How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :

Clean the dock`s charing contacts

If the contacts get too dirty, the vacuum will have a tough time getting a solid charging connection, and it may be unable to dock as a result. The best way to clean the Roomba`s charging contacts is with a damp melamine foam, like Mr. Clean`s Magic Eraser.

Roomba® backs up when it senses an obstacle or a cliff. If Roomba® is backing up when there are no obstacles or cliffs present, it is possible that its sensors are dirty. Use the following procedures to clean the cliff sensors and bumper sensors.
Wi-Fi Connected 600 & 800 Series Robots: Press and Hold the Dock and Spot Clean and CLEAN button down until the robot makes a beep tone, then release. Roomba Combo: Open the lid and locate the recessed Reset button to the left of the On/Off switch. Press and hold the Reset button for ten seconds.
Why does a Roomba go in circles? It`s usually a problem with sensors or with mechanical movement. While spinning in circles may look alarming, it`s rarely a permanent problem, although your robovac definitely needs some care before it`s ready to resume duty again.
If you are experiencing problems with your docking station, clean the connections of the station. Accumulated dust and particles in or around connectors on the docking station can cause connection problems between the computer, external devices, and the docking station. Undock the computer from the docking station.
Try to disconnect and reconnect the docking station to the laptop. Disconnect both ends of the video cable and check for damaged or bent pins. Securely reconnect the cable to the monitor and docking station. Ensure the video cable (HDMI, or DisplayPort) is connected properly to the monitor and the docking station.
Please contact us in our support center. Your Roomba may be experiencing an issue where the APS Battery is deeply discharged and may need to charge longer than the standard 2.5 hours.
If you get a more affordable model, like Roomba 675 you can expect a lifespan of up to two years. Go to the higher-end, like the iRobot j7+, and our research and testing suggest you can get five years plus of cleaning with proper maintenance.
Reason #1:The Roomba Battery Is Fully Charged

The most common reason for the Roomba`s charging dock light turning off is that the battery has reached full charge. If the Roomba`s battery is fully charged, the charging dock`s light will turn off automatically.

Once connected, to start a cleaning job, press New Job + button in the HOME app, or by pressing the button on the robot itself. Once your robot learns your home it will run for up to 120 minutes (120 minute cleaning time is based on robot runs in the iRobot Test Lab) to clean a level of your home.
You can easily check the status of the battery in the iRobot® HOME App. A battery icon will be displayed in the top-right corner, indicating the current status of the battery.
Pulsing red:

The battery needs to be charged.

Simply inspect the dock`s performance by plugging it to another laptop. If it works well and each device behaves properly, there should be nothing wrong with the dock and cables. Then try another device with the port you`re using or, if possible, plug the dock into another port to confirm the original one is intact.
However, there could also be technical reasons for the improper working of your Nintendo Switch like the Switch dock being in an error state, faulty dock, cables in the wrong order, insufficient power provided to the dock, bad configuration, or HDMI issues.
To re-set to the default factory settings, first power off the docking station, press the re-set button for more than 2 seconds, and then power on the docking station.
Most owners believe that running their robot vacuums four times per week is sufficient to keep the floors dust-free. However, if you have children or pets, you should use your robot vacuum more frequently. Daily vacuuming is recommended if you suffer from seasonal allergies.
For the Roomba`s nickel-based (not lithium ion like smartphones) batteries, it`s best to keep the unit charging whenever you`re not using it. However, don`t leave it in its dock for days at a time — lots of vacuuming will keep its battery healthy.
Made by iRobot, these robotic vacuum cleaners use sensors to detect walls and items in a room, becoming smarter the more frequently they clean.
Con: They can be less reliable and harder to fix

Not only do they need more regular maintenance (cleaning out wheels and brushes, for example), you`ll need to replace the battery every couple of years, and they can be harder and more expensive to fix.

