How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :

There are two filters in your vacuum. One is the Pre-Motor Filter, and the other is the Post Motor Filter.
Your machine comes with two filters. To locate the Pre-Motor filter, press the tank release button and remove the dirt tank. To access the filter, press the Filter Button found on the front of the tank and remove the foam filter from the tray. The pre-motor filter can be hand washed in warm water.
It is the filter`s job to trap dirt and other particles from being expelled back into the air. Even so, filters are probably one of the most ignored aspects of a vacuum cleaner, especially when it comes to their maintenance and care.
Our line of air purifiers have HEPA filters, too. BISSELL air400, air320, air220 all have three stages of filtration, with a pre-filter, an activated carbon filter and a HEPA air filter.
These filters can be hand washed in warm water. A mild detergent may also be used. Close the lid and return the tank back to the vacuum. Press firmly until you hear a “click”.
It is recommended to clean or replace your filters every 3-6 months depending on use. This filter is washable – Clean by hand washing in warm water. A mild detergent may be used if desired.
ULPA Filter Vacuum

So, if you`re looking for the absolute best in indoor air quality, vacuums with ULPA filters are the best on the market. ULPA stands for `ultra-low particulate air,` and vacuums with these filters are perfect in environments that demand an extremely high standard of cleanliness and hygiene.

The life of your filters depends on how often you run your air purifier and the air conditions in your home, however we still recommend you change them every 6 months. You can order new filters on BISSELL.com.
If you`re using vacuums or air purifiers with HEPA filters at home or the office, it`s important to keep them maintained. Check the HEPA filters every two weeks. On average, HEPA filters have to be replaced every six months. It may be more or less depending on how often you use it and how contaminated the area gets.
Vacuum filtration (or suction filtration) is an indispensable technique for distillation, extraction, and purification. Compared with traditional, gravity-assisted filtration, adding a vacuum to your system greatly increases speed and efficiency in your laboratory.
Heavy industrial vacuums: The standard main filter is polyester and retains 99.1% efficiency at 1.5 microns. The star-shaped pleats of the filter add surface area, which lowers the air-to-cloth (ATC) ratio and increases the efficiency of the filter.
HEPA filters are also not designed to be washed. Washing a true HEPA filter can easily damage it so that it can no longer filter properly. Plus, the amount of particles washing it will remove will be low anyway.
Are HEPA filters eco friendly? The production of HEPA filters requires energy and resources, which can have a negative impact on the environment. Additionally, the disposal of HEPA filters can contribute to waste management and environmental pollution.
A: Hi Valarie – there`s no ozone emission from our air purifiers.
Filters in residential settings should be changed every 6 to 12 months. Reverse osmosis, membranes, and additional alkalisers only need to be changed ever 2 years or 4 years, respectively.
It is an acronym for “high efficiency particulate air [filter]” (as officially defined by the U.S. Dept. of Energy). This type of air filter can theoretically remove at least 99.97% of dust, pollen, mold, bacteria, and any airborne particles with a size of 0.3 microns (µm).
Foam Filters: Usually circular, foam filters can be cleaned with soap and water. Pleated Paper or Synthetic Cartridges: These inexpensive filters are often not washable but you can clean them several times before replacing them.
With the dirt tank open, reach up and twist the inner cyclone clockwise to remove it. It can be wiped clean with a damp cloth. Then push the filter button on the handle to check the pre-motor filter. Remove that filter and hand wash with warm water and a mild detergent.
What is better 1-micron or 5-micron? Generally speaking, a 5 micron filter is better for removing larger particles from your water such as sediment and rust, while a 1 micron filter is better for capturing smaller particles like bacteria and cysts.
Yes, if you choose an effective air purifier, it will likely support your ongoing wellness at home – and in some cases, prevent problems from arising. `The contaminants in our home are small enough to be inhaled. Some are so tiny that they can bypass the lungs and head straight into the bloodstream.
How frequently does your air purifier need an air filter replacement? It`s recommended that you change your filter every 12 months. If you run your air purifier frequently or are experiencing a lot of indoor air pollution, you may need to change the filter more often.
HEPA filters remove more than 99.9% of the particles from the air stream that passes through them. These particles can be allergens, viruses, bacteria, chemical compounds, dust and many more. This is of great help for people with asthma, allergies or those who suffer from respiratory problems.
Vacuum bags & filters remove dirt, dust, dander, airborne microbes and other allergens that cause breathing difficulties or aggravate respiratory issues, such as asthma.
Unplug the vacuum, remove the vacuum bag, and place a piece of duct tape over the suction opening. For dirt and residue, gently wash the vacuum cleaner bag with soapy water, rinse, and let air dry. If the bag is machine washable, throw it in the washer instead.

Our problem with our Rainbow E Series is that it has sucked water up and blown it out through the lower part of the hepa filter, making the filter wet and dirty. This had happened before and the repair shop did not see any problems with the machine, so we replaced the filter and were very carful not to overfill the tank and to change the water often. Now it has happened again and ruined another filter. Do you know what could be causing this issue? Can the filter be cleaned or will a new one be

.Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Typically the top filter of which is the sponge is washable but the HEPA filter is not, it can be brushed off and vacuum off with another vacuum, but the best filtration is to replace the HEPA filter and to wash the sponge filter, if the sponge filter get to bad then replace the sponge filter as well. Or, you can check with your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or to contact the manufacturer’s website and or phone #. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

ANSWER : This isn’t really a problem that can be fixed here on Fixya rather than advise you as a buyer. You’d have to contact the people/company you have purchased the filters from and take it up with them regarding the postage. Hope you get a decent reply.

Filter I bought this Hoover a few years ago– just now about to use it first time. I cannot find my user’s manual and don’t know how to change the filter– or to clean it or whatever I am supposed to do with it. Also, there is a handle on one side of the unit that seems to be attached to an empty chamber or canister kind of thing. It looks like it should pull out, but it does not budge. I really would like to have a manual, but can’t seem to find one. Is there a similar model that is still

I had used Dyson DC08 to **** out a wet car carpet. A few days later when using the V/C, there was a burning smell. Subsequently I washed the flexible hose, changed the pre-filter and post filter , but I wrongly put the pre-filter in the spot for the post filter. When the V/C was next used, there was again a burning smell and sparks. The filters were switched, but the V/C would not re-start.
What shall I do?
