How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

A few things you can check to try and solve:

Turn off the vacuum cleaner – then check if the nozzle, tube, hose or filters are blocked and/or dirty. Let the product cool down for a minimum of 2 hours on the charging stand before starting it again (stick vacuum cleaners only)

Damaged/Deteriorating Hose

One of the most common reasons that the suction may be weaker than expected is a damaged or deteriorating hose. On most Shark vacuums, there are 2 hoses to check: the short hose between the main vacuum head and the base, and the hose between the handle and the wand.

One of the easiest ways to increase vacuum cleaner suction is to empty the dust bag or container. Dust containers need to have enough space for airflow, otherwise, they could get clogged and have less suction power. Regularly check your dust compartment and empty or change it when it`s already 70-80% full.
All vacuum cleaners operate based on air flowing from the opening at the cleaning head or tool, through the vacuum cleaner and the bag and/or filter system and then out the exhaust port. This airflow is created by the vacuum motor, which also may be referred to as the suction motor.
Neglect your vacuum filter bags, and you`ll swiftly lose suction power. This, in turn, places unnecessary strain on your vacuum`s motor. Eventually, your vacuum will become a lot more difficult to maneuver, not to mention less effective at cleaning your rugs, carpeting, or other surfaces.
Can vacuum storage bags be reused? Yes. Vacuum storage bags can be used again and again.
The most common problems found in vacuum cleaners are low suction force, excessive noise, burning smell, vacuum not turn on, and overheating. These issues can be fixed by either cleaning the device or replacing some parts of the device. At times, it is best to seek a professional to fix the cleaner effectively.
To reset your shark vacuum, put the Power button in the On-Off position and keep the vacuum unplugged. If necessary, clear the hose. Once it has cooled completely, plug the vacuum back in again.
Boil old suction cups to revive them.

Take the pot off of heat and drop your suction cups in for about 30 seconds. Take them out with a pair of tongs and pat them dry on a lint-free towel. Try to use the suction cups right after you dry so they`re still warm and flexible.

Suction pressure should be kept at less than 200 mmHg in adults. It should be set at 80 mmHg to 120 mmHg in neonates. [3] The catheter size used for suction should be less than 50% of the internal diameter of the endotracheal tube.
Overcharging leads to overfeeding the evaporator with refrigerant, which leads to higher suction pressure. Another possibility is having oversized EXV causes an overfeed to the evaporate, which increases your suction pressure.
Suction is the air pressure differential between areas. Removing air from a space results in a pressure differential. Suction pressure is therefore limited by external air pressure. Even a perfect vacuum cannot suck with more pressure than is available in the surrounding environment.
The Full Dust Bag Indicator in On

It is often recommended, however, that dust bags are replaced when they`re around two thirds full or once a month. Daily and extensive use of vacuum cleaners will create a need to replace dust bags more frequently.

A full bag will reduce the effectiveness of your vacuum cleaner, as well as contribute to poor air quality. It could even cause damage to the machine itself which could be expensive or impossible to repair. The take-home message is: check vacuum bags regularly and replace them when they are more than half full!
It depends on what needs vacuuming. Carpeted areas that aren`t used by four-legged fur-friends should be vacuumed twice every week. Hardwood and tile need the least amount of upkeep and should be vacuum cleaned once per week.
We would recommend vacuuming at least once or twice a week—and more often if we have pets—with the right tools to remove dust quickly and effectively,” Patel advises.
Flushing vacuum dust down the toilet bowl will cause your toilet to be blocked, and even the pipes that lead to the sewers could be blocked. It might take a long time before you notice that the sewer pipes are blocked, and it is impossible to flush anything down the toilet.
Always empty the dust bag before washing. It is recommended to not exceed a washing temperature of 30 degrees Celsius, as the cotton could shrink. For the same reason, avoid the use of a dryer. If washing by hand, first rinse the bag in a basin filled with clean cool water.
The average life expectancy of a mid-range vacuum cleaner is about six years. You can fix or replace things like blocked filters, jammed brush rolls, frayed hoses, worn-out stick vac batteries and broken accessories yourself.
Vacuuming every day, or even a few times a day, is not going to create any long term problems.
As a general rule, if the repair is going to cost less than half the cost of a new vacuum cleaner, it`s best to go ahead and get it repaired. When the service tops half the price of a new machine, it`s probably best to invest in a newer model.
If there is a clog in the vacuum, you won`t have good suction and the vacuum won`t work. The clog can be in the vacuum head, the hose or where the hose meets the actual vacuum.
Check that the vacuum cleaner is plugged into a working power outlet and that fuses and breakers don`t need resetting. An activated thermal cut-out due to a blockage is the next most likely cause of the problem. Check for blockages in the hose and filters, and remove any obstructions that you find.
Blockage – when a vacuum cleaner becomes unusually loud, it is normally because of a blockage of some sort. This is a problem that is easily solved by turning off the cleaner, check for blockages in the pipes, and remove them. You can also check and empty the canister to remove any possible blockages there as well.

ANSWER : This is from the prongs not making a good connection causing an arch inside the plugg causing what looks like rust on the plugg. I would try snugging up the connection by squeezing the female section to get a better connection on the prongs when it is plugged in together.

Electrolux Epic 6500SR Full Bag sensor working, Does not Reset properly
ANSWER : The problem was a sticking switch that was not being reset. The vacuum on/off switch mechanism is comprised of two switches. One is the main switch that turns the vacuum on and off. The second is a shut off switch that gets tripped when the full bag sensor is engaged. This second switch is supposed to get reset when you push the on/off switch on the outside of the machine. The full bag shutoff switch was stiff and it, therefore, was taking a couple of presses of the on/off switch to move the shutoff switch back into the running position.

Dirt devil vacuum cleaner–trouble vacuuming dirt and pet hair on carpeting –is the problem with the spinning brush which contacts the floor,  not contacting the carpeting??  I thought (when I bought this vacuum) that the aforementioned brush was adjustable to various heights of carpeting.  Sometimes, it seems like nothing is being vacuumed up –unless I have just put a new bag on the vacuum… Do I need or can I replace the spinning brush on the bottom of the vacuum so it kicks up and vacuums
ANSWER : Try replacing the belt. Rubber belts stretch out after about a year.

My electrolux oxygen cannister has the “bag change” light on when there is a new bag. The light stays on when the suction power is high (to pick up small particles) and it won’t pick up, but the ight goes off when the suction power is low (to pick up big objects). I changed the hepa filter, cleaned the motor filter and changed bags, but all that didn’t help.
ANSWER : You may have a clog in the hose, and/or the inlet by the brush roll. A clog will turn on that light as well as a full bag.

Our Electrolux canister vacuum just stopped working when we were vacuuming the floor. The power does come on when the power head is attached but as soon as the power head is removed the power shuts off. I tried pressing the reset button but that doesn’t help. ANSWER : Sound like you problem is in the connection going to the power head you will see a small screw on the power nozzel where it joins to the handle take out the screw and take it a part you will see where one of the bars have been disconnect from the power.
