How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Your iron may leak or drip if the temperature is set too low. Your iron needs to get hot enough to turn water into steam. Give your iron a few minutes to heat up before using it. Check your user manual and make sure that you`re using your iron at a temperature setting that is hot enough for the steam function.
Water has condensed into steam in the hose

When you use steam for the first time or if you have not used it for a long time, steam may condense into water in the hose. To solve this, hold your Philips Iron away from the garment and press the steam trigger until steam comes out of the soleplate instead of water.

Similar to an unclean water tank or steam holes, a mineral called Lime can cause buildup on the heat plate causing it to leak water. In minor cases all you need to do is wipe it down, if this is unsuccessful take a damp rag with dish soap and scrub.
If your garment steamers hose is forming a U shape, condensation may not be able to flow into the water tank. This will cause the base to leak. If this is the case, please re-position the hose, making sure it is straight, and lift up the head so condensation can flow back into the tank.
If the iron is leaving brown water spots on clothes when using steam, that means it`s time to clean the reservoir. Empty the reservoir completely and refill with 1/4 cup distilled white vinegar and 3/4 cup distilled water.
Storing the iron with water in it.

Always empty the iron`s water tank before putting the iron away, especially if you store it on its soleplate. This keeps excess water from damaging the internal parts and leaking through and discoloring the soleplate.

I`ve had 2 Rowenta irons in the past and they both lasted about 5 to 6 years with EVERYDAY use.
Best overall clothing iron: Maytag M400 Steam Iron

As with most of the irons tested, this Maytag model features a self-cleaning setting with an anti-calcium system to keep its steam vents wide open and working well and doesn`t leak.

Steaming is an effective way to get wrinkles out of almost any fabric—it requires less space to use a steamer (especially if you use a handheld steamer), and it takes less time and effort than ironing does. Plus, there are plenty of other benefits—even health related! —to steaming that you can`t get from using an iron.
Similar to how iron in a metal pail turns to rust when exposed to water and oxygen, iron minerals in water turn to rust and stain plumbing fixtures and laundry.
The water spray function on your steam iron can be used to help iron heavy fabrics or difficult areas like collars, pockets, sleeves and creases etc. The water spray function can also be used when ironing delicate fabrics which cannot be steam ironed. Before use, make sure there is water in the tank.
When too much water is added to the water tank, the boiling water will start to “spit” out of the steam nozzle. To prevent this from happening, please be sure to only fill the water tank to the “MAX” line as indicated on the water tank of your Hand Held Steamer.
Over time, dirt, dust, spray starch and fabric fibers build-up on the bottom soleplate of your iron. In addition, old water inside your iron`s water reservoir can begin to cause rust spots. While you may be inclined to toss your iron for a newer, cleaner model, regular cleaning is relatively easy.
Can steam irons be used without water? Yes. Simply remove the water from your steam iron by unplugging the iron, letting it cool and then emptying the water tank. If your iron has a dry/steam setting or something similar, turn the dial to this setting; if it lacks a dry setting then select the “MIN” setting.

My sunbeam water cooler model #YLR2-5-67H3 has been sitting unplugged for 3 years. I moved, plugged it in and put a water bottle on top and water went all over the floor. I unplugged it, (read the instructions on the front, duh) and it still leaks on the floor. What should I do?

I put it over the sink, emptied it, checked the drain plug, tried running a glass full of tap water through each tap. Only the room temperature one would work.

ANSWER : One of the rubber connecting hoses inside it has dried and aged so the pressure of the water from the bottle made it burst....
You will need to open it, find the defective hose and replace it – a 2 hour relatively easy job. The hardest part will be in taking the casing apart – lots of hidden screws.

We have the water hooked up at the back of machine. there is a spout for the water to come in and fill the ice tray.but is does not. If we turn the water on it fills up the space under the ice basket. I keep getting red light and then the two smal llight one ice and one water come on. We can hear the motor trying to fill the ice try and then lights come on. Please help me this so I can use this product. It did not come with a manual.
ANSWER : The water inlet valve on the back of unit opens when the ice maker needs water. If the valve doesn’t seal good because of sediment or wear it will continue to drip and when the water reaches the ice maker supply tube it will freeze blocking the fill tube.. You can take the water line off the valve and watch to see if it drips.
With the fill tube blocked with ice the water can drip down the back wall or drip into the ice bin or just stop up. You can use a hairdryer to thaw the tube out.

Need instructions how to use Hoover Steam Vac Spin Scrub. I borrowed it from my Sister and she left it with no instruction book or letting me know how to operate it. I put water & cleaner in top tank. That’s all I know to do. Do I put any water in bottom tank? I figured not, since that is probably where the water goes when sucked up by vac. Do I leave lid on bottom tank? I usually use a commercial cleaner, and this is very different. I need to know NOW, as I must return it to her today, and I’m
ANSWER : I did have a solution in just a few minutes. Someone responded with a solution that gave me the website where I could go and print the manual in pdf, so did that, and checking instructions I was able to clean my carpets and get the shampooer back to my sister later the same day. I really appreciated your site and help I got for my problem. I found it on google. Thanks again!

I have a Sunbeam Model Number 4065-000 and there is white particles comming out of the holes in the bottom. I think it is because we used tap water and there is a lot of deposits in the water. I read on the box that it was ok to use tap water and not distilled water. Is ther any way to clean the inside out to get the deposits cleaned out without affecting the possibility of doing something to the cloths that I will iron after cleaning the iron?
ANSWER : If the deposits are recent and still fairly soft, running a tank of vinegar through the machine should remove the deposits (obviously not using on any clothes, hold it over a sink). if the deposits are more stubborn, you can use a cleaning agent like CLR. rinse the tank out thoroughly after and run through a tank of clean water. good luck!

I have a bissell quickwash 1950-e. I bought it Jan. 2006, and have only used it 8-10 times, I live in a very hard water area, so I though if I put some vinegar in with the cleaning solution it would get rid of any hard water deposits, unfortunatly the solution went lumpy in the tank and stoped spraying out water, I have opened it, hose clean, sprayer not blocked, x at bottom of water container when depresed water trickles out, component that opens the x when water container placed, also ran wate
ANSWER : Hard to say what is causing your problem, replacing the cap and insert on the water tank may help, part #2041111, even tho it may trickle out water when depressed, they can still be bad. The other thing would be the rod not relesing the water like it should. The big draw back to this model is Bissell has obsoleted all of its parts and most are no longer available. Might be wiser to buy new.
