How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :

Check the active wand, the flexible hose, filter bag and micro-filters, and any on-board attachments that may be clogged. Also remove the brush roller to check for blockages. Inspect the orange trap door on the underside of the power head and remove any debris or blockages.
After years of use, your brush roller may exhibit very little visible wear so gives the impression it is still fit for service. However, don`t be fooled by this (as many people are). The bristles become soft with time with the result that the machine becomes very heavy to push around when in use.
Dyson no longer develops mains-powered vacuums. Sebo does. Sebo vacuums are, without doubt, more reliable and longer-lasting than Dyson. Sebo has a five-year guarantee; Dyson cordless machines have a two-year guarantee.
Sebo vacuums are the most durable and long-lasting vacuums that you can buy, with extraordinary build quality. There`s a reason why they have 10-year warranties – they rarely break.
The most common cause of vacuum cleaner not picking up dirt properly is clogged air filter. Remove the filter and either clean or replace it as needed.
Vacuum cleaners are fairly simple machines. They need power to be transmitted to the vacuum to create a suction force that lifts debris. So, the usual areas that cause suction loss include the wrong height setting, stuck rollers, a faulty gasket, a broken vacuum belt, a filled bag, or a clogged hose.
Replace the Brush Belt

If the vacuum is still hard to push, tilt it back far enough that you can inspect the moving brush while the vacuum is running. Be careful to avoid getting too close to the moving parts. If you see that the brush is not turning, that means you will need to replace the brush belt.

Low suction or poor pick-up may be due to a clog in the vacuum cleaner. If you notice a change in the sound of the motor or a reduction in the spinning action, check for clogs. First, remove the Easy Empty dirt tank from the vacuum and discard all dirt and debris.
Sebo vs Shark

The Shark vacuum brand focuses on bagless vacuum cleaners, which can allow dust and other allergens to become airborne when emptying bagless vacuum dirt containers. Shark does offer cordless models, while SEBO does not. SEBO does offer a longer warranty and more parts are readily available than Shark.

Because of their superior power-head and brush roller technology, SEBO vacuums are the best for pet hair removal and lifting dander/allergens from the carpet and off of bare floors.
Miele vacuums come equipped with HEPA filter technology, which is capable of removing 99.97 percent of pollutants from the air. While SEBO is offering the option to upgrade to HEPA, most of its canister and upright vacuum models are fitted with s-class hospital-grade filtration systems.
The SEBO is more expensive, heavier, and has a smaller dust bin capacity (by almost 2 liters). Both vacuums are relatively heavy, but Dyson is saved by the price, performance, and thorough filters. The SEBO has 9ft more cord, but little else to compete with Dyson`s model.
One of the easiest ways to increase vacuum cleaner suction is to empty the dust bag or container. Dust containers need to have enough space for airflow, otherwise, they could get clogged and have less suction power. Regularly check your dust compartment and empty or change it when it`s already 70-80% full.

Taking off the bumper from A Sebo K1 Airbelt – Sebo K1 airbelt Bagged Canister Vacuum
ANSWER : First, remove the clip at the back of the machine where the airbelt joins (lever it off carefully with a screwdriver). The airbelt is in two parts – the bulky foam strip and a thin material cover. The cover is held in grooves, top and bottom, running all the way round the machine, by two thin plastic strips around which it is wrapped and which just slip into those grooves. The challenge is to get those strips, and the covering material, out without damaging them. Just prise one end out with a small screwdriver and work your way around the machine – it’s more a matter of patience than anything else.

My filter queen just had the motor rebuilt last year and was basically a brand new unit when I got it back. It is not picking anything up now when I vacuum. The beater bar on the carpet attachment is turning fine and when I take all the attachments off the hose I can feel the suction being created like it should be picking up debris just fine. I have emptied the canister even when it did not have much in it; however, it still will not pick anything up off the carpet. It picks up debris tempo
ANSWER : It sounds as if you have a clog inside the “Power Nozzel”. They mention that there are “no user serviceable parts within the Majestic® Power Nozzle” My advice would be to see if you can see a clog with in reachable distance and try to remove the clog. One way to check for a clog which may work for you is to remove the attachment and shine a flashlight on one of of the attachment and look through the other side and see if you see light, if no light, most likely a clog. Past that you might void the warrenty if you try and open it up the Power Nozzel itself. You may want to ask a Phone service rep about clog removal.

Hi, I’ve just had my Sebo X4 back from being repaired (motor was growling so Sebo replaced it FOC under warranty) however, the replacement motor is 1000 watts. I queried this with Sebo, as they c
ANSWER : Watt= volts x amps So what are you losing? Not much really. Should they replace it with the same motor? Possibly, but you got a free motor out of them. To be honest I think you’re splitting hairs on this one. The difference in how much cleaning that sebo will do with one motor vs the other is beyond minimal. The aggressive brushes on that vacuum do 95% of the carpet cleaning and both motors will have no problem turning it at sufficient speed. As far as suction goes I’d be amazed if it was even a noticeable difference. That’s an amazing vacuum you bought, I wouldn’t worry about it and go on with life.

Good Luck

My electrolux oxygen cannister has the “bag change” light on when there is a new bag. The light stays on when the suction power is high (to pick up small particles) and it won’t pick up, but the ight goes off when the suction power is low (to pick up big objects). I changed the hepa filter, cleaned the motor filter and changed bags, but all that didn’t help.
ANSWER : You may have a clog in the hose, and/or the inlet by the brush roll. A clog will turn on that light as well as a full bag.

The vacuum cleaner does not pick up anything from carpet. It does not even pick up pieces of thread laying on carpet. On tile floors it blows dirt away instead of picking it up. I’ve tried all the settings on the brush and nothing works. It has done this since new
ANSWER : Sounds like there is a clog..

.Usually its in the hose – look closely.. Stretch the hose out straight and look in there good..
.
.Or a clog could be in the vac close to where the hose conects to the vac on either end..

My dyson seems to have lost its suction therefore is not picking up anything yet i have found that when my dyson is standing upright it has a little more suction but nothing like how it use to work. This has only happend in the last 2 weeks. I sanded a floor & though the sander picked up majority of the dust i did use the dyson to pick up the excess and it is since then that my dyson has not been working to its full potential.
