As the cleaner head and filter fills with dirt and debris over time, all the built-up debris begins to emit a burnt-smelling odour. You may need to remove and clean out the vacuum`s filter. We need to advise you to stop using your machine and request that you contact your local customer support team.
If your vacuum is leaving dirt behind, or even spitting dirt back out while cleaning, it`s usually due to a blockage. It sounds like you`re experiencing this from the base of your machine, so we would suggest having a look at this video here, on removing blockage from the cleanerhead.
Why is the vacuum is blowing dusty air out of the back? Simple: the bag or canister is full and the vacuum has nowhere to store the dust it is collecting. Empty the canister or bag. If that doesn`t fix it, the vacuum filter needs to be cleaned or changed.
If there is a strong burning smell coming from the motor area of your Dyson DC14 or DC07 then it is most likely that your motor has burnt out.
If you`re smelling rubber, the belt has either burned out and snapped or the belt has become so stretched out that the roller is not moving and the vacuum belt is getting super heated from the motors RPM.
Burning smell can indicate motor damage

If you suspect that the motor is damaged, you should not continue to use the vacuum cleaner! The cause of motor damage is usually wear and tear or damage caused by prolonged improper use (e.g. overheating). In most cases, it is not worth repairing.

Check the brushes – the brushes should be cleaned about once or twice a year at least. Make sure that the cleaner is unplugged when seeing to the brushes. 4. Wash the hose – dust and dirt particles get stuck in the hose and decay over time, causing your vacuum to smell.
Clog located in the vacuum hose

Turn the unit on and feel the suction at the end of the hose handle. If there is no or low suction, then the clog is in the hose. You can remove the clog by running a long, stiff object through the hose, such as a butter knife, starting at the wall end.

If the filter isn`t clean, it can impact the performance of the vacuum. Dirty vacuum filters can restrict airflow so the suction won`t be as strong.
Yes, Dyson air purifiers remove odors from your home. Look for the activated carbon filter on the product page to confirm this. Here`s one of their most popular air purifiers from Amazon.
The Dyson DC07 was introduced in 2001 with brand new Root Cyclone technology.
If these belts are loose, misaligned, or damaged, they could slip off, resulting in high friction and a strong burning rubber smell. The rubber hoses from nearby systems could also rub against the belt and produce a burning smell.
No, an electrical fire does not typically produce a toxic smell. However, it can produce a very unpleasant burning smell that can be difficult to ignore. If you notice an electrical fire smell in your home or office, it is important to take action immediately and evacuate the premises.
Electrical Fires Not Only Smell Bad, But They`re Also Toxic

This results is toxic fumes that include ketones and aldehyde gases that are harmful to inhale. Polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) by-products are also emitted from electrical burning equipment that can cause cancer and other serious health issues.

That being said, an electrical fire can smell like the following: Burning Plastic: The acrid odor of an electrical fire is often described as that of burning plastic. This is because wiring insulation, connectors, and many other electrical components are made of plastic materials.
Over time, all batteries are subject to degradation. So if your run time has declined when the machine is not in Max / Boost mode, it might be time to buy a new battery. All our machines come with a 2-year initial warranty that includes the battery.
Summary. Dyson batteries should last around 2-6 years before needing to be replaced. This wide range reflects the fact that how you care for and maintain the battery will affect how long it lasts. If you want your vacuum`s battery to last longer, make sure it`s stored at room temperature.
Depending on your Dyson model, you may be surprised by the amount of dust and debris you`ll find inside it. So, `detach the hose from the wand, then clean its insides using a cloth pushed inside with the help of a broomstick or anything similar. `
We recommend replacing your air purifier filter every 12 months. That`s because over time, filters can get clogged with pollutants, and even let unpleasant odors back into the room.
Faulty Suction

If after cleaning the filter your vacuum is still not sucking things up, turn your vacuum around and pull the red tab at the bottom of your Dyson out. Check the external hose thoroughly running up and down the hose feeling for any nicks or lodged items.

Simply turn your vacuum head over, place the hook under anything that`s caught up and pull, making sure to follow the line of bristles. Once cut, you should be able to easily pull the hair away from the brush. Depending on the size of your vacuum cleaner head, you may need to make more than one pass.
Dust is made up of particles of dead skin, pet hair, dust mites, and pollen, amongst others, so it`s no wonder failing to dust surfaces can result in bad smells as well as an unsightly appearance.
A strong odor from the shellac that coats the copper coil windings is an indicator that the motor is about to or has burnt out. If the motor is still running, even if it turns on and off by itself as it is heating and cooling, you can still run the motor until it gives up for good.
Problems can occur when overused or clogged filters cause the vacuum motor to overheat. This not only shortens the motor life but causes a loss of suction. In some cases, total motor burn out can occur.

The original belt on my upright Kenmore Progressive broke and I replaced it with the spare that was in the vacuum. The vacuum and spare belt are about 10 years old. Then the spare broke after one vacuuming session and there was a burning smell coming from the vacuum. I ordered new belts and replaced it with the new belt. It seems to be working fine with no smell. I checked the belt after I vacuumed the family room and although it was in tact, the belt was very hot. Is that normal? Should t
ANSWER : The belt heats up due to the friction, as well as being in contact with the shaft of a hot motor. It is normal.

The brush roller stops turning and I can smell the belt burning, then it will catch and start working normal. I looked under the plate to check the belts and they looked okay and no hang ups of string or anything. The only thing that seemed weird was that the smaller belt that actually attaches and turns the roller is a bit loose. The larger belt is tight but looks like its the one that is burning and causing the smell.
ANSWER : Better to replace both belts the smaller one is stretched out thats whyits slipping ,be sure to clean the old rubber off the motor shaft before replacing the belts.it will cause the new belts to run unevevly and go bad before their time

Hi my proheat bissell 7901 stopped pumping water to the floor, but it pumps water from the hand hose. I read the manual and followed how to check belt and the flat belt on right side of shampooer is fine and I turned on and it turns and so do the brushes at the bottom of the machine. I was reading online and I guess there’s two belts on this machine? where can I find the other belt to see if it needs replacing. I guess it’s a ribbed belt? that is the water pump belt?
ANSWER : Just taken ours apart with the same problem… found it was caused by the 2 halves of the main casing coming apart in the area where the upright pedal release is. I found this to be due to the upper casing having broken in 2 places – the bottom of the screw wells..This means that the water tank cannot exert sufficient pressure on the valve to release the water..Only solution is a new top cover assembly

Belts Burning On our Ultimate G, belts are lasting about 2 uses and they smell and burn off. I am looking at the roller and I can see a slight grove where the belt rides. Is it time for a new roller. I am sick and tired of replacing belts and smelling up the house. Thanks Dusty
ANSWER : Yes, replace the brush roll, the ends or end is probably bad and causing the belt to slip and burn up.

I heard that a class action lawsuit against Oreck Vacuum is being started because of all the problems customers are having with their vacuums. Does anyone know about this? The belt burnt out and it seems as though the red arrown does not release the belt. Like it is backwards from the green arrow. It had a burning smell and the belt broke. Then the second belt started to burn out when the brush roller wasn’t spinning. Not sure what might be wrong. Green light will not come on either.
ANSWER : It sounds as if there may be a piece of the broken belt in there. Look carefully with a flash light and remove any remnants you find, using a pair of pliers if you have to.
