How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

If you`re using your wet-dry vac to clean a dry surface, check that the filter has been correctly placed. You`ll need it—the filter prevents dust from blowing out of the top while you`re cleaning. For wet surfaces, however, you`ll need to remove the filter entirely.
But a shop vac has two holes. One hole near the top permits replacement air to enter the container. When a hose is attached to this hole, dirt and debris can be sucked into the container. Air circulates out another hole to equalize the constant airflow in the shop vac and keep the motor cooled as it`s being used.
A wet and dry vacuum cleaner is a versatile cleaning appliance that not only removes dry dust but is also ideal for removing wet spills.
If you own a bagless vacuum, do not put a wet filter back in the machine. This will hurt the motor, but even worse, it can cause mold to grow. A warm, damp, dirty place is the perfect combination to grow mold. Then when you turn the vacuum on it blows the mold around your house.
Regular vacuum cleaners are not designed to pick up water and other liquids. If you are ever tempted to run the vacuum cleaner over a puddle of water, remember that you run the risk of electrocution and serious damage to the machine.
Wet/dry vacuums can handle: Floor Cleaning: Many wet/dry vacuums come with attachments for cleaning hardwood flooring and they can even be used as a standard vacuum for cleaning upholstery and curtains.
Gravity and friction are the two main forces that make vacuum suction work. While gravity pulls molecules in the air toward the earth, creating an atmospheric pressure, the suction cup and vacuum pump cause a pressure difference, attaching both surfaces.
As a rule, most of the smaller canister or shop-type vacs use high-speed vacuum producers. These tend to run at a very high rpm, which can reduce the vacuum`s lifespan to as little as 800 hours — or about 18 months, assuming you use your vacuum for about three hours each day.
A dry vacuum system does not use water to generate suction. A wet vacuum needs significant water flow to generate suction.
Further, where, like the present invention, for a wet use, a float valve has been employed to prohibit the vacuum canister from over filling and passing water into a motor inlet, such has been covered by a filter, such as a primary filter.
The science behind why damp dusting is more efficient than a dry cloth comes from the fact that a damp cloth introduces capillary force to the dust particles. In short, the damp cloth draws the particles in and lifts dust from the area instead of moving them around.
Why is the vacuum is blowing dusty air out of the back? Simple: the bag or canister is full and the vacuum has nowhere to store the dust it is collecting. Empty the canister or bag. If that doesn`t fix it, the vacuum filter needs to be cleaned or changed.
When you use a vacuum cleaner without a HEPA filter, these particles are stirred up and put back out into the air through your vacuum`s exhaust. Regular filters can`t remove these harmful particulates and this puts the people in your home at risk.
Wet carpets require a special type of vacs to be cleaned. The best professional solution is using a wet dry vacuum cleaner. The wet-dry vacs are ideal for versatile cleaning. This type of tool will clean out both the dry dust and wet spills.
If the filter isn`t clean, it can impact the performance of the vacuum. Dirty vacuum filters can restrict airflow so the suction won`t be as strong.
Since the filter is made of paper, you can clean it with water, but you should let it completely dry before reuse. You can also stock up and save by purchasing this filter in a two-pack. Want a pro tip?
HEPA filters offer high-quality purification. They are highly effective in removing particles like pollen, pet dander, dust mites, and smoke. A normal vacuum would recirculate these particles back into the air. HEPA-filtered vacuums trap the particles instead.
Shop-Vac® HEPA Small Cartridge Filter is the ultimate filter for wet and dry pick up*. It is made of HEPA material that maintains suction power even when used with fine debris like drywall dust!
Does baking soda ruin your vacuum? Baking soda`s minuscule size can clog the filters and potentially damage vacuum cleaners – particularly the motor. If you`re using a bagless vacuum, the potential chokepoint would be the cyclonic filters and the post-motor HEPA filter. For bagged vacuums, it`s the HEPA filter.
Mops are Dirty

A wet vacuum, on the other hand, actually removes 99% of soils, leaving the floor clean and free from the risk of cross contamination. The technology even does a superior job of cleaning all kinds of hard floors including uneven surfaces and grout lines between tiles.

