How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :

You`ll need it—the filter prevents dust from blowing out of the top while you`re cleaning. For wet surfaces, however, you`ll need to remove the filter entirely. Liquids will damage filters, and you could even potentially ruin your vacuum if you suck up water before removing the filter.
Paper filters should never be soaked or rinsed in water.
Since the filter is made of paper, you can clean it with water, but you should let it completely dry before reuse. You can also stock up and save by purchasing this filter in a two-pack.
Filters are a critical component of a vacuum system. Together, with a good motor and effective seals, good filtration is essential to the performance of a vacuum. Filters are also important in maintaining the air quality of the space within which you`re working.
A foam sleeve is also called a wet filter. You can use this when vacuuming up wet objects or liquids, such as draining a toilet of water. Though you may not necessarily need a foam sleeve when vacuuming water, it can also protect the motor. You can usually use a shop vac for water without a filter.
A wet air filter commonly indicates a clogged condensate pan or condensate drain lines. Water is a natural by-product of a functioning air conditioner. As the system draws warm air from your home to be cooled, moisture from the air condenses on the evaporator coils and then drips into the drain pan.
The general recommendation is that HEPA filters should be replaced, not cleaned.
Washing makes a standard HEPA filter unusable, so don`t wash a filter unless the manufacturer recommends it! Some filter types are washable. For example the activated carbon filter and prefilter in our Winix can both be rinsed with water to remove dust and chemicals, and reinstalled once completely dry.
Fill a bucket with warm soapy water (dishwashing liquid is a great choice since it breaks down grease) and soak the filter for 10 minutes. After soaking, plunge the filter up and down several times to remove the dust, dirt, and oils that might still be hanging on.
Many vacuums have not one but two filters. The pre-motor or air inlet filter can be found before airflow travels past the motor. This filter is designed to catch dirt and dust to protect the vacuum cleaner`s internal parts.
Vacuum cleaners work by sucking up dirt particles. They rely on strong suction power and a good filtration system to keep your floors and other surfaces clean. To maintain your vacuum`s suction power, you`ll need to clean your vacuum frequently – including the filter.
When you use a vacuum cleaner without a HEPA filter, these particles are stirred up and put back out into the air through your vacuum`s exhaust. Regular filters can`t remove these harmful particulates and this puts the people in your home at risk.
Simple air drying in sunlight should be all your filter needs. Using a tumble dryer or other heat source is typically not recommended. It`s important that your vacuum`s filters are COMPLETELY dry when they go back in the vacuum.
Wet and Dry Vacuum Cleaners are powerful machines which, as the name suggests, can be used to vacuum up both liquids and solids. A little sturdier than your average vacuum cleaner, Wet/Dry machines can be used for a broader range of tasks, both inside and outside your home.
AC filters are designed to trap pet dander, dust, bacteria, debris, and other pollutants that may be in the air in your home and prevent them from traveling to your HVAC system and back out into the heated or cooled air. AC filter replacement is of vital importance to the maintenance of your air conditioner.
Typically, AC filters will either be located in return ducts or inside the air handler in your attic or basement. Return ducts can be in the wall, floor, or ceiling and have slatted openings where air passes through.
The short answer is yes, but it is not recommended. If you have to vacuum up broken glass, make sure to do so carefully. First, use a brush attachment to loosen any larger pieces of glass. Then, put the vacuum on the lowest setting and slowly move it over the area until all of the glass is gone.
The experts at Vacuums 360 will tell you. Liquids: Never vacuum up water or any other type of liquid with your vacuum cleaner. Mixing water with electricity is a recipe for disaster. At best, you would need vacuum cleaner repair; at worst, you could electrocute yourself.
HEPA filters are not designed to be washed and reused. Doing so will cause damage to the fibers which makes the filter ineffective and it will become void of its job. Once a filter has reached the maximum capacity of harmful particles, it will need to be replaced with a fresh, new one.
HEPA filters known as High-Efficiency Particulate Arrestance filters were originally developed to filter fine radioactive particles. A HEPA filter will filter with a minimum efficiency 99.95% of particles at 0.3 microns and 95% of particles at 0.1 microns.
It is an acronym for “high efficiency particulate air [filter]” (as officially defined by the U.S. Dept. of Energy). This type of air filter can theoretically remove at least 99.97% of dust, pollen, mold, bacteria, and any airborne particles with a size of 0.3 microns (µm).
Simply put, the biggest edge a HEPA 13 filter has over a washable type is its incredible effectiveness in purifying the air. It`s a powerful way to maintain indoor air quality and ensure that it`s safe to breathe, giving it a serious leg-up over washable filters.
A: The best filter to use for wet pick up is a foam sleeve. When picking up water containing debris; such as, glass, stone, etc., you may want to consider adding a tear resistant wet dry collection bag.
Foam filters are air cleaner filters that use polyurethane foam elements as the filtering material to trap unwanted air contaminants and particulates. Foam filters are made up of tiny interlocking cells that prevent the passage of dirt particles and distribute these throughout the entire volume of the foam.

.Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Typically the top filter of which is the sponge is washable but the HEPA filter is not, it can be brushed off and vacuum off with another vacuum, but the best filtration is to replace the HEPA filter and to wash the sponge filter, if the sponge filter get to bad then replace the sponge filter as well. Or, you can check with your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or to contact the manufacturer’s website and or phone #. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.
