How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

To do this, turn on the vacuum and press the reset button. The service indicator light will turn off and then be reset to its original position. This will only work if the indicator light has already come on, not if the reset button has been pushed between filter changes.
Overheating may be caused by a blockage in the vacuum, or due to a full dustbag and/or filters. Follow the steps outlined in the Blockage section above to resolve this issue. Once clear, the vacuum should no longer overheat.
There are three main causes for your Miele to not power on: The power switch has failed. The cord reel is damaged. Your motor has gone bad.
First, check that the cord is properly connected to the vacuum cleaner (again, this is surprisingly easy to overlook) and that there are no splits in the rubber. If the cord is damaged, it will need immediately repairing or replacing. The on/off switch can break over time and need replacing.

A button or switch on many computers that allows you to reset the computer. When you press the reset button, the computer will enter its start-up procedure as if you had turned the power off and then on again. Generally, you would use the reset button only when a program error has caused your computer to hang.
If there is something that has become caught in the hose in another part of the system, the airflow will be reduced and can cause overheating and a shut down. Clear out hoses, attachments, and brushes of any hair, dirt, and debris. This will allow for restored airflow and should get things going again.
When a thermal cut off activates, it shuts the motor down. This prevents the motor from overheating to a point where it will no longer function and will need replacing.
Once all of the checks have been done allow the cleaner to cool down which is usually around 45 minutes. Once its cooled down and plugged back in it should start to work again as the cut out is designed to automatically reset.
A damaged vacuum hose, clogged motor air filter or bad suction motor can cause the vacuum cleaner to shut off during use. A tripped overload on the vacuum suction motor can shut off the vacuum cleaner during use. If your vacuum has a reset button, push it; if the vacuum seems hot, let it cool off first.
If your vacuum cleaner keeps turning off, this could be due to the following reasons: Blockages – check the hose and head for any obstructions. Filter – always check your filters, if these are clogged this could be causing the vacuum cleaner to work harder and lose suction power.
A strong odor from the shellac that coats the copper coil windings is an indicator that the motor is about to or has burnt out. If the motor is still running, even if it turns on and off by itself as it is heating and cooling, you can still run the motor until it gives up for good.
On average, a well-maintained robotic vacuum cleaner can last up to 4-6 years, but some models may last even longer.
Lights fitted with an Reset Switch can be turned ON or OFF by the local or remote switch, this overcomes the usual tendency to switch ON all the lights in an area as a matter of course.

Generally overheating is caused by overworking the pump. If your vacuum pump isn`t working as it should, you`re having to run it for longer, or at higher speeds, making the pump overheat and potentially seize.
The most common problem with a vacuum cleaner is also the easiest to remedy: clogs in the hose or attachments. Also the electrical cord, motor, switch, fan, brushes, and motor bearings can all need repair or replacement. The drive belt may need replacing; and the attachments, hoses, and filters may need unclogging.
Burning smell can indicate motor damage

If you suspect that the motor is damaged, you should not continue to use the vacuum cleaner! The cause of motor damage is usually wear and tear or damage caused by prolonged improper use (e.g. overheating). In most cases, it is not worth repairing.

Watch for Overheating

You should wait for about an hour for your vacuum cleaner to cool down before switching it on again. This is a great indication that there may be something serious about to go wrong with your vacuum cleaner and it is time to take it in for service.

Wait until the engine completely cools — at least 30 minutes. You might be able to speed up the cooling process if you can pop the hood with a latch located inside the car cabin. But, do not touch or attempt to open the hood until the engine is completely cool. Check the coolant/antifreeze reservoir.
How long can a car overheat before damage occurs? It only takes 30-60 seconds of overheating for permanent damage to infiltrate a vehicle. As soon as you notice signs of overheating, you need to act. Failure to do so might result in troubles like coolant leaks, damaged radiator caps, and a faulty cooling fan.
Immerse you in cold water.

A bath of cold or ice water has proven to be the most effective way of quickly lowering the core body temperature.

Electrolux Epic 6500SR Full Bag sensor working, Does not Reset properly
ANSWER : The problem was a sticking switch that was not being reset. The vacuum on/off switch mechanism is comprised of two switches. One is the main switch that turns the vacuum on and off. The second is a shut off switch that gets tripped when the full bag sensor is engaged. This second switch is supposed to get reset when you push the on/off switch on the outside of the machine. The full bag shutoff switch was stiff and it, therefore, was taking a couple of presses of the on/off switch to move the shutoff switch back into the running position.

I have a remote Hunter Ceiling Fan w/ remote 1-2-3 fan speed buttons and one on/off/dimmer light button. Model Number CP-9110R. It only has one pull string and it is for the light. I would like convert the light to work off of a simple wall on/off switch and the fan to be controlled by a 3-speed pull string. Can I by-pass all the sensors and make it work?
ANSWER : I see noone has answered so I will.Yes,it could be done, but if there is not a conversion kit for your fan,it would not be wise to do it.For starters, all of the things required would probably cost at least $15.Also,there is at least one tool you would most likely need, probably do not already have, and would easily double that.Electrical considerations would be proper wire guage(thickness),rewiring, attaching to a switch which is in place solid. Also, with the fan so close to the ceiling there is a bad fire hazard.
.Depending on how nice of a fan you would like,it probably costs between $50-$100.It would save you time, headaches, and uncertainty of fire starting. If the fan is on when noone is home, that would be a worrisome situation.Your house would be almost engulfed before anyone noticed and it would be too late to save anything. Also,if you do not want to keep your current fan,you could take it down and sell it and put the money towards a new one.You may not like my answer, but I have years of training and simply like to inform and educate people who are looking for answers.Whether I can help them or not,I tell them what to do and why.Greg

I have a raynor flight star garage opener. Had a lighting strike 4 days ago. All power is good. The opener even has a little green light on the switch that is attached to it. However the opener is not responding. Is there a way to reset on the motor by taking off the housing? I don’t see any reset button on the out side of the housing.thnx
w
ANSWER : You could always try unplugging the unit and plugging it back in. If that doesn’t work the logic board is probably fried and unfortunately there is no replacement available for it any longer. You would need to buy a new opener. I’d recommend Liftmaster.

I need to know if it has a reset button. we had a power outage and it has stopped working since than. cant find a button to reset it.
ANSWER : Vacuum cleaners do not have reset buttons instead it would have a thermal protection breaker integrated within the motor if the motor overloads it will shut off but will start again as it cools down.Check to make sure the outlet has power in it first. Vacuum cleaners are usually reliable since they are not subjected to prolonged use unless it is used in commercial environment, but a common problem with it is a bad internal connection usually around the motor area due to vibration.
