Power. Most people should only require a 3.5 to 5 peak horsepower motor for their wet/dry vac. If it can suction up water and sawdust, you`re probably good to go.
The RIDGID 18-Volt 9 Gal. cordless wet/dry vac takes cordless convenience and puts it in a full-sized form. Cordless power is perfect for car cleaning, jobsite debris or anywhere that`s away from an outlet.
A vacuum cleaner gets power from a regular electrical socket, with the average upright design requiring between 450 and 3000 watts. However, the most often used versions use around 1400 watts, equivalent to approximately 1.4 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity each hour.
As a central vacuum manufacturer we use the 120 and 240 volt motors. The 120 and 240 motors will not be adversely affected if used with lower voltages. The 120 volt motor will be fine on 110 volts. Likewise, a 240 volt motor will be fine on 220 or 230 volts.
VAC (Volts Alternating Current) is a measure of the strength of the alternating electric field that drives the flow of electrons in AC electrical systems.
Most upright cleaners are seven to 12 amps. Many canister models are 12 amps. The maximum allowable amps that can be plugged into a household outlet is 12 amps. So even if your vacuum has the highest possible amps, it does not mean that is is necessarily the better the vacuum.
Air watts are a European test standard (IEC60312) for vacuums. An upright vacuum cleaner should be around 100 air watts and a cylinder vacuum cleaner needs to be about 220 air watts.
Central vacuum makers, as well as some other vacuum cleaner manufacturers, have been using the air watts specification to attempt to rate the vacuum cleaner`s output rather than input power. Air watts are calculated using the formula, (Air Flow (in CFM) x Vacuum (in inches of water lift))/8.5 = Air Watts.
How many watts does a Vacuum Cleaner use? The average Vacuum Cleaner uses 818 watts. Your devices wattage may be different depending on the brand, size, or other factors.
For most people, 500 watts is going to be a great option. Honestly, you`re going to be able to hit top speeds of 20 miles an hour by just pushing the throttle, and the acceleration you get, I`ve seen lots of people test ride these e-bikes for the first time, and you can see those videos on our YouTube channel.
1 kWh equals one hour of electricity usage at a rate of 1 kW, and thus the 2 kW appliance would consume 2 kWh in one hour, or 1 kWh in half an hour. The equation is simply kW x time = kWh.
As such: 150W x 4 hours = 600 Wh per day. To convert that into kilowatt-hours, we use this formula: watts x time (hours) ÷ 1,000 = kWh. So, 600 Wh ÷ 1,000 = 0.6 kWh.
Do vacuum cleaners use a lot of electricity? Vacuum cleaner energy use varies. A major driver of vacuum cleaner power usage is the motor. Commonly available vacuum models have motors that use between 500 and 3,000 watts of energy, with the average machine using about 1,400 watts.
A 240-volt outlet is a power line with two 120 volt lines (Phase A & Phase B) with an acceptable range of voltage from 228 volts to 252. Historically, 240 has been referred to as 220, because the voltage range starts in the two-twenties.
A standard 120V outlet contains a 120 volt wire and a neutral wire, and preferably a grounding wire. A 240V outlet has two 120 volt wires and a neutral wire.
A Carling AC rating is followed by “VAC”, for example 125VAC is 125 volts AC.
Amps Formula

3600 Watts / 240 Volts = 15 Amps.

For safety reasons, it is always recommended to go for a somewhat larger battery – generally, regardless of the battery chemistry 12V 100Ah battery is the smallest battery recommended for the 12V 1000W power inverter.
The inverter draws its power from a 12V or 24V battery (preferably deep-cycle), or several batteries wired in parallel. The battery will need to be recharged as the power is drawn out of it by the inverter. The battery can be recharged by running the car or lorry motor, or a generator, solar panels, or wind turbine.
Under normal household use, the useful life of a 18v NiCd battery is 150-200 full charge cycles before the user will feel that the battery should be replaced. Battery life may vary depending upon factors, including but not limited to, charging conditions, battery maintenance, storage, and environmental conditions.
18V and 20V Max batteries both use 5 cells per row to reach 18 nominal volts. Each cell contributes 3.6 volts (4.0 volts Max) and the series connection between them brings it to a total of 18 volts (5 x 3.6).
You could, only if the battery pack would lock in place. It is designed not to, because running an 18V drill on 24V, while prefectly possible, even providing a slightly higher torque, would make the drill run hotter, in a more stressed out manner, eventually burning the motor windings due to higher current flow.
Some people confuse volts with the power rating of a vacuum. Volts is related to the battery being used and does not affect the suction ability of the vacuum.

I do not have my users manual and have never vacuumed wet with this vacuum. How do I change it from a dry to wet vacuum.
Can’t find my manual and I need to use the shop vac for water in basement, do I have to change the filter or what
lost my user manual never used it to pick up water. need to know how to puit it in wet mode i want to clean the dirty water out of my pool.
ANSWER : .Vacuuming Liquids
.1. When picking up small amounts of liquid
.the filter may be left in place.
.2. When picking up large amounts of liquid
.we recommend that the filter be
.removed. If the filter is not removed, it
.will become saturated and misting
.may appear in the exhaust.
.3. After using the vac to pick up liquids,
.the filter must be dried to reduce the
.risk of possible mildew and damage to
.the filter.
.4. When the liquid in the drum reaches a
.predetermined level, the float mechanism
.will rise automatically to cut off
.airflow. When this happens, turn off
.the vac, unplug the power cord, and
.empty the drum. You will know that the
.float has risen because vac airflow
.ceases and the motor noise will
.become higher in pitch, due to
.increased motor speed.
.IMPORTANT: To reduce the risk of damage

Unbeknownst to me, someone took the bag out of my Kenmore Progressive vacuum and failed to replace it. I have been vacuuming without a bag for months, and today the vacuum stopped sucking. When I opened up the front to replace the bag, tons of dirt and dust came pouring out. I thoroughly cleaned the vacuum, put in a new bag, but still no sucking power. Just dust coming from the rear vents where one of the filters is. Is the vacuum ruined, or is it a simple solution of buying a new filter?
ANSWER : Sounds like you need to buy a new motor. All that grit and dust will ruin a motor and I’m surprised it lasted as long as it did.
.This is where a vacuum that won’t run without a bag would have been nice. (Aerus for one)

How to replace power cord on Hoover WindTunnel upright vacuum
ANSWER : The aforementioned solutions probably never even attempted this fix on this model. The handle does NOT need to come off. but the 5 screws on the front housing DO: 2 above the light and 3 below it. Then to get the colored housing off you need to access 2 screws on the underside that are beneath the agitator roller. To do that, obviously the 4 screws holding the bottom plate need to come off too. Here’s a link to a schematic that might help as you attempt to do this, (assuming that you still do!) http://www.elkypro.com/hoops2005/vacuum_parts/hoover/U5461-900.html

Once you have the main body housing cover off, then you can access the 2 screws atop of each trunnion cover that holds the motor assembly cover halves together. If you’ve made it this far, then gently pry apart the motor halves keeping even as yo do. Now you can see all the wiring necessary to cut and splice. Happy cord replacing! As for me, I am headed for the store, as I am not so sure I can remember how to get the darn thing put back together. But it was fun taking it apart!