They are also equipped with powerful suction that can effectively remove dirt, debris, and even bugs. By regularly vacuuming with a robot vacuum, homeowners can significantly reduce the number of bugs in their homes.
You can put the RoboVac on the charging base/auto-empty station though it`s fully charged. The battery protection circuit prevents the battery from being overcharged. Once the RoboVac is fully charged, it will stop drawing power. In this way, the vacuum can always be ready and cleaned on schedule daily.
Make sure that the docking station IR windows are clean and not full of dust, finger prints smudges. Try to move the doc station into another area of the house and try to doc it again. Make sure it`s within 5 feet without any objects that could interrupt it`s straight path to the doc station.
Your Roomba goes to its Home Base when it`s done cleaning.

When it`s done vacuuming, it will emit a series of beeps before heading back to its Home Base. Once the Roomba docks at its base, check that the battery symbol on the device lights up.

After cleaning is complete, Roomba® will create a Clean Map™ Report to show you where it cleaned, but this map is not remembered or referenced for future cleaning jobs. Some robots that utilize iAdapt 2.0 also incorporate Recharge and Resume technology.

My roomba backs away from docking station then starts to go then stops and spin left then stops and spins right after a few times stops and beeps many beeps. What is the problem
ANSWER : It sounds like the 9-beep error. You can fix it by buying a repair kit from www.eesolutions.ca. I fixed mine in about an hour and a half.

How do I install brushes on Hoover V2 Windtunnel? Does a right and left go on the right side and vice versa on the left side? That is how it orignally came? Or do I put both rights on the right and both lefts on the left? Thanks for your help and advice.
ANSWER : Both right with right left with left.

My Roomba 560 does not automatically dock as advertised either..
ANSWER : You may not believe this, but the new 500 series lighthouse virtual walls have both infrared and radio frequency communication. How they work and associate with the Roomba is pretty complicated. The best posting I’ve ever seen about how they work is here:
http://www.robotreviews.com/chat/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=11048

Check out that link to understand how the communication works.

If your Roomba is contained by the virtual walls, then you can assume the IR sensor on your Roomba us good….you should test that though. Then you might have to replace the “home base” which could have a bad IR transponder . New ones can be found for reasonable price at www.RoboticVacParts.com or you could order straight from iRobot for twice the price.

If the Roomba is not contained by the virtual walls, then the IR sensor on the Roomba is likely bad and you’ll need to change the bumper on your Roomba. Again ….parts are available through ebay, or www.RoboticVacParts.com. Follow this link if you need it.

Roomba discovery My roomba comes off the charger and will go about a minute and a half. Then it will stop and beep once. i checked roombas sight and they said that the brushed need to be cleaned. I cleaned the brushes 6 times. It still does the same thing. I bought it from you in November of 2007. Should I bring it back to your service department?
ANSWER : Greetings doreen f,
.
.The roomba unit carries a one year manufacturers warranty, so you should be able to bring it into your local Best Buy™ store and have them try to repair it.

I have a Bissell Pro Heat 2X carpet cleaner and the brushes spin, then stop. I turn it off and when I re-start, the brushes do not spin until I push foreward. The it spins and stops again. Both belts are tight. The brushes spin if held above the carpet, but upon contact with carpet it stops. Same thing on a hard surface.
ANSWER : The reason for the brushes to stop when it is above any surface is there is a switch in the handle that stops the brushes so it dont burn your motor up it may have a faulty switch.

My roomba spins and moves back and after 2-3 minutes stops and makes the uh oh sound followed by 10-12 beeps I cant say Im sure how many. Some days before stopped cleaning and told me to remove and clean the brushes I did that but then had this problem
ANSWER : ....Your bump sensors are malfunctioning. I had the same problem.. The best thing to do is order a repair kit. I ordered mine from EESolutions.ca and it worked great. I’d recommend it.

Problem starting Sometimes will not start at all. Sometimes will do a quick start and stop. Other times it starts and runs fine????
ANSWER : This can happen if you have an intermittent short in your cord. Try plugging it in and then wiggling the cord around where it goes into the body of the vacuum with the switch set to “on.” (If you’re not sure whether it’s on or off, just click it back and forth occasionally.)
.If the motor kicks on there’s a short, which usually requires a cord replacement. If that’s the case, it’s a relatively simple fix for most dyson models.
.If not, you could have a short in your switch or somewhere else in the electrical system of the machine.
