Dyson DC07 Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum

How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :

A clog is a common (perhaps the most common) reason that a Dyson unit loses suction. They have a number of choke points in the airflow paths. Some considerations follow: Hoses: because of their often rough inner surfaces and inevitable bends, hoses are prime locations for clogs.
The suction control slider is located at the front of the cleaner head. The ball located between the bin and the cleaner head.
Faulty Suction

If the machine will no longer efficiently pick items up, the filter might be dirty. If after cleaning the filter your vacuum is still not sucking things up, turn your vacuum around and pull the red tab at the bottom of your Dyson out.

Vacuum cleaners are fairly simple machines. They need power to be transmitted to the vacuum to create a suction force that lifts debris. So, the usual areas that cause suction loss include the wrong height setting, stuck rollers, a faulty gasket, a broken vacuum belt, a filled bag, or a clogged hose.
One of the easiest ways to increase vacuum cleaner suction is to empty the dust bag or container. Dust containers need to have enough space for airflow, otherwise, they could get clogged and have less suction power. Regularly check your dust compartment and empty or change it when it`s already 70-80% full.
A Dyson vacuum cleaner has a lifespan of around 10 years. This is considerably longer than most other vacuums. So, if you`re looking for a high-quality vacuum cleaner that will last you for a long time, a Dyson could be a good choice. However, remember that Dyson vacuums are expensive.
Check the LED light to determine the battery level. A solid blue light indicates that the machine is in normal operating mode. A flashing blue light indicates that there is no power, and the battery needs to be charged for a minimum of 3.5 hours.
To reset the machine, turn the power off (using either the power button on the remote or the Main body), wait 60 seconds and then turn back on.
Clog located in the vacuum hose

Turn the unit on and feel the suction at the end of the hose handle. If there is no or low suction, then the clog is in the hose. You can remove the clog by running a long, stiff object through the hose, such as a butter knife, starting at the wall end.

A vacuum reading at idle that is much lower than normal might indicate leakage through the intake manifold gaskets, manifold to carburetor gaskets, vacuum brake booster or the vacuum modulator. Low readings could also be caused by very late valve timing or worn piston rings.
We recommend replacing your air purifier filter every 12 months. That`s because over time, filters can get clogged with pollutants, and even let unpleasant odors back into the room.
All vacuum cleaners operate based on air flowing from the opening at the cleaning head or tool, through the vacuum cleaner and the bag and/or filter system and then out the exhaust port. This airflow is created by the vacuum motor, which also may be referred to as the suction motor.
Check the Rotator Brush and Wheels

Sometimes pieces of string or other objects get wrapped around your vacuum`s rotating brush or around the wheels of the vacuum. Unplug your vacuum. Turn it over and have a look at the wheels and brush. If you see any pieces of string or objects lodged there, remove them.

In the event of an airways obstruction the machine is designed to pulsate. This is an audible feature that not just indicates a restriction of airflow, but also helps in preventing damage to the motor.

A 1/2 inch height adjustment should resolve this and be easily added by Dyson. Put a flip switch on the vacuum head itself that raises it up higher off the carpet.

If you find that your machine is turning off intermittently, the filter in your vacuum is most likely full and covering the ventilation system. Remove the filter, then empty and wash it. Allow the filter to dry for at least 24 hours, or until it is completely dry.

The battery is designed to be left on charge permanently, and this will ensure that the vacuum is fully charged when it`s next used. Once the battery is fully charged, your cordless vacuum won`t use any more electricity. All batteries differ and may vary during their lifetime.

How do I install brushes on Hoover V2 Windtunnel? Does a right and left go on the right side and vice versa on the left side? That is how it orignally came? Or do I put both rights on the right and both lefts on the left? Thanks for your help and advice.

I have the dyson animal. There is something stuck in the wand tube and everyting is getting caught on it. There is very little suction from the wand. How do I get the wand apart or somehow get the object stuck out of the tube? Thanks
ANSWER : Yes, things stuck in vacuum hoses are not always as easy to remove as one might think. Trying to push it out with something can be counter-productive, and only get the thing stuck tighter! If you have a second vacuum, you can try sucking it out the way it came in (and risk getting it stuck in the other machine. Or you can try pulling it out, using a wooden stick with a small hook screwed in the end. If you try a piece of bent wire, you must be careful not to perforate the hose. Usually just requires a bit of ingenuity.

My dyson seems to have lost its suction therefore is not picking up anything yet i have found that when my dyson is standing upright it has a little more suction but nothing like how it use to work. This has only happend in the last 2 weeks. I sanded a floor & though the sander picked up majority of the dust i did use the dyson to pick up the excess and it is since then that my dyson has not been working to its full potential.

This is embarassing, but I have just looked at the Dyson DC07 manual and at my Dyson for about 20 minutes, and I can’t for the life of me find the wand release button on my actual Dyson…..the manual pictures don’t look like the parts on my Dyson….I don’t have a hose with a wand release button….the hose just goes straight up inside the handle….Can someone help me? Thanks 🙂
ANSWER : Hi the wand release button is located directly above the the Cylinder release button. The wand release button looks like the picture below. In order to releease the wand you must firstly make sure the Electrical cable is not wrapped up for storage. So unwrap the electrical cable. then find the item as in the picture. Press this button in and at the same time lift the wand. This will realease the wand from the spine of the Dyson. dumfriesdon.jpg

I need to replace the brushbaron my DC17 Animal model Dyson. It’s almost four years old. I can’t find the correct part number on the Dyson Website and I can’t seem to find a Dyson repair center in Albuquerque, NM.

What are my alternatives? If I can’t service this machine without returning it to Dyson, I won’t ever buy another one.

ANSWER : Hi,
.
.The original Dyson part number for the brush bar (often called brush roll) is: 911961-01
.
.If you type the above part number into Google Products (click link below) you will get a list of suppliers at varying prices. A genuine Dyson part will cost about $20-25. There are some cheaper replacements available but you may need a different belt to use these, so I suggest you buy an original. Make sure the supplier states the part is Original / Genuine Dyson or OEM.

.I can’t help you locate a Dyson service centre in Albuquerque, but you should be able to fit the new brush bar yourself. If you do need a local service centre, you can call Dyson on the following number – they will provide details of your nearest authorised service centre:

DYson DC07 not sucking properly when in upright mode. I have tried cleaning out pipes etc and even tried an old motor section I had in garage (replaced once under warranty as kept cutting out and they left old motor section here). Even the old motor section had same prob so this suggests its something in the rest of the vacuum cleaner (whats left after you have lifted off the green motor section and dust collection area if you see what I mean? Any advice weclome please.
ANSWER : Blocked filters

Today i was hoovering, and then my dyson just cut out! i left it a few hours then went back to it, it gave a little noise when i switched it on, then again i tried but it failed to come on! ive even changed the fuse in the plug! and now my dyson wont turn on at all, ive cleaned everything there is too clean! help! 😀
ANSWER : It looks like you need a professional repair. If you’re really lucky this may just be a break in the flex, or the switch has failed – both relatively cheap and simple to sort out. More likely, though, is a problem with the motor (carbon brushes worn out perhaps) – bound to be more expensive, if only because there’s more labour involved. .
.Sorry not to be able to offer a quick fix!
