How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Many of these belts look very similar, but there are differences, and if you try to pick the correct belt just by how it looks, you could very easily end up with an incompatible Bissell vacuum belt for your model. Along with this, some vacuums use multiple internal belts for different functions of the vacuums.
First, unplug your vacuum. Turn the vacuum over and unscrew the 3 silver Philips head screws and remove the bottom cover. Pull the brush roll straight out and slide the belt off. Inspect the brush roll by placing it on its end and spin.
The drive belt is a critical component of your vacuum that allows the brush roll to rotate and remove deep down dirt from your carpets. You should check your machines rotating floor brush and drive belt regularly for wear or damage. Replace the belt if it is broken or worn.
If too much hair, string, or lint is caught in the brushroll, the brushroll can get stuck. If the brushroll is stuck, it will put too much strain on the belt and may cause the belt to break. Remove the brushroll and clean out any debris from the bearings. After replacing the brushroll, make sure that it turns freely.
Because vacuum manufacturers do not share a standardized naming system for vacuum belts, using your vacuum`s model number is the best way to ensure an accurate belt order.
Where do I find the model/serial number of my machine? Model and serial numbers are printed on a label, which is usually located on the back or on the base of the unit.
Locate the brush reset button on the lower back right of the vacuum. Press the button to reset the brushroll To ensure the brush has been reset, plug the vacuum back into the electrical outlet.
If you find that your CleanView vacuum is hard to push, you may need to adjust the height adjustment dial. The highest setting should be used for high pile and most shag carpet.
A possible cause might be that the tank is not properly seated. To assure the tank is seated properly, pick it up and re-seat is so it sits snugly on the unit. If this doesn`t fix the problem, make sure the tank is assembled properly. To make sure they are both latched properly, pick the tank up by its handle.
Your dirty water tank may not be secured tightly. Check the rubber tab on the dirty water tank and press firmly on all edges to secure it tightly. The accessory hose door also needs to be closed securely. Check the door and make sure it is locked in place.
Put the Dirt Tank back on the vacuum. Insert the bottom first, then push back until you hear a click. You`ll then need to remove the tank lid by twisting counterclockwise.
Introduction. After using your Bissell Swivel Rewind Pet vacuum cleaner for awhile, the vacuum brush might stop spinning. In most cases, the problem comes from the eruption of the belt. The motor pulley of the vacuum cleaner makes the belt turn, which allows the brush roll to turn and do the cleaning.
You should replace the belts on your vacuum at least every three to six months if the vacuum is regularly used. This is very important for proper cleaning.
Insert your belt through the left-side loops first.
Take the end of your belt and insert it into your belt loops with the loop on the front left side of your pants. Thread the strap end through each loop, pulling the belt through as you go. Once you reach the last loop, buckle your belt.
You may have stalled the brush motor. To reset, turn off and unplug, then plug back in and turn on. The brush roll may have lodged debris or other entanglements keeping the brush from rotating. To fix, you`ll need to remove the brush roll to inspect.

Windtunnel belt I have a new Hoover Windtunnel canister. The belt keeps coming off. It happened a couple weeks ago (several times after putting the belt back on) so I assumed I might need a new belt as it might have dried out at the store. Hi my proheat bissell 7901 stopped pumping water to the floor, but it pumps water from the hand hose. I read the manual and followed how to check belt and the flat belt on right side of shampooer is fine and I turned on and it turns and so do the brushes at the bottom of the machine. I was reading online and I guess there’s two belts on this machine? where can I find the other belt to see if it needs replacing. I guess it’s a ribbed belt? that is the water pump belt?
ANSWER : Just taken ours apart with the same problem… found it was caused by the 2 halves of the main casing coming apart in the area where the upright pedal release is. I found this to be due to the upper casing having broken in 2 places – the bottom of the screw wells..This means that the water tank cannot exert sufficient pressure on the valve to release the water..Only solution is a new top cover assembly

I’m using (or WAS using) a Eureka ”the boss” model 8803. The belt broke, no biggie, so I replaced it with a Eureka model U belt, the problem is when I put the new belt on and turn on the vaccuum, the belt breaks again. I am also having trouble getting the brush roller to fit right when the belt is in place. I can’t find any sharp edges that would cut the belt,nor can I find where any small bits may have broken. Anyone have a solution for me?
ANSWER : First, make sure you have the right belt, second, i am thinking that you are not lineing the roller up right, it will only fit one way. look at the ends of the roller and the grooves where it slides in, you should be able to see clearly how it goes.

Hoover WindTunnel Self-Propelled V Belt
ANSWER : I had this same problem with the V belt on my Hoover Vaccuum..
.There are three (3) basic things that will cause the brush roll not to spin..
.1. When handle is upright, brush roll is OFF..2. When switch is set for HARD surface, brush roll is OFF..3. Broken/worn FLAT belt or V Belt, brush roll will not spin.

.I noticed that the brush roll was not spinning when my vacuum was set for CARPET. After removing the cover I noticed that the V belt was loose, I thought the belt was worn so I purchased a correct replacement belt and installed it, but the new belt was also loose and when I turned the large flat belt pulley it did not turn the V belt pulley at the same time..
.I double checked the surface setting and I had the vacuum switch set for carpet, but still when I released the handle out of the upright position the brush roll would still not spin..
.My aggravation finally led me to this posting on FixYa’s website..
.The first thing I did was checked the screw to the left of the V belt as suggested by ejmjr5 and this did nothing to solve the problem or create more tension on the V belt, even when the upright handle was not in the upright position..
.After playing around with the surface setting control switch/nob I notice that when I moved the switch out of the HARD surface setting and over to CARPET, I had thought that the switch was set for CARPET as it visually appeared, but I was not pushing the switch over hard enough to click it into the CARPET setting mode..
.VOILA, the brush roll now spins correctly even though the V belt seams to be too loose for the pulley..
.You really have to force the switch into the CARPET setting. Be sure that you hear the switch/nob click into place..
.Now you can effectively clean up after that hangover of a party!.

Hoover windtunnel t series belt is loose- roller brush doesnt turn.
Its brand new belt is slipping. we bough new belts and putthem on same problem. Can not find solutio in manual.
Is the belt supposed to go around the “metal pulley”. I know it goes around the little metal motor thing, then thru the guide and around the brush.
What is the metal pulley??? Is is the larger round silver thing between the guide and roller?

ANSWER : I also have a loose belt and have bought additional belts but have the same problem. I put the it around the metal rotor and around the brush roller a shown by he Hoover video, and it is loose.

Is there any way to repair or replace the belt GUIDE on the inside of the belt compartment of a ’97 Hoover Wind Tunnel (not self-propelled)? It became twisted when a belt broke and now the belt rubs against it and sounds really weird, and I’m sure new belts will continue to break..
