly face, and take the unit into a Vacuum Repair Shop, and have them assist you, or at least give you tips on the procedure. Chances are you will have to disassemble the unit a lot more than you might want to. You might try to contact Miele support to inquire about any diagrams, etc., and their support site is here:
