How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?
Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :
You can use the latest models of vacuum cleaners as blowers as well. They come integrated with a blower function along with their standard suction power. Using them as a blower will help unsettle dust particles that usually get stuck in unreachable areas of your house, such as the top edges of doors and windows, etc.
Why does my Shop-Vac® wet dry vac blow dust back into my room? The dust isn`t being stopped by the filter and is being exhausted out of the blower port and back into the air. This can be caused by a hole in the filter, the filter not being properly installed, or the dust being too fine for the filter.
After removing the cover to the motor, you can replace the motor.
If you need a vacuum for heavy-duty use such as your woodworking shop, then a shop vac will do. For simple home cleaning, you should go for the home vacuum. If you need one for both uses, then you do not need to buy two, a shop vacuum can multitask.
A blower uses high-pressure air jet flow to blow the leaves away, while a leaf vacuum uses high suction power to suck the leaves inside the collection bag.
Blowers use twin rotating rotors to displace air inside a tank, while rotary vane pumps compress air to create a void.
Unlike regular vacuums, shop vacs are durable and capable of handling dust, debris, and heavy objects that need to be picked up. They have powerful suction and they do not throw dust and other irritants into the air the way that regular vacuums or sweeping might.
A: You need to use a filter capable of catching the dust and dirt you are cleaning up. When you are picking up fine dust you need a HEPA or high efficiency cartridge filter, a cartridge filter with a HEPA collection bag or a cartridge filter with a high efficiency disposable filter bag.
As a general rule, if the repair is going to cost less than half the cost of a new vacuum cleaner, it`s best to go ahead and get it repaired. When the service tops half the price of a new machine, it`s probably best to invest in a newer model.
If all you hear from the vacuum unit is a click at the when you try to start the vacuum motor from inside the house, then the motor in the unit is dead and has to be replaced. A strong odor from the shellac, which coats the copper coil windings, is an indicator that the motor is about to or has burnt out.
Most Shop-Vacs will only pull about 1.75″ of Hg (provided the filter is clean) but this low pressure air in your bags could be a lot of volume and waste a lot of core vacuum time by the pump.
You can capture most nuisance dust with a standard shop vacuum and a few accessories. We`ll show you how to assemble simple, inexpensive dust collectors that`ll suck up most of that sawdust before it gets all over everything.
Remove the shop vac motor from the base. Take the hose out of the vacuum port on the shop vac. Insert the hose in the exhaust port of the shop vac. Turn the shop vac on, and use the hose as a blower.
Why is the vacuum is blowing dusty air out of the back? Simple: the bag or canister is full and the vacuum has nowhere to store the dust it is collecting. Empty the canister or bag. If that doesn`t fix it, the vacuum filter needs to be cleaned or changed.
An air blower uses a rotating impeller/rotor to create a vacuum. This vacuum causes air to rush into the blower. The air enters the centre of the impeller and is divided by the rotating blades. Centrifugal force increases the speed of the air and volume of the air stream within the housing.

I have an old Shop Vac model 3331.5. This is a 12 gallon 1.5 hight peak shop vac with a detachable blower. After many years I decided to use the blower feature, but have lost the lost the manual. Question; how do I attach the hoses to the blower? The motor has that cap on it the direct the flow of air in one direction and the wide hoses do not fit over it. I may be missing a part, but I would think the directional cap would have to come off anyway.
ANSWER : Remove the cap that directs the air and insert the hose in there.

ANSWER : Well, good news, you don’t need a bag! The trash just settles to the bottom of the bucket and you just dump it out.

I think I need to replace the main battery in my small floor vac – the one that can be hand held like a dust buster or work like a small floor vac. I need to know how to remove the battery and replace it with what kind of new battery..
ANSWER : I see my sense of humor is not appreciated…it was only a joke. Anyway, here is what you do: First, slide the battery cover off the bottom of the hand held unit. Remove the battery from the motor housing by pressing the tab on connector “A”; this releases the battery from the motor housing. Plug the new battery (LC-R064R2P) into connector “A”. When installing the battery the wires have to go in first and they must be placed in front of the battery or you’ll never get the battery cover back on.

My older Dyson DC14 (the purple one) early model with a clutch on the beater bar belt needs a clutch replacement. The bar has been cleaned and there are no worn or damaged parts so I conclude that the clutch at the motor end of the belt needs to be replaced. I can find the part online but no instructions on how to disassemble the vacuum to get to and replace it. Dysons only advice is to give me the address and phone of the nearest service center. Can you help me?
ANSWER : Have a look at www.dysonmedic.com which has some very useful info on dismantling and repairing Dysons.
.
.Although this site doesnt actually cover the DC14 yet, the DC14 is very similar to the DC07 so as regards dissassembling the machine, and replacing the clutch, my experience is that the DC07 info will enable you to do the job.
