How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :

Your Roomba may be experiencing an issue where the APS Battery is deeply discharged and may need to charge longer than the standard 2.5 hours.
A faulty battery has your Roomba returning to the charging station after only 10 – 20 minutes of vacuuming. Therefore, your Roomba takes forever to finish a task as it has to keep recharging. If this is your case, your battery needs replacement.
If you get a more affordable model, like Roomba 675 you can expect a lifespan of up to two years. Go to the higher-end, like the iRobot j7+, and our research and testing suggest you can get five years plus of cleaning with proper maintenance.
Roomba® uses light touch bumper technology to identify walls and other obstacles. This technology allows your robot to slow down and gently touch the obstacle with its bumper before changing direction.
If your Shark ION Robot R75 vacuum stops moving unexpectedly after a few minutes of normal movement, it may simply have low battery power. Check that the device is powered on and that the battery has a significant charge.
You can help Roomba along by scheduling it to clean frequently, and emptying the bin and cleaning the filter as soon as you notice it`s full. Sometimes this occurs during a cleaning job. Ensure you are cleaning the full bin sensors after each emptying to keep Roomba® running in top condition.
Most owners believe that running their robot vacuums four times per week is sufficient to keep the floors dust-free. However, if you have children or pets, you should use your robot vacuum more frequently. Daily vacuuming is recommended if you suffer from seasonal allergies.
For the Roomba`s nickel-based (not lithium ion like smartphones) batteries, it`s best to keep the unit charging whenever you`re not using it. However, don`t leave it in its dock for days at a time — lots of vacuuming will keep its battery healthy.
Con: They can be less reliable and harder to fix

Not only do they need more regular maintenance (cleaning out wheels and brushes, for example), you`ll need to replace the battery every couple of years, and they can be harder and more expensive to fix.

If the red full bin indicator is illuminated or blinking, it means Roomba® senses that the bin is full. Please empty the bin, and clean the full bin sensors and sensor ports thoroughly.
Vacuum cleaners are fairly simple machines. They need power to be transmitted to the vacuum to create a suction force that lifts debris. So, the usual areas that cause suction loss include the wrong height setting, stuck rollers, a faulty gasket, a broken vacuum belt, a filled bag, or a clogged hose.
Roomba has a cleaning cycle limit of 60 minutes. If a Home Base® is present, Roomba will begin searching for it at the end of the 60-minute cycle.
Set in Chicago in 2035, highly intelligent robots fill public service positions throughout the dystopian world, operating under three rules to keep humans safe.
Spiral mode is best for cleaning in concentrated areas. Wall mode is best for cleaning along walls and edges. Single room mode is good for cleaning just one room. It`s recommended to close doors to that room, so the robot is contained.
One of the easiest ways to increase vacuum cleaner suction is to empty the dust bag or container. Dust containers need to have enough space for airflow, otherwise, they could get clogged and have less suction power. Regularly check your dust compartment and empty or change it when it`s already 70-80% full.
Besides regularly cleaning the brushes on your Roomba, you`ll also need to replace them from time to time. iRobot recommends replacing the two main brushes every six to twelve months.
The good news is that adding this detailed mapping is easy — your robot does all the work. When you first get a Roomba, it will automatically start learning your home`s layout.
A vacuum cleaner can run continuously for 30 – 60 min each time. The vacuum cleaner has no suction power. For example, a hair cannot be sucked up.
Roomba® robot vacuums are highly efficient, only drawing power when they`re charging in docks and to ensure uninterrupted connectivity with home WiFi systems. In fact, even if left plugged in all day, Roomba® consumes less energy than the typical upright vacuum cleaner.
iRobot Roomba vacuums can operate even with simple ambient light, but not in total darkness.
To reset the battery for a Roomba model in the 700, 800 or 900 series, connect the robot to the charger and press and hold the CLEAN button for 10 seconds. When you see blue text reading “r S t” on the display, release the button. You should hear a beeping tone, which tells you the reset was successful.
Low price, solid marketing, protected IP, and `good enough` functionality combine to secure iRobot`s market leadership among providers of robotic vacuum cleaners.
Robotic vacuums have built-in sensors that can detect what areas of your home need extra work, and they`ll make extra passes over the area. High traffic areas like hallways, entryways, mudrooms, and playrooms will get the extra attention they need to keep them clean.
Not really. Robovacs excel at cleaning hard floors. Don`t expect one to do very well at vacuuming your rugs and carpets, though. It`ll do perfectly fine at suctioning up the debris on the surface level of your carpet.

I have a DC04 and when i switch it on it works for 10-15 mins thens stops working for about 20 mins then starts working again.
ANSWER : Your vacuum is overheating – that’s why it cuts out. You need to check everywhere possible for blockages and also make sure the washable filter is clean and dry. If the machine has been run without the washable filter in place, then the exhaust filter will be clogged and will have to be changed too.

My dyson dc07 works fine for about 5 to 10 min then turns itself off leave it for 10 min or so then it will work again for a bit then does it all over again. help please thanks
ANSWER : Your machine is overheating. This is usually caused by the dust bin being too full, your filter is long overdue for a cleaning, or there is a clog in the machine. Usually a cheap fix regardless… Wash your filter, check the removeable parts for blockages, and empty your dust bin.

charging like that it will kill the battery faster as it is always warm
to the touch. These battery’s should last at least 5

Roomba Schedular I have a Roomba Scheduler and it has worked great until recently. Suddenly it quit working. When it is charging the power light goes from red to green as it should, showing it is ready to use. When we turn it on to use, it will only go on for a few seconds then it shuts off like it is out of power. It is like it isn’t really charged. Is there something I can try to make it work?
ANSWER : Let it charge for a full 24, or even 48 hours, regardless of the green light. If it still dies you probably need a new battery.. or worse.
