The Dyson DC17 is an upright cleaner launched in October 2006 in the US. Although visually similar to the DC14, it contains new technologies. The first upgrade is the use of Dyson`s Level 3 Root Cyclone. This system incorporates 11 cyclones to more efficiently filter sand and dust particles out of the airstream.
Wash filters in cold water only (don`t use detergent or wash in a dishwasher or washing machine). Rinsing under the water supply then gently squeezing the water out of the filter. Repeat until the water runs clear.
The Dyson Animal includes two washable filters that never need to be replaced. The filters remove allergens and other particles as small as cigarette smoke while you vacuum to expel clean exhaust air. The Dyson filter is located in the ball-shaped base of the vacuum.
On most Dyson upright vacuums however, the filter is located underneath the dust cup. To access the filter in this machine, you`ll have to completely remove the dust receptacle and open the cover near the base of the sweeper. If you have a smaller machine like the Dyson ball, the filter is located inside of the ball.

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Typically the top filter of which is the sponge is washable but the HEPA filter is not, it can be brushed off and vacuum off with another vacuum, but the best filtration is to replace the HEPA filter and to wash the sponge filter, if the sponge filter get to bad then replace the sponge filter as well. Or, you can check with your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or to contact the manufacturer’s website and or phone #.
