How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?
Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :
If the contacts get too dirty, the vacuum will have a tough time getting a solid charging connection, and it may be unable to dock as a result. The best way to clean the Roomba`s charging contacts is with a damp melamine foam, like Mr. Clean`s Magic Eraser.
The most common reason for the Roomba`s charging dock light turning off is that the battery has reached full charge. If the Roomba`s battery is fully charged, the charging dock`s light will turn off automatically.
The battery needs to be charged.
Not only do they need more regular maintenance (cleaning out wheels and brushes, for example), you`ll need to replace the battery every couple of years, and they can be harder and more expensive to fix.
When it`s done vacuuming, it will emit a series of beeps before heading back to its Home Base. Once the Roomba docks at its base, check that the battery symbol on the device lights up.
After cleaning is complete, Roomba® will create a Clean Map™ Report to show you where it cleaned, but this map is not remembered or referenced for future cleaning jobs. Some robots that utilize iAdapt 2.0 also incorporate Recharge and Resume technology.

If your Roomba is contained by the virtual walls, then you can assume the IR sensor on your Roomba us good….you should test that though. Then you might have to replace the “home base” which could have a bad IR transponder . New ones can be found for reasonable price at www.RoboticVacParts.com or you could order straight from iRobot for twice the price.
If the Roomba is not contained by the virtual walls, then the IR sensor on the Roomba is likely bad and you’ll need to change the bumper on your Roomba. Again ….parts are available through ebay, or www.RoboticVacParts.com. Follow this link if you need it.

.If the motor kicks on there’s a short, which usually requires a cord replacement. If that’s the case, it’s a relatively simple fix for most dyson models.
.If not, you could have a short in your switch or somewhere else in the electrical system of the machine.
