How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :

The steam vacuum cleaner can be considered one of the most important appliances in every environment, as its function of extracting steam allows a deep cleaning and the elimination of all bacteria present on the surface.
Only Use Water in the Reservoir

With the exception of a few models that have dual functions, steam mops are typically designed to be used with water and nothing else. The steam alone does a great job of cleaning the floor. Always read the manual on your mop model thoroughly for complete use guidelines.

Fill the water tank on your steam cleaner, and allow time to heat-up time. Your cleaner may have an indicator light to let you know when it`s ready, or you may just have to wait a few minutes.
We would like to let you know that you would need to use water with our steam mops. If the unit is used without water it can damage the unit.
All steam cleaners work best with distilled water. “I don`t think people realize that you can cause the steamer to stop working if you use the incorrect water,” says Kellsie Zapata, the owner of Zapata`s Cleaning Services. “The minerals in tap water will corrode the inside of your machine.”
Steam cleaning is better than traditional mopping in some ways. You`ll get a deeper clean with a steam mop because the high temperature of the steam actually sanitizes your floors—something a traditional mop can`t do without the use of chemicals.
Start on the far edge of your carpet or rug and push the vacuum forward in a straight line. This movement lifts the nap (or fibers) of the floor covering to reveal any dirt or debris hidden underneath. Then pull the machine back slowly toward you to collect all that debris.
Although some carpet steamers and cleaners have a suction mechanism to remove the cleaning fluid and water from your carpet after cleaning the area, you should only use them for steaming or cleaning a carpet and never use them like a vacuum cleaner.
The BISSELL® Symphony All-in-One Steam Cleaner combines a vacuum and steam cleaner into one machine, so you can enjoy the benefits of steam cleaning while also vacuuming your floors. Steam mops, like the Symphony, let you clean your hard floors without a mop and bucket or harsh chemicals – all they take are water!
Except when you are descaling a steam mop, do NOT put anything other than water in the tank. Not only does this defeat the primary purpose of steam cleaning (in avoiding chemical cleaners), but you can possibly damage your steam cleaner.
Although distilled water can become stale, just like hard water when left in a clothing steamer, it won`t foam. However, it`s still important to empty out the water from the steamer after every use, as distilled water can still harbor bacteria.
Typical steam cleaners can use anywhere from 1000 to 1800 watts. (For comparison sake, a typical lamp uses about 60 watts, while a typical computer uses about 365 watts).
If there is no indicator, turn the unit on by using the on the switch. After the unit is done heating, usually 3-5 minutes depending on which machine you have, the indicator light will turn off. This indicated the water is hot and you are ready to begin steam cleaning.
A steam cleaner uses hot water and detergent to clean carpets. The water is then vacuumed up, leaving the carpets wet. After a steam cleaning, you can expect it to take at least 8 hours for carpets to dry completely. However, the time it takes will depend on whether or not you use a detergent-based cleaner.
So, where does the dirt go when you steam clean? Actually, it doesn`t go anywhere. Instead, the heat and vapour of steam cleaning ensure that all the unwanted substances or stains are fully broken down and easy to get rid of.
Toilet cleaning

You can use the fine nozzle for toilets at the highest steam output. This will give you the best cleaning results for really dirty areas, (this also works for sinks and drains). Put vinegar on limescale areas first and then hover the steam cleaner over it.

Keep the water boiling constantly. Refill when necessary with boiling water. Do not jar the kettle. A mould or tightly covered tin can may be used; it should be thoroughly greased, and if it has no cover, a strong piece of glazed paper may be tied over the top; this should also be greased.
Steaming tips

Bring the water to a rolling boil (bubbles all over), and add food (fish, vegetables, meat) to the steamer in a single layer. The steamer should be about 2.5cm above the boiling water, and the steamer should be covered with a tight-fitting lid to retain the heat.

You will need to top up with just-boiled water 2-3 times as it will cool and lose the steam. Use ordinary water, just-boiled from the kettle. You do not need to add anything to it.
Steam Away Grease and Baked-On Food

Simply aim the nozzle of your clothes steamer toward a greasy pan or stovetop to loosen grease and baked-on food, making it much easier to wipe away with a microfiber cloth. This is particularly helpful on glass cooktops where abrasive cleaners can do damage.

To ensure a thorough clean, pre-spray your carpet with a biodegradable cleaning solution. You can combine one part of distilled white vinegar with three parts of cold water in a spray bottle.
Soap only lifts dirt and oil into water, making them suspend in water. Therefore, the more soap you use, the more your mop gets saturated with dirt. So, if you do not remove all the soapy water from the floor, the dirt remains, forming streaks on the floor.
Steam cleaners are generally safe to use on any type of linoleum floor, ceramic or porcelain tile, and on some forms of hardwood and laminate flooring. Steam mops are not appropriate for many types of luxury vinyl planks due to the possibility of steam getting through the joints.
– Can be used as a detergent additive to your water or as a ready to use in place of water. Simply fill your water container on the steam mop or Mix 50ml simply steam detergent with 200ml water or 1 part simply steam with 4 parts water.

Turbine Hi I found out through your site that my turbin is bad on my steam vac and I found some information as well on how to disasemble the steam vac to get to the turbine but still was wondering if there were some more detailed instructions on how to remove the turbin. I am a sigle mom and doing the work on the steam vac myself and need a little more detailed instructions. Please help asap and have a bless day.
ANSWER : There are some screws on the bottom that have to come out so you can remove the top housing. Take the brush block out, there are 2 screws above where it sits. The turbine sits near the front, and in the mid section, 2 screws on the front of it and 2 long screws from underneath, if you already haven’t removed them. Unhook the hoses to it thenpick it out and replace with the new one. ( Some models near the back of the housing, is a catch on each side that you have to unhook to release the top).

My Europro shark steam mop won’t steam, light on but no steam.
ANSWER : Hard water deposits. I ran some white vinegar through mine, like a coffee maker, and it worked for a while, but clogged again. So I unplugged it, let it cool and turned it over in the bathtub and squirted a small amount of Lime-Away into the hole where the steam comes out. Let it soak for 5- 10 minutes and it is working like is is brand new.
