How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :

A turbo brush has rotating brushes that make the vacuum suck dirt out of high-pile carpets better or pick up pet hair from the ground better. If you have pets, high-pile carpet, or coarse rugs, a vacuum with turbo brush is the best choice for you. Or, you can order a separate turbo brush for your vacuum.
The two settings – brushes up and brushes down are to help you clean both carpets and hard floors. When the brushes are up you can get nice and close to carpeted floors and suck up all the dust and nasties hidden in the fibres.
Pick up fine dust settled deep into the carpet as well as on hard floors with the Turbo Action Brush. A 180 degree swivel head lets you easily change direction and clean every corner of your home. *Image simulated for illustrative purpose.
Rinse the filter

Any fine dust remaining in the filter can usually be removed with a gentle rinse under a cold tap – hold the filter under the running water until the water runs clear. You shouldn`t need to use any detergent – just water.

HEPA filters are not designed to be washed and reused. Doing so will cause damage to the fibers which makes the filter ineffective and it will become void of its job. Once a filter has reached the maximum capacity of harmful particles, it will need to be replaced with a fresh, new one.
In a vacuum cleaner motor, the motor brushes are carbon rods which are held against the commutator in order to carry the electrical current to the windings on the armature. They are often called “carbon brushes” as well.
KEY TAKEAWAYS: Bagged vacuum cleaners comprise six main parts, including angled fan blades, a porous bag, an exhaust port, an intake port, an electric motor, and a housing unit. Extra attachments include brush heads, vacuum hoses, and angular suction tools.
The suction motor creates vacuum pressure and suction by rotating a motor fan. The impeller rotates at an incredibly high speed of about 30,000 to 35,000 RPM. A suction motor`s power is measured by multiplying the rate of air flow and the vacuum pressure, which induces air flow from the brush through the hose.
Also known as the power nozzle, the power head is found at the base of most vacuum cleaners. These frequently offer brushroll height adjustment capabilities for cleaning different floor types. Different types can clean any surface, from bare floors to deep-pile carpeting.
If the Brush Roll stops rotating, there are a few fixes you can try. The vacuum may be locked in the upright position. When the vacuum is in the upright position the Brush Roll won`t rotate. Recline the vacuum and switch the Brush Roll button ON.
Many vacuums feature a rotating brush, known as a beater bar, which is designed to agitate the carpet fibers to help loosen soil deep in the pile. This feature is helpful in many cut-pile carpets but can be damaging to certain styles.
Wind turbine power brushes are an important component of wind turbines that are essential to their proper function. Brushes are electrical conductors that work with slip rings and brush holders to protect vital wind turbine components from static electricity and other viral currents.
Hard Floor Brush for Tiled and Wooden Surfaces

The broad width (12″) of the hard floor brush allows for quicker and easier cleaning of wooden floors, vinyl, ceramic tiles and stone. Inside diameter is 32mm.

A vacuum hard floor brush, also known as a hard floor tool, is a vacuum attachment that is designed for vacuuming hard floors only. They are designed to prevent scratching of hard floors and look like a broom head. Hard floor brushes are popular with polished floors and tiles.
When you use a vacuum cleaner without a HEPA filter, these particles are stirred up and put back out into the air through your vacuum`s exhaust. Regular filters can`t remove these harmful particulates and this puts the people in your home at risk.
Most manufacturers recommend you change your filter on average every 3-6 months. However, it is recommended to change your filter even earlier depending on usage and allergy care.
The most common problem with a vacuum cleaner is also the easiest to remedy: clogs in the hose or attachments. Also the electrical cord, motor, switch, fan, brushes, and motor bearings can all need repair or replacement. The drive belt may need replacing; and the attachments, hoses, and filters may need unclogging.
Many vacuums have not one but two filters. The pre-motor or air inlet filter can be found before airflow travels past the motor.
Some say that the filter can release a part of the absorbed VOC when exposed to the sun, but we have no relevant experiments to verify this. So we will say that activated carbon filter is one-time use only.
After a year or so, you may need to replace your vacuum`s beater brush. If the bristles seem to be squished, broken or are varying heights, it`s time to replace the brush. These can be found online with the vacuum`s brand and model of your vacuum cleaner.
Brushes. According to iRobot, brushes should be replaced every 6-12 months. Robot vacuums like the iRobot Roomba j7+ have multiple brushes that allow it to clean.
Grab a new brush! The most popular types of paintbrushes are Round, Liner, Wash, Angular Wash, and Fan. Each type of brush has different sizes to help you cover larger areas or get those fine details depending on the size and subject of your painting.
The Suction Denture Brush is a two sided brush mounted to a suction cup base. This allows for users to clean their dentures with the use of only one hand. The brush and base are easy to clean and designed to stay still for easy use.

Hoover steam vac, brushes won’t rotate, have cleaned filter by brushes, removed brushes and they rotate okay when off steam vac, tried to ajust level for carpet cleaning and brushes still don’t move
ANSWER : There are three things to check when experiencing ‘no spin’ on the cleaning brushes. 1) Check the small pull out filter screen under the machine. It must stay clean for air to pass to the turbine which powers the brushes. 2) Check that the long shaft on the brush assembly is not broken off. This shaft inserts into the turbine motor and powers the brushes. If you’re handy you can replace just the long shaft brush rather than replacing the whole brush assembly. Look for the brush on Ebay 3) If you’re handy you can dissemble the machine and inspect the turbine motor which powers the brushes. In all cases the bearings seize in the turbine. You can often free them up and re-lube them to get more service from them or simply replace the turbine assembly. Don’t throw your Steam Vac out because the brushes no longer turn…you can fix it!
