If your vacuum cleaner has lost suction power, it`s time to empty the container. Vacuum cleaners come with various foam or mesh filters. These might get clogged over time if not cleaned or replaced properly. This will cause your vacuum to lose suction.
This usually occurs if the dust cannister is too full or the filters are clogged and the motor wasn`t getting enough cooling air passing over it.
Check that the vacuum cleaner is plugged into a working power outlet and that fuses and breakers don`t need resetting. An activated thermal cut-out due to a blockage is the next most likely cause of the problem. Check for blockages in the hose and filters, and remove any obstructions that you find.
The most common cause of loss of suction is that the filters have become blocked. They may require cleaning or replacing. Another cause could be that the vacuum cleaner hose is blocked.

Turn the unit on and feel the suction at the end of the hose handle. If there is no or low suction, then the clog is in the hose. You can remove the clog by running a long, stiff object through the hose, such as a butter knife, starting at the wall end.

Dust containers need to have enough space for airflow, otherwise, they could get clogged and have less suction power. Regularly check your dust compartment and empty or change it when it`s already 70-80% full.

No suction My Hoover Wind Tunnel vacuum runs but there is no suction. The last two or three times I used it, it shut itself off after having a burning smell. ANSWER : Sounds like your motor bearings are going bad. This is generally indicated by the motor overheating, and the heat transferring out through the motor pulley, which is where the belt attaches. So, your machine is overheating, melting the belt, and then tripping the thermal cutout. When it cools and you restart it, the belt is no longer functioning due to being melted, and this would make it not pick up on carpet. If you look at the motor pulley and it is turning blue: this is indicative of overheating.
.The other possibility is that there is a clog, which is also causing your motor to overheat; so before you throw it away make sure all of your air pathways are clear.

Hello, I have a problem with my Eureka Powerline bagged upright vacuum. It has a 12 amp motor and is model #4352, Type D. It was probably bought new in 1998. My problem is, while vacuuming today the motor seemed to slow down all of the sudden and then began smelling like burning rubber. I shut the vacuum off to check for blockages but could not find anything blocked. When I then turned it on again it runs but seems to only be running at 1/2 the motor speed and still has the rubber buring smell.
ANSWER : It sounds like a rubber sealing in the motor has come loose and is being constantly rubbed against the walls of the motor with would cause the smell and loss of motor speed caused by the fricton of rubber against the rod so if you can get to the motor try to open it and see if you can get it if not take it to a small engine repair service hope this was helpful:)

I purchased a brand new Eureka Pet vacuum, sorry don’t know exact name but it the one that has the self cleaning duster on it. Last night I used the vacuum on my carpet, it was working fine until I accidently sucked up the corner of a scarf that was hanging off a couch. I shut the vacuum off, pulled out the scarf and and resumed vacuuming. Much to my dismay the suction on the vacuum had ceased. Can you tell me if there is a reset button on the vacuum? ANSWER : If the motor is running, there should be suction. Possible problems depend on whether it’s a canister or upright and are:
.A clog in the hose, UR or canister. Detach hose. Drop small coin in one end and lift hose causing it to roll out the other. If it does, no clog in hose. Drop same coin into hose opening on power head. If it rolls out, no clog in PN.
.Broken fan blades, UR. Needs to be taken to shop for repair/replacement.

We have a Kenmore Progressive Model 116 Upright bagged vacuum with Hepa filter. It’s at least a couple years old. For quite some time now when ever we use the vacuum the vacuum motor will shut off nafter about 5 min. of use. We then need to let it sit for awhile and then we can run it again for another 5 min. The bag has been change. Any one have any ideas how to fix this?
ANSWER : I suspect that you have a restriction. The motor sounds like the thermal break is stopping the motor before damage, due to heat.

Have a Centralux Aerus about 5 years old. Don’t see a model number. There is suction but beater brush quit working. Was using for a few minutes, shut it off for a few minutes, turned it back on and suction only. Tried the reset button also. Tried the sidekick attachment and it works fine. There was no smell like something was hot. Belt is fine. Are there any fuses or anything else to try? This vacuum cleaner has not really been used that much, it is hard to believe the motor would need replaced
ANSWER : There probably is a loose wire in the handle near the switch or a wire off near the swivel elbow near the vac power head. With the right fastener tool to remove some screws you can fix it yourself

Motor My vacuum cut out as I was using it. After some experimenting I found that the circuit reset had gone off. When I tried a second time while near the motor , there was a flash and again the motor shut off. At this time I am guessing that the motor is faulty. The central vacuuming is approximately 12 years old.

I purchased a Eureka C4910 last year and have a question that I am hoping you can answer.
There are two motor actions with this vacuum, 1) the vacuum suction, and 2) the beater bar. The action of the beater bar is that motor is supposed to automatically shut off when the handle is in the complete vertical position assuming the vacuum is stationary, but then turn on when the handle is tilted toward the floor, assuming the vacuum is moving back and forth.

Normally when the motor is easily moved back and forth means that it have a proper lubrication,proper alignment and no clogs.
When the motor and the belt is OK the problem could be on electrical wiring and switch.
If found electrical switch burned out you need to replaced it because when the switch is burn the contact of that switch is open even you turn it ON.that’s why the motor is not function because the voltage is not pass through the circuit because of open switch.You need to replaced it.
And check some fuses if any and other burned electrical wire.Replaced it also.

My electrolux oxygen vacuum cleaner shut off and will not turn back on. It’s less than a year old, but I bought it off Craig’s list–they were the orginal owner and they said they bought it in May of 2008. I’ve only used it a few times and it worked fine except for the last time when it suddenly just shut off. If not, you have a clogged hose. If it came through, remove your wand from the power nozzle, look througfh the wand, is it clogged? Now, look at the power nozzle, can you see light through the elbow?
