Dyson DC14 Animal Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum\015 Doesn’t seem to be sucking\015

How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :

If the machine will no longer efficiently pick items up, the filter might be dirty. If after cleaning the filter your vacuum is still not sucking things up, turn your vacuum around and pull the red tab at the bottom of your Dyson out.
If your Dyson Ball Animal vacuum no longer sucks up dirt, dust, and debris when using the nozzle and its attachments, there may be a clog in the vacuum`s nozzle. Unplug the vacuum and use the Dyson Ball Animal Hose Replacement Guide to remove the vacuum`s hose and check for clogs at the base of the hose.
Most cases of a jammed or stuck brush bar are quick and easy to fix, simply pulling the debris gently from the brush bar. Alternatively, if you need to clear a problematic blockage, you can take the brush bar out of the housing easily, for quick maintenance.
Instead of a brush bar with bristles, the soft roller cleaner head uses a roller to capture dust and debris at the same time. Gentle on hard floors, tough on dirt. Soft woven nylon envelops debris, while anti-static carbon fiber filaments remove fine dust from hard floors.
A Dyson vacuum cleaner has a lifespan of around 10 years. This is considerably longer than most other vacuums. So, if you`re looking for a high-quality vacuum cleaner that will last you for a long time, a Dyson could be a good choice.
Check for a plugged hose:

Plugged vacuum hoses are sometimes the reason for a loss in suction. Hoses can get clogged with hair, dust bunnies, string, or anything else that can`t pass through the other end of the hose. Airways inside the machine should be looked at as well. Wherever there is an air passage, check it.

Wash filters in cold water only

(don`t use detergent or wash in a dishwasher or washing machine). Rinsing under the water supply then gently squeezing the water out of the filter. Repeat until the water runs clear.

One of the easiest ways to increase vacuum cleaner suction is to empty the dust bag or container. Dust containers need to have enough space for airflow, otherwise, they could get clogged and have less suction power. Regularly check your dust compartment and empty or change it when it`s already 70-80% full.
If your vacuum is leaving dirt behind, or even spitting dirt back out while cleaning, it`s usually due to a blockage. It sounds like you`re experiencing this from the base of your machine, so we would suggest having a look at this video here, on removing blockage from the cleanerhead.
Check the LED light to determine the battery level. A solid blue light indicates that the machine is in normal operating mode. A flashing blue light indicates that there is no power, and the battery needs to be charged for a minimum of 3.5 hours.

No suction i have a hoover supreme wind tunnel vac and its relatively new and the suction, well……sucks. It wont pick anything up! I am extremely frustrated! I picked up a ball of fuzz off the carpet and held it under the vacuum and it still wouldn’t **** it up. I then shoved the fuzz up INTO the vacuum. It fell right back out. I may as well not even vacuum. Please help!
ANSWER : I have found more vacuums on the way to the dump because they were full. Check. Is it full?
.If not the air way is clogged.

My filter queen just had the motor rebuilt last year and was basically a brand new unit when I got it back. It is not picking anything up now when I vacuum. The beater bar on the carpet attachment is turning fine and when I take all the attachments off the hose I can feel the suction being created like it should be picking up debris just fine. I have emptied the canister even when it did not have much in it; however, it still will not pick anything up off the carpet. It picks up debris tempo
ANSWER : It sounds as if you have a clog inside the “Power Nozzel”. They mention that there are “no user serviceable parts within the Majestic® Power Nozzle” My advice would be to see if you can see a clog with in reachable distance and try to remove the clog. One way to check for a clog which may work for you is to remove the attachment and shine a flashlight on one of of the attachment and look through the other side and see if you see light, if no light, most likely a clog. Past that you might void the warrenty if you try and open it up the Power Nozzel itself. You may want to ask a Phone service rep about clog removal.

The Hoover Steamvac Widepath will NOT pick up water. The dispenser with cleaner DOES have water. The TANK that would receive the dirty water is NOT full. All tanks are on properly and the machine will still not pick up the used water. I found a tear in the interior hose leading to the receiving tank and repaired throughly with electrical tape. Still will not pick up the water. Any suggestions?
ANSWER : Sounds like a clogged air path (no vacuum action) from the floor pick-up to the collection tank. Take the tanks off and deal with the vacuum problem alone. The collection tank should have a air exit vent–is it clear? Check the interior hose that you repaired–is it clogged? Remove the bottom plate and inspect the air path from it. Because this machine deals with water, clogs can become like concrete! Hope this helps!

My electrolux oxygen cannister has the “bag change” light on when there is a new bag. The light stays on when the suction power is high (to pick up small particles) and it won’t pick up, but the ight goes off when the suction power is low (to pick up big objects). I changed the hepa filter, cleaned the motor filter and changed bags, but all that didn’t help.
ANSWER : You may have a clog in the hose, and/or the inlet by the brush roll. A clog will turn on that light as well as a full bag.

The vacuum cleaner does not pick up anything from carpet. It does not even pick up pieces of thread laying on carpet. On tile floors it blows dirt away instead of picking it up. I’ve tried all the settings on the brush and nothing works. It has done this since new
ANSWER : Sounds like there is a clog..
.
.Usually its in the hose – look closely.. Stretch the hose out straight and look in there good..
.
.Or a clog could be in the vac close to where the hose conects to the vac on either end..
.
.This is most case scenario with these types of vacs..
.
.I hope this helps !!

My dyson seems to have lost its suction therefore is not picking up anything yet i have found that when my dyson is standing upright it has a little more suction but nothing like how it use to work. This has only happend in the last 2 weeks. I sanded a floor & though the sander picked up majority of the dust i did use the dyson to pick up the excess and it is since then that my dyson has not been working to its full potential.

Isn’t picking up lint. Will pick up other things like flecks of paper but will not get any fuzz or fibrous material off any rug no matter what the setting. This is a recent problem. Have owned the vacuum for awhile and never seen this issue before. Is it an easy fix? I’ve cleaned the brush, cleaned out the filters, cleaned the dirt tank. Nothing changed.
ANSWER : Is the brush turning on the bottom of the machine ? If not It could be cloged
up with stuff or the belt could be worn on it and it will turn but as soon as it contacts the floor it will stop turning. The belt is easy to replace by removing screws on the bottom of machine and a plate will come off . The belt can be pulled off and a new one installed by stretching it over the shaft on the motor and one on the brush assembly some may have a cogged wheel. JUST MAKE SURE IT IS UNPLUGED BEFORE DOING THIS

I have a Eureka Altima vacuum cleaner that doesn’t pick up very well. The suction seems fine but the brush roller doesn’t seem to pick up from the top of the carpet. When you lower the height of the vacuum the belt rubs and smells horribly. How can I get the vacuum to pick up better?
ANSWER : That means that you need to replace the belt. Here is the belt you need to replace and the manual which has instructions:
