Faulty Suction
If the machine will no longer efficiently pick items up, the filter might be dirty. If after cleaning the filter your vacuum is still not sucking things up, turn your vacuum around and pull the red tab at the bottom of your Dyson out.
Most cases of a jammed or stuck brush bar are quick and easy to fix, simply pulling the debris gently from the brush bar. Alternatively, if you need to clear a problematic blockage, you can take the brush bar out of the housing easily, for quick maintenance.
Check both ends of the tube for any debris that may clog the machine. Make sure to empty dirt bin and clean the filters if they are dirty. If you experience no suction when using a tool, remove the tool and check each opening for clogging.
It`s possible there`s a power consumption issue, with there just not being enough residual charge to run the machine. A new battery should fix this. My other thought is that it`s overheating. If too much power is pushed through the motor, which MAX power does, it could stop after a few seconds if it become hot.
If your vacuum`s brush bar is not turning, the bar may be clogged from hair and other debris. Ensure that the brushbar button, which is gray and located next to the power button, is turned on. If this is not the issue, then the brushbar itself may be damaged or stuck.
One of the easiest ways to increase vacuum cleaner suction is to empty the dust bag or container. Dust containers need to have enough space for airflow, otherwise, they could get clogged and have less suction power. Regularly check your dust compartment and empty or change it when it`s already 70-80% full.
The most common cause of vacuum cleaner not picking up dirt properly is clogged air filter. Remove the filter and either clean or replace it as needed.
If all you hear from the vacuum unit is a click at the when you try to start the vacuum motor from inside the house, then the motor in the unit is dead and has to be replaced. A strong odor from the shellac, which coats the copper coil windings, is an indicator that the motor is about to or has burnt out.
We recommend replacing your air purifier filter every 12 months. That`s because over time, filters can get clogged with pollutants, and even let unpleasant odors back into the room.
I would not use with filter off. This must be a feature of the newer models. This one blows air even with the filter removed. The suction is reduced by a considerable amount.
To reset the Brush bar press the Brush bar control button twice or switch the machine off and back on. Please note: In normal use, the Brush bar automatically turns off when the machine is upright and automatically turns on when the machine is in the vacuuming position.
Yes, Dyson vacuum cleaner brushes do wear out due to them continuously rubbing against the carpet. Just like a toothbrush, the vacuum cleaner roller bristles can flatten and get too soft. That`s why Dyson vacuum cleaner brushes should be replaced regularly.

My dyson seems to have lost its suction therefore is not picking up anything yet i have found that when my dyson is standing upright it has a little more suction but nothing like how it use to work. This has only happend in the last 2 weeks. I sanded a floor & though the sander picked up majority of the dust i did use the dyson to pick up the excess and it is since then that my dyson has not been working to its full potential.

Dyson DC 24 brushbar motor stops working , every so often , I press the reset button then it works for a while and stops again till I press reset again.
ANSWER : Hi there, it’s Jack at Dyson.
DC24 is equipped with a safety device which shuts off the brush bar if something jams it – for example, a shoelace or a rug fringe. From what you’ve described, it sounds like there may be something in the cleaner head which is jamming the brush bar. It’s also important to remove any threads or hair from around the brush bar regularly. Please follow the steps shown in our online Support guide:
You may also find the video below useful. Make sure that before you test the machine, you’ve reclined it into the vacuuming position, because the brush bar will never rotate when the machine is standing upright.
I’m confident this will resolve the issue, but if you’d like any further assistance, please give our Helpline a call on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1-866-693-9766 (US).
Poor Suction Heya! So I just picked up a used Dyson, but when I vacuum with it, the suction is pretty weak and it spits all kinds of stuff out the back and into my feet. When I pull the hose I have good suction, but in regular mode it hardly picks up anything. The brushes are spinning, and it eventually will clean an area if I go over it again and again. Maybe a clog somewhere? Please tell me that Dysons have better suction than my $50 Dirt Devil! Thanks!
ANSWER : I recently bought a second hand Dyson DC07. Its suction was poor. I removed all the un-clipable pipe bits and to remove any blockage but it all looked clear. The Final Sponge and hepper filter did have a lot of dust in it and the rotating brush was full of hair but nothing bad. . .I eventual gave in to curiosity and removed the three screws in the top or the yellow removable dust collection tube and cyclone bit to see what was in there. The mechanism to release the flap at the bottom of the collection tube does not allow you to remove the lid completely but it does open far enough to get inside. I found the whole top section of the yellow plastic bit blocked by a big plug of compacted dust and a champagne cork. If you are willing to take the risk and have a torx 15 screwdriver handy it that part may be blocked. It did get a bit messy. . .If I was going to attempt the same procedure I’d remove the dust collection unit from the vacuum cleaner as I did before, but leave the clear tube attached and the emptying flap firmly closed to reduce the mess from the dust falling out the bottom while cleaning the top part.
Took Roomba apart to clean and now the pick up brushes start and stop during cleaning. The vaccum is clean but will not constantly spin. Runs great but pick up brushes start and stop. Is there a number for Roomba? Warranty? This one is less than one year old.
ANSWER : You can go to www.iRobot.com . This is the roomba website. You should be able to find replacement parts, customer support, videos or the Roomba product, and more. .When you cleaned your Roomba, did you also clean the wheel wells and outer most edges of the brush brush cartridges? There can be lint, threads, and at my house, cat hair, wrapped around the outermost edges of the brush cartridges. .I hope my suggestions help. If so, please contact Fixya and rate my solution. .Thanks and Good Luck!
My Dyson DC 04 has stopped picking up I have checked the belt it is ok and emptied the cylinder what can I do.? My product does not appear on your list but it is one of the original and it is Green
ANSWER : I guess you’ve also checked that the washable filter is clean. If not, do that first. Next place to look is underneath – you will see a short length of spiral-reinforced clear plastic tube. That tube is liable to split, and even quite a small split will cause serious loss of pick-up. You need to inspect that tube very carefully – it just pulls off at the motor end and then unscrews from the brush-roll end. If you find a split, it’s not worth patching it – just get a new tube, it’s not expensive.. .I hope this helps!
