Bissell 1720-5 Little Green Turbobrush Canister Vacuum

How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :

A: We only recommend using water and BISSELL deep cleaning formula in the machine, but you can clean the machine with warm water and mild detergent. Helpful?
Fill up with warm water.

Hot water loosens and softens dirt more quickly, making it easier to remove, and it also helps to kill bacteria. That`s why we recommend filling up your carpet cleaner`s tank with warm water.

Just Hot Tap Water

You can always clean up most of the mess with hot tap water. Then come back later with the proper Bissell cleaner, if needed.

Instead of having to wait for your tap water to become hot and filling the machines tank, you can store the cleaner ready to use and it will warm itself up after you plug it in and turn on the heater.
Using formula cap on the clean water tank, pour 1-2 capfuls of formula (2.5 – 5 fl oz) into the tank, for stained and heavily soiled carpets use 2 capfuls. For all other rental and full size extraction machines. Use 2.5 fl oz to each gallon of hot top water. Repeat as needed.
On the average, it will take approximately 2-4 hours for carpet and upholstery to dry after being carpet cleaned. To expedite the drying process, you will want to use a fan and increase your air circulation.
A: Yes it can be used as a vacuum without water.
If you are lucky enough to own a “steam” cleaner that dispenses detergent and sucks up stains from carpet and upholstery, like GH Seal star, Bissell Little Green Carpet and Upholstery Cleaner, by all means, use it on your mattress too.
It`s not unusual for DIY carpet cleaners to need eight or even 10 passes on a carpet before the water runs clear. This is especially true when: It has been a long time since your carpet was last deep-cleaned.
Pre-Vacuuming:

Before you begin using your Bissell Carpet Cleaner, it`s important to make sure that the surface of your carpets is free from dirt and debris. To do this, use a regular vacuum cleaner to remove any loose particles or hair before beginning your cleaning session.

Expand. BISSELL Big Green carpet cleaner rental does not have a heating element. Use hot tap water in the tank for the best cleaning results. Never boil or microwave the water to make it hotter.
Lift the tank straight up. Unscrew the cap. Decide if you`re cleaning hard floors or carpet, and fill with hot tap water to the appropriate water fill line. Then fill with the proper BISSELL formula to the appropriate formula fill line.
You don`t have to use the Bissell solution, but it is optimized for use in their machines. This means it won`t streak, leave residue, need to be rinsed, or leave buildup in your machine.
Make a cleaning solution of 1-2 teaspoons Figgy & Co. Home cleaning castile soap with 1L tap water. This is your cleaning solution to use in your Bissell. You don`t need to use more than this amount of soap.
BISSELL does not recommend using ANY cleaning products other than BISSELL specified products in our carpet washers. Our formulas are especially made with more active ingredients, contain no dyes and designed for optimum use in your BISSELL products. What is my BISSELL warranty on my machine?
A possible cause might be that the tank is not properly seated. To assure the tank is seated properly, pick it up and re-seat is so it sits snugly on the unit. If this doesn`t fix the problem, make sure the tank is assembled properly. To make sure they are both latched properly, pick the tank up by its handle.
BISSELL SpotClean ProHeat features HeatWave Technology® to maintain consistent water temperature while cleaning for heated cleaning, just add hot tap water! Lightweight design with easy-to-fill-and-empty tanks and a compact design that`s simple to store.
Yes, I`ve used cold, tap water and have had good results as well.
Not really. But you might be a little disappointed if you expect this tool to heat up its own water. Despite its name being the Bissell ProHeat, this carpet cleaner doesn`t actually heat up the water it uses to clean your floors.
Step 3: Setup Your Carpet Cleaner

After you get out your carpet cleaner, fill the clean tank to the line with hot (not boiling) tap water. Hot water does a better job cleaning than cold but, if you boil it, you run the risk of melting parts of your carpet cleaner.

Can I use cleaning formulas other than the BISSELL brand? It`s possible to use others, but we recommend against it. Our formulas contain no dyes, phosphates or optical brighteners, and will produce optimal cleaning performance when used in combination with BISSELL carpet cleaning machines.
The Little Green machine is a portable steam cleaner. It uses water and cleaning solutions to lift stains out of carpets and rugs. You can also use it on delicate fabrics and upholstery.
Mix 1 teaspoon of a liquid dishwashing detergent into 1 cup of lukewarm water and put into a spray bottle. Spray the area with the solution. (NOTE: Do not use laundry detergent or automatic dishwasher detergent, as both contain chemicals that could damage your carpet.)
It does not heat up the water. You are supposed to add hot water to it before using.

No Water My Bissell rug shampooer does not eject water or saop whan I pull the saop trigger on the handle. I checked both filters and they are clean. Then, I removed the container that sucks up the water and pulled the saop trigger, water barely came out of the tubes. I tried to clean the rug in our family room and the rug was not wet when I finished, no water coming out to clean the rug. HELP HELP HELP!!! I live in Colorado is there a Bissell repair shop near Denver, HELP!!! Thanks Dominick ema
ANSWER : Does water squirt out of the hose nozzle, if it does, then check the heater inside the handle asm. Make sure that where the tubes hook up to it are not clogged. If water doesn’t squirt, check for the seal at the bottom of the tank, it needs to be on the tank, not in the hole, this is for the soap bottle also, there is a seal on the bottom of it as well. The flow indictor cap is leaking air or maybe is too tight. If you had the top cover off, make sure that the tubes are routed right so as not to get pinched when the cover is put back on, the smart mix knob should be in the water setting and that the piston is on the bottom of the smart mix knob. Pump is bad. Try running a mix of vinegar and water to see if that unclogs the lines. Is the top cover and the base tight together in the back, sometimes the top breaks loose and it will raise up and it can’t spray, just re-fasten it down.

