How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :

The Cleaning Nozzle is clogged

Calcium and other minerals may build up in the nozzle, so you may need to clean the nozzle in order to produce steam. To do this, either use the nozzle cleaner provided with the Steam Pocket Mop, or use a straightened-out paper clip.

Heating Element. A common cause to your cleaner not producing steam can be a failed heating element. As the heater is used to heat up the water, if that has ruptured or burnt out your steam cleaner will not produce any steam. With the water tank filled and switched on the steamer should sound like a boiling kettle.
check the cap of the water tank to make sure it is correctly and securely attached to the water tank. check your water tank to make sure it is securely and correctly fitted in to the body of the garment steamer – incorrect placement of the water tank can block water from feeding in to the body and boiler of the steamer.
Check for a clogged hose or filter; unclog the hose and replace the filter. Wait 45 minutes for the vacuum to cool; then plug in the vacuum. Turn the power switch to the β€œI-On” position to start the vacuum. If the vacuum still does not start, contact Customer Service at 1-800-798-7398.
First, attach the mop pad to the mophead, then fill the reservoir with water using the filling flask. Once the steam mop is plugged in, it takes about 20 seconds for the steam to build up, and you`ll hear the mop hissing. During the first use, I found that I had to pump the handle a few times to prime the steam pump.

Once you plug it in, it starts to heat up the water. To activate the steam, you have to pump the handle up and down. We usually started mopping instead of doing the 10 to 15 pumps because with your natural mopping motion you will pump the Shark Steam Mop each time you go forward.
Mix your purchased descaler or mix 1 1/2 oz. of baking soda with one quart of clean water. Fill the empty tank with this mix. Seal the unit and turn the steam cleaner on so that it begins heating.
Not Plugged In

You will notice a blinking blue light on the front of the device when plugged in correctly. If the light fails to come on then try to plug into a different outlet.

Plug the steamer in. Steamers usually heat up fairly quickly (2-3 minutes). Allow your steamer to heat until steam begins to form. Be sure to let your steamer warm up all of the way to get the best results.
Due to the heat, there is a risk of dehydrating the body, and it is advisable not to spend longer than 10 minutes inside. It is also important to drink plenty of water beforehand. A steam room also provides the ideal environment for certain bacteria and germs to grow and spread.
Yes, you can use this mop with water only. It comes with a spray bottle of cleaning solution that you can use optionally.
A: The Shark Steam and Scrub mop is ideal for these flooring types: laminate, bamboo, hardwood, marble, tile, and stone. Surfaces/materials where the steam mop should NOT be used: Wax-polished furniture or floors, unsealed or unglazed ceramic floors, unsealed wooden and wax floors, and some unwaxed floors.
All of the filters that come with your Shark vacuum, including HEPA filters on models that include them, can be cleaned or washed for re-use.”
Do: Wipe up excess dirt before steaming. Steam mops essentially employ steam to loosen grime, which the mop head then clears away, but there`s no suction element in this appliance. This means that surface dirt will need to be vacuumed or swept up before you begin or you`ll only succeed in pushing dirt across the house.
It`s imperative that you vacuum the floor before steaming. You could alternatively sweep if you don`t have a vacuum. But good suction power will pull lint, dust, and other surface debris from the cracks, preventing them from dirtying the mop pad. Once vacuumed, your floor is ready to steam mop.
Our testing has found that all steam mops remove stains fairly well, with marginal differences, and are likely slightly better than a regular mop and bucket due to the heat and vapour produced by the steam.
To exit and restart Steam:

In the Steam client, press Steam on the top menu bar. From the menu, select the Exit option. Acknowledge any additional on-screen pop-ups or instructions. Once Steam has exited, re-launch the Steam app and sign in (if required).

Tap the mop firmly on the floor a few times to get it steaming again. My mop is still not steaming. Try running a bit of vinegar through your mop. There may be a mineral build-up from your tap water.
To prolong the life of your steam mop, we recommend using distilled water in the tank. Make sure you only add water to the tank – chemicals or cleaning solutions (including vinegar) may damage the steam mop and could be unsafe.

I loved my Shark Steam Pocket Mop, but it suddenly stopped producing steam through the mop heads. The water is heating and I can see and hear steam coming out of the actually body of the mop, but it will not go through to the head. I have thought of running white vinegar through it. Do you have any suggestions?
