How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :

A clog is a common (perhaps the most common) reason that a Dyson unit loses suction. They have a number of choke points in the airflow paths. Some considerations follow: Hoses: because of their often rough inner surfaces and inevitable bends, hoses are prime locations for clogs.
Within the 3.5kg machine is 262AW suction power1, to ensure no loss of suction. HEPA filtration traps 99.99% of particles down to 0.1 microns in size2, for scientific proof of a deep clean. Our latest vacuum also includes a single-button power control – removing the need to hold a trigger as you clean.
The Dyson DC07 Animal has been designed specifically with pet owners in mind. It comes complete with a HEPA filter, a 3.5 litre bag capacity and a clutch that makes it perfect for all floor types.
Vacuum cleaners are fairly simple machines. They need power to be transmitted to the vacuum to create a suction force that lifts debris. So, the usual areas that cause suction loss include the wrong height setting, stuck rollers, a faulty gasket, a broken vacuum belt, a filled bag, or a clogged hose.
The suction control slider is located at the front of the cleaner head. The ball located between the bin and the cleaner head.
What is a Good Suction Power for a Vacuum Cleaner? An upright cordless vacuum cleaner should have at least 100 air watts to effectively clean a variety of floor surfaces, with the best Samsung vacuum cleaner reaching up to 210W*.
The suction power is measured in Watt (W) and is typically between 250 W and 450 W for machines with 1 motor. The suction power is to be measured at the end of the tube of a complete vacuum cleaner (i.e. with tube, hose and filters – but without nozzle).
The Dyson DC07 was introduced in 2001 with brand new Root Cyclone technology.
The Dyson digital motor V7 spins at up to 110,000rpm – five times faster than a Formula One car engine. Producing up to 100 Air Watts, it generates powerful suction.
One of the easiest ways to increase vacuum cleaner suction is to empty the dust bag or container. Dust containers need to have enough space for airflow, otherwise, they could get clogged and have less suction power. Regularly check your dust compartment and empty or change it when it`s already 70-80% full.
We have two possible ways of adjusting the pressure in a vacuum system: first, by changing the pumping speed (altering the speed of the pump or throttling by closing a valve); second, through admission of gas (opening a valve).
Which Dyson vacuum is the most powerful? In terms of sheer suction power, the Dyson Ball Animal 3 Extra is the most powerful option in Dyson`s current lineup, offering 290 AW, or air watts, of suction power. Among the brand`s cordless stick vacuums, the Dyson V15 Detect is the most powerful, with a rating of 230 AW.
Dyson Cyclone V10 cord-free vacuums are engineered to make a pulsing sound to let you know if something is preventing airflow from passing through the machine. The LED blockage indicator will also continue to flash for up to 1 minute.
We recommend replacing your air purifier filter every 12 months. That`s because over time, filters can get clogged with pollutants, and even let unpleasant odors back into the room.
Max(4000 PA): It can deeply clean the place that needs cleaning, dust cleaning is up 80%, garbage collection is up 30%, and the cleaning times are up to 80 minutes.
Next, you need to consider suction power. Typically expressed in Pa (pascals), this is a measurement of how powerful the motor is inside a robot vacuum. A good number to look for here is around 2,000Pa or above for an effective clean.
Air watts are a European test standard (IEC60312) for vacuums. An upright vacuum cleaner should be around 100 air watts and a cylinder vacuum cleaner needs to be about 220 air watts.
220 air watts. Ideal for pet hair.
The basic formula F=PxA is used to calculate the force of the suction cup with: F is holding force (or the vacuum force of the suction cup) P is pressure.
The power of the suction motor is one of the most important aspects regarding the performance of a vacuum cleaner. It is the suction motor which takes the electrical power from the power source and converts it into mechanical power in the form of suction with air flow.

Dyson V15 Detect

The Dyson V15 has a whopping 230 air watts, which is the most powerful suction we have ever seen. Thanks to over 60 minutes of runtime and three different power modes, the cordless vacuum achieves excellent cleaning results.

The Samsung Jet 70 Pet Cordless Stick Vacuum is your go-to for everyday cleaning. Featuring 150 Air Watts* of suction power and a dust filter that traps around 99.999%** of microdust, you`ll vacuum the many surfaces of your home with incredible precision.
The Dyson V11`s vacuum motor is also more powerful, delivering 185 Air Watts of suction power in Boost mode, up from the V10`s 151 Air Watts of power in Max mode.

Dyson vacuum turned off while vacuuming – Dyson DC07 Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum
ANSWER : Hi There,
Assuming if you leave it for an hour and come back to it that it works again you have an airflow issue. This machine will cut out if the motor gets too hot. The likely causes are 1. Filters – take them out and give a good clean once dry you can try them again. 2. Blockage – Remove your u-bend and the blockage removal access check for an obstruction.3. Radix assembly is blocked. I will post a link to a YouTube video showing how to address this as it is a bit more difficult.
If your machine wont turn back on after a rest then your options are 1. Cord problem (most likely)2. Switch (unlikely)3. Motor

I have a video for just about all these problems on my youtube channel under VacuumSpot or VacuumSmart. If this is a step in the right direction please lay a thumbs up on the videos 🙂

My dyson seems to have lost suction? – Dyson DC07 Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum
ANSWER : If the usual clog clearing and filter cleaning doesn;t work-> I love the Dyson (DC07), but after 7 or 8 years it lost suction and needed some attention beyond filter cleaning. After much online research I found the few bits of advice that for me were the holy grail. After all of the standard stuff, clear clogs, clean filters etc….. In this order: 1) Remove & empty the canister, ***important****-leave the canister bottom lid open. 2) remove the three star screws at the top of the canister. It’ll take a bit of pressure to pull the top up, there’s a rubber seal. When you pull it up there will be a rod running down into the canister, leave it be, just pull up the top high enough to clear out any debris. 3) Put the top back on aligning the screws, when you lower it make sure the bottom of the rod engages with the hole at the bottom center of the canister, this is why you left the bottom lid open. Put the three star screws back in. 4) Turn the canister upside down, lid open, and keeping in mind this is thin plastic, gently tug upwards on the four fins that surround the bottom rubber seal. This part is held in by friction, so work your way around the four fins gently pulling until you work the ring they’re connected to free. This will give you access to the inside of the canister. 5) remove the round perforated section by tugging upwards on it, set it aside with the fin part. 6) Take the canister to a laundry tub or large sink and holding it bottom up fill it with hot/warm water. Grasping the center section shake it vigorously and turn it upside down while shaking and a bunch of sh*t will come out. Repeat several times. 7) Dry thoroughly, you might use a hairdryer held to the center tube, but only if you can switch off the heat and use air only. Make sure its 200% dry, water will kill your machine 8) clean and replace the round perforated section 9) replace the fin section, I’d suggest pulling the round rubber part off of the fin part and setting it in place on the canister first, then follow with the plastic fin part. If you don’t do it this way the rubber won’t seat properly and the bottom lid won’t close. 10) Close the lid, replace the canister, and staaaaaart suckin like it’s brand new.