Need Help On which side do i put the soap and on which side to i put the water?
ANSWER : Facing the machine, the tank on the right is the solution tank, the tank on the left is the recovery tank. The solution tank is where you mix the solution and water to do your shampooing. The recovery tank is where the dirty water will vacuum to. Just a note, this model and its most of its parts are oblsolete.

Need instructions how to use Hoover Steam Vac Spin Scrub. I borrowed it from my Sister and she left it with no instruction book or letting me know how to operate it. I put water & cleaner in top tank. That’s all I know to do. Do I put any water in bottom tank? I figured not, since that is probably where the water goes when sucked up by vac. Do I leave lid on bottom tank? I usually use a commercial cleaner, and this is very different. I need to know NOW, as I must return it to her today, and I’m
ANSWER : I did have a solution in just a few minutes. Someone responded with a solution that gave me the website where I could go and print the manual in pdf, so did that, and checking instructions I was able to clean my carpets and get the shampooer back to my sister later the same day. I really appreciated your site and help I got for my problem. I found it on google. Thanks again!

I have a bissell quickwash 1950-e. I bought it Jan. 2006, and have only used it 8-10 times, I live in a very hard water area, so I though if I put some vinegar in with the cleaning solution it would get rid of any hard water deposits, unfortunatly the solution went lumpy in the tank and stoped spraying out water, I have opened it, hose clean, sprayer not blocked, x at bottom of water container when depresed water trickles out, component that opens the x when water container placed, also ran wate
ANSWER : Hard to say what is causing your problem, replacing the cap and insert on the water tank may help, part #2041111, even tho it may trickle out water when depressed, they can still be bad. The other thing would be the rod not relesing the water like it should. The big draw back to this model is Bissell has obsoleted all of its parts and most are no longer available. Might be wiser to buy new.

My sunbeam water cooler model #YLR2-5-67H3 has been sitting unplugged for 3 years. I moved, plugged it in and put a water bottle on top and water went all over the floor. I unplugged it, (read the instructions on the front, duh) and it still leaks on the floor. What should I do?

I put it over the sink, emptied it, checked the drain plug, tried running a glass full of tap water through each tap. Only the room temperature one would work.

ANSWER : One of the rubber connecting hoses inside it has dried and aged so the pressure of the water from the bottle made it burst....
You will need to open it, find the defective hose and replace it – a 2 hour relatively easy job. The hardest part will be in taking the casing apart – lots of hidden screws.

I got a used bissel 1720-9 bissel cleaner..It holds water,,and turns on but no water comes out the nozzel?? what side of tank do i put the water in also there was no instructions,,there is suction when i turn it on but no water,,
ANSWER : You can download a user guide from www.bissell.com Just type your model number in the search panel

Bissell will spray water when set to water rinse, but as soon as it is set to light, normal, or heavy cleaning, there is no spray. I have tried priming but to no avail. I put plain water in the solution tank to test without ay success. It is like it loses it’s prime whenever you try to use a solution mix. Once you set it back to water rinse only and go through the priming steps, it is OK. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
ANSWER :

Please check the following with liquid in both tanks.
.

.

– Check to see if the machine will spray through the hose with the setting on tools. If it does, the pump is fine. Continue troubleshooting.
.

Check for debris on spray tips. Clean them with a soft brush (on old tooth brush works well). The spray tips may be lifted out for easier access.
.

– Ensure the tank lid is properly attached to the bottom of the tank. To attach this properly, remove the Water Tank from the machine. Hook the front window onto the lip of the bottom container and then allow the window with lid to cover the complete tank. Secure the latch on the back of the bottom tank to the back of the tank lid. THE TANK LID CANNOT BE ATTACHED PROPERLY IF THE BOTTOM TANK IS ALREADY INSTALLED IN THE MACHINE.
– Check the bottom of the Water Tank and the Formula Tank to make sure each has a red auto-load gasket attached. Make sure the Water Tank and the Formula Tank are seated properly. Depress the x on this gasket to ensure this depresses and release back out. Liquid from the tank should dispense.
.

– Remove the handle completely and re-attach. Once the handle is re-attached, re-attempt to spray.
.

.

If the machine continues to not spray, check the following:
.

REMOVE THE COLLECTION TANK:
• Make sure the unit is set to water rinse
• Remove the smart mix bottle and fill it with water only
• Place the smart mix bottle into the collection tank reservoir
• Run the unit and try to spray. If the machine sprays, you will be able to see the water level decreasing in the smart mix bottle and you will need to replace the bottom tank. It is possibly warped.

I have a Bissell Proheat 2XTurbo carpet cleaner. No water will come out when I squeeze the trigger. I have filled the solution tank and the water tank. I read the troubleshooting in the manual and have tried turning it off for a minute and restarting and nothing. I took out both tanks and reseated them and nothing. It has sat for over a year but did not have any water in the water tank. Some solution was left in the solution tank. How can I make the water come out? HELP!
