How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?
Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :
Check central vacuum hose for clog by plugging it into the utility valve on the front of the unit or a properly flowing wall inlet valve. Disconnect it from any accessory or wand. If no suction is present through the handle, then insert a long stiff object, such as a table knife.
Another reason the vacuum is not turning on may be that the circuit breaker may have tripped. Check the breaker on the unit and if it continues to fail it usually means the motor is going bad. Another reason can be the bad signal from the unit to the wall inlet.
The power nozzle is an integral part of your Kenmore canister vacuum cleaner for eliminating dust and allergens from your carpets. The power nozzles feature a motor that drives a brush roll to spins at high velocity to agitate dirt clinging to the deepest and thinnest fibers of your carpet or rugs.
If the vacuum cleaner stops suddenly, the filters should be checked to make sure that they are not blocked or that they require changing. This applies to both bagged and bagless models. Also check if the nozzle or hose are blocked.
They need power to be transmitted to the vacuum to create a suction force that lifts debris. So, the usual areas that cause suction loss include the wrong height setting, stuck rollers, a faulty gasket, a broken vacuum belt, a filled bag, or a clogged hose.
Check that the vacuum cleaner is plugged into a working power outlet and that fuses and breakers don`t need resetting. An activated thermal cut-out due to a blockage is the next most likely cause of the problem. Check for blockages in the hose and filters, and remove any obstructions that you find.
Large vacuum brushes
Generally speaking, there are 3 types of large nozzles, the multi-surface brush, the parquet brush, and the turbo brush.
If all you hear from the vacuum unit is a click at the when you try to start the vacuum motor from inside the house, then the motor in the unit is dead and has to be replaced. A strong odor from the shellac, which coats the copper coil windings, is an indicator that the motor is about to or has burnt out.
If your vacuum cleaner keeps turning off, this could be due to the following reasons: Blockages – check the hose and head for any obstructions. Filter – always check your filters, if these are clogged this could be causing the vacuum cleaner to work harder and lose suction power.
Putting in the incorrect amount of oil, putting in the wrong type of oil, and oil contamination can all cause the pump to not reach full vacuum. For this reason, you must check the oil regularly to ensure that it is not only clean, but also properly filled.

Electrolux Epic 6500 SR …no power to power nozzle. I think it is the switch in the handle because if I use my friend’s hose/handle (same model), my power nozzle works fine when I turn on the switch. If you think it is the switch, can I get a part for it?
That’s about the best one to narrow down a problem, however, there could also be a break in your hose wiring. Switches, hoses, and hose handle assemblies are all available at your local Aerus Electrolux store. Simply take your entire machine in so they can check it to be sure what the problem is.
.The nearest store can be found using the below site. Simply type in your zip code and press enter.
Electrolux Renaissance power nozzle turning on and off, brass pins hot
The deal with the Renny is that it runs off of circuit boards. Usually the problem of the main motor shutting on and off is caused by one of the Triac boards located inside the canister. Another problem could be the thermostat wire located on the inside of your motor itself. It’s almost never the thermostat, so the triac board is most likely the issue.
.As far as your power nozzle goes, the head eminating from the swivel body is in most cases due to an older design of the power nozzle. I would suggest investing in a new elbow assembly that includes a new swivel body as well as newer style of wiring that is proved to reduce arcing and heat production within the power nozzle.
.In some cases, fixing the power nozzle will fix the problems you are experienceing with the main motor as the arcing happening in the power nozzle can in fact turn off your machine. So investing in a new elbow assembly for your power nozzle could in fact solve the problem in its entirety.
Looking for new belt for my electrolux guardian canister vacuum power nozzle marked model n106m . have been unasble to locate an appropriate belt replacement. Any suggestions?
This company is now known as Aerus. If you can’t find their listing in the local yellow pages, follow the instructions on the folloing site.
.I highly recommend taking it in and letting their service tech replace the belt rather than do it yourself. If you choose not to, make sure you remember how you take the power nozzle apart, and pay attention to putting it back together. If not done properly, you risk breaking the belt, or worse, burning up the motor.
I just got a new machine (new to me anyway) new home hf106 model. i need to thread the bobbin on the new thead i am using and am not sure where to put the empty bobbin and how to thread it. help!
Janome New Home?
Unfortunately, Janome doesn’t put the manuals for older machines on their website. Your best bet is to contact your local Janome sewing machine dealer and ask for a “copy” of the manual from them. A photo copy should be sufficient for your purposes. Otherwise I understand you’ll have to buy a manual and wait to have it shipped.
But carefully look at your New Home. On the top toward the right there should be a fitting that looks like the bottom half of a spool. and next to it is a thing that almost looks like a mushroom.
Put the spool of thread on the spool holder, run the tread to and around the tension discs on top then thread the end through the hole in your empty bobbin. Place the bobbin on the thing that looks like a half a spool and push the whole thing to the right toward the “mushroom.”
Press start, or hit the foot feed. Wind slowly for best results.
When full, stop and move the bobbin winder back to the Left (sewing mode)
Now… hold your bobbin between your right thumb and fore finger… pull the thread a few inches… your thread should be coming off the LEFT side of the spool, if not flip it over and try again. Open the bobbin area, drop it in with the thread coming off the left to the bobbin.
hold bobbin still with right index finger and with left hand slip the tread between the bobbin race’s tension spring then if your model has a channel for the tread… follow it… otherwise pull straight back, replace the bobbin cover on the machine…..
Thread top thread then use the hand wheel to take up the bobbin thread.
(Of course this all assumes your New Home is similar to my janome or brother.) Have fun!
Be sure to get some good needles…. 😉
Power head attachment works great when plugged into the hose part of the vacuum. The problem is when I attach it to the tube for normal use there is no power. I have checked all the connections and switched the power switch on and off still no power from tube to power head.
Is there anything else I can try? Model Callisto
Try having someone turn the machine on and off while you pull the cord in and out with the cord more angled towards the on/off switch. Sometimes these models have a break in the cord rewind and will not put the power through to the motor.
Keep in mind this is repairable, and if the unit is less than 5 years old it should still be under warranty.
Good luck .