Not all messes are created equally, which is why a wet-dry vacuum that can handle wet or dry spills can be a useful tool for households big and small. “Wet-dry vacuums are extremely versatile and help to safely clean liquids and dirt in and outside your home,” says Leanne Stapf, COO of The Cleaning Authority.
Hypoxia is one of the primary risks of suctioning. This can happen if: The suctioning machine stimulates the vagus nerve. The suctioning is ineffective and does not remove an airway obstruction.
The suction is 22Kpa which is very powerful, easily to pick up the hair, dust and sand in a short time.
Shop vacs come with a more powerful motor than home vacuums because they need to suck up big and heavy objects. They have powerful lifting and suction capabilities. They can remove both liquid and dust particles with ease. Home vacs are less powerful as they only suck small particles.

Central vac our central vac will not work unless the main vac in the garage is switched on manualy…. its sucking fine but i have to switch it off at the main switch in the garage after i have used it normaly i just plug in the hose and vac away and it switches itself off we have just had cable installed with a fisher guy in the walls do you think that would be the problem thanks a lot
ANSWER : It is possible that the low voltage wiring that controls your central vacuum has been damaged during the cable work. You can check to see if the low voltage relay is working by shorting the two terminals together at the unit. Just disconnect the two small (18-22 gauge) wires from the unit and short across the terminals where the wires connect. If the unit comes on, the vacuum is fine, and it is most likely the low voltage control wires that have been damaged. It should be a pretty easy fix, if you can get to where the wires are located. They are probably just pulled apart at a joint. Good Luck!!

We have a dyson dc 07 animal the machine was working fine then switched off after returning to the machine minutes later it wouldnt switch on, i removed on off switch cover and used a short piece of wire across the brown wires flicked the wall switch and it worked, aha i thought faulty switch aquired a new one to no avail and now even the short piece of wire trick doesnt work, has the motor died do you think, it wasnt over heating or making strange noises prior to refusing to work
ANSWER : It could be the motor. I’m having to replace the brushes on my DC 05. It appears that you can only get brushes for the YDK motors in the DYSON, not the Panasonic motor. Which might be saying something about the YDK motors. What happens is that the carbon brushes wear down which is normal. However, the contact wire from the brush to its connector is set so that when the brush wears down, the wire is short enough to stop the spring etc from damaging the commutator. The end result is that you get an intermittent operation of the motor before it finally dies.
.I believe all the DYSONs come with the option of both motors and you cannot really tell which motor you have until you take the thing to bits. You also cannot change motors without changing various other parts on the hoover. On my DC 05 the writing on the YDK motor tells you which one it is.
.This website www. tasweb.org ,select the DC 05 option and scroll down tells you how to take the thing to bits. A search on google etc for your DC 07 may give similar results. Best of luck!

I have an Easy-Flo central vac unit. The handle on the electric hose has a switch on the handle. With the switch on ”O” in the center, it’s off. On the left, is the ”I” position. The vacuum runs but the power brush doesn’t. On the right is the ”II” position. The switch won’t flip that way. It feels stuck. It feels as if there is something underneath of it that won’t let it push that direction. I have the switch out of the handle, but I can’t seem to get the actual black casing around the
ANSWER : Switches are not usually designed to be dissembled.
I would strongly suggest that you dont take the switch apart. you are better off getting a new one. then if you feel like it you can take the old switch apart and if it dosnt work you still have a new switch. if you decide to dissemble the old switch be vary careful there are very small parts in there that will fall out. and most of the time the casing will crack when you pry it apart.

Good luck

Electrolux Epic 6500 SR …no power to power nozzle. I think it is the switch in the handle because if I use my friend’s hose/handle (same model), my power nozzle works fine when I turn on the switch. If you think it is the switch, can I get a part for it?
ANSWER : That’s about the best one to narrow down a problem, however, there could also be a break in your hose wiring. Switches, hoses, and hose handle assemblies are all available at your local Aerus Electrolux store. Simply take your entire machine in so they can check it to be sure what the problem is.

Hoover Windtunnel On/Off switch will not turn Off…Switch seems to work O.K. when pressed directly but not with handle switch…It will turn on but not off..Cam seems to be intact on switch actuator..How does switch come out? Thanx
ANSWER : Take the handle off, then remove the tool holder, then you can get to the switch. Just has tabs on each side of switch, depress them and push it out. These switches will do this after awhile, replacing them is usually the way to correct the problem.
