Check the machine. A high pitch whistle could indicate a seal is damaged or the machine is blocked. If the noise occurs without the Wand and Cleaner head, it is likely to be caused by either the bin or cyclone.
If there is a strong burning smell coming from the motor area of your Dyson DC14 or DC07 then it is most likely that your motor has burnt out.
If the motor on your Dyson vacuum is faulty, it will need replacing. The video and step by step guide below will take you through your Dyson motor replacement.
If your Dyson vacuum cleaner is making a loud vibrating or revving noise. First thing to try is empty your bin and make sure there are no blockages, if that doesn`t solve it then remove the brushbar and then try switching your Dyson back on again.
Empty your dust bin

An overflowing or packed dust bin may lead to a shrill noise as the vacuum can`t fit any more debris inside. Check your dust container and make sure it is entirely empty.

Check the Cleaner head

If your machine is making a whistling noise, this indicates that there is a blockage or a damaged or missing seal. Remove the floor tool from the extension tube. Check for blockages and remove as necessary.

As the cleaner head and filter fills with dirt and debris over time, all the built-up debris begins to emit a burnt-smelling odour. You may need to remove and clean out the vacuum`s filter. We need to advise you to stop using your machine and request that you contact your local customer support team.
A Dyson vacuum cleaner has a lifespan of around 10 years. This is considerably longer than most other vacuums. So, if you`re looking for a high-quality vacuum cleaner that will last you for a long time, a Dyson could be a good choice. However, remember that Dyson vacuums are expensive.
If you`re looking for a complete rebuild, you can expect to pay $100 or more. However, you may be able to get your Dyson repaired for free if the service is covered by the product`s warranty. According to Dyson, cordless vacuums have a two-year warranty while corded models have a five-year warranty.

Jet exhaust noise is caused by the violent turbulent mixing of the exhaust gases with the atmosphere and is influenced by the shearing action caused by the relative speeds between the exhaust jet and the atmosphere.
When the seal is broken or damaged, the wheel bearing will fail and start making noise. Many describe this as an airplane noise, but others might say it is like driving over a rumble strip on the side of the highway or the whirring of a helicopter propeller.
If you listen very carefully, sometimes you can hear a “hiss” sound that is the signal of a vacuum leak. However, the most common way to notice this is when the engine loses fuel efficiency. The reason for this is due to the fact that vehicle exhaust is delayed on exiting the combustion chamber.
One of the reasons turbo pumps become noisy is because of the bearings. When the bearing is coming to the end of its life the turbo pump will start to emit a high-pitched whining noise. This indicates that the bearing is on its way to failure and it should be replaced.
Your Vacuum Pump Is Noisy

Sometimes, extra noise can mean that there are pieces of debris stuck in the system rattling around. It can be an easy fix—just locate and remove the debris. A loud pump could also mean you have worn bearings that need to be replaced or lubricated.

Check the LED light to determine the battery level. A solid blue light indicates that the machine is in normal operating mode. A flashing blue light indicates that there is no power, and the battery needs to be charged for a minimum of 3.5 hours.
The rattling noise may be cause by a blockage in the machine, therefore the following blockage checks should be carried out. Remove the floor tool from the machine and place your hand over the extension tube.

I’m trying to figure out which dyson vacuum is better, the DC14 or DC17. from what i read, the DC17 is the newer model of the DC14, the DC17 added an extra motor for the brush, but from the dyson site, the DC17 has less suction power. it went from 250AW (dc14) to 220AW (dc17). is that a significant difference that i should be worried about?
ANSWER : Hi,

DC17 is much better than DC14. I always believe User’s review are much better than what Features Company usually Displays.

Bad Motor I have purchased two of the Kenmore direct drive beltless systems with Progressive systems. The first died after a year, the vacuum motor start making a grinding noies. I pulled the side HEPA filter and could see a fine coating of graphite like dust. Took it to a vacuum repair shop. They said the brushes were going and thus the motor was shot. I liked the vacuum and bought a second, 1 year later the motor is making a slight noise that and removing the HEPA filter I find a slight metall
ANSWER : That dust is from the carbon brushes on the motor. You may need to check them, and also clean out the motor compartment. A slight noise could be a motor bearing starting to go. Does the smell like rubber or electrical. If rubber, then the belt has stretched and needs to replaced. If electrical, then something is causing the motor to run hot, like a clogged filter, or it could be a motor going bad.

BURNING SMELL My DC 07 has suffered from poor suction in the upright position for some time now but this morning it ground to a halt. It was if the motor had burned out. I have the Dyson DC14 and its like it’s not brushing the carpet anymore, The brush is spinning, but its like it isn’t self adjusting to the carpet height? It still has suction, but doesn’t make the same sound it used to when you’d start vacuuming. Its like it never adjusts anymore???
ANSWER : Hi its Darran at Dyson.

It sounds as though the internal hose underneath the machine has twisted slightly. With the machine switched off, lay it on its side and look at the base. You should be able to see a small corrigated hose. Simply twist this a quarter turn clockwise which hopefully will allow the head to adjust again.

Motor is sparking and smells like burning rubber. When it first happened I thought the vacuum had something jamming the beater bar. That was the smell it had, like when the belt gets burned. But when we turned it over, it wasn’t jamming. Took off the base plate and turned it on. The motor area is sparking and it makes a weird noise (I assume that is because the motor fails and restarts). I looked for loose wires, can’t find any. I believe I need some sort of part replaced, maybe even a n
