How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :

Check if the mop is properly plugged into the outlet and turned on. If it is on and still not functioning, try resetting the mop by plugging it into a different outlet. Add water to the tank if it is empty then try selecting the `STEAM` setting once more.
Check to see if there is water in the water tank. If there isn`t, unscrew the water tank cap and use the filling flask to pour distilled water into the tank until it reaches the fill line. Replace the water tank cap and tighten. Power the device on, wait about 30 seconds for the water to heat up, and then try again.

Shark vacuum brush not spinning is a common issue. The problem occurs mainly due to blockage, damaged belts, unemptied dust cups, or loose nozzles. Luckily, there`s a fix available for each one. So, don`t panic and continue reading to learn all the possible causes along with their fixes!
Check for a clogged hose or filter; unclog the hose and replace the filter, Wait 45 minutes for the vacuum to cool; then plug in the vacuum, Turn the power switch to the `I-On` position to start the vacuum. If the vacuum still does not start, contact Customer Service at 1-800-798-7398.
I used baking soda to fix the problem. Mix water with a teaspoon of baking soda in a bowl, and then pour the mixture into the water tank (fill up to the brim). Then, turn on the steam and hold the steamer upside down, with the nozzle AWAY FROM YOU. Once the light turns green, turn on the steam.
We have had some customers who have had their steam cleaners for 5-8 years and are still going strong. For less expensive models like the steam mops or handhelds, you should probably expect more like 3-6 years of consistent use.
The steam mop wont turn on

Check the On/Off switch is in the On position. The plug may not be fully pushed into the electrical socket. Check the fuse in the plug if this needs replacing, always replace with a British 13amp fuse.

You might wonder what the batteries are for since most steam mops need to be plugged in, but the Shark Steam & Spray mop can actually run on both- electricity AND batteries! The Shark Steam & Spray Pro is easy to maneuver through all the crevices of the home and gets into corners and under tables.
Sometimes the battery may have gotten dirty or slipped away from its contacts inside the Shark robot vacuum. Cleaning and repositioning it may fix your problem. But if it`s an old battery or there are clear signs of damage, you should order a replacement battery that matches your model.
To reset your shark vacuum, put the Power button in the On-Off position and keep the vacuum unplugged. If necessary, clear the hose. Once it has cooled completely, plug the vacuum back in again.
Vacuum Doesn`t Turn On

The Shark Cordless Vertex Pro IZ682H comes with two lithium batteries. If your battery does not charge, clean the terminals of the vacuum and the battery with rubbing alcohol. If the battery doesn`t charge, you should replace it.

If breakers continue to be tripped while using a steamer, it`s most likely that another appliance is being run on the same circuit and pulling too many amps.
Always turn steamers and irons off when you have completed the work. (However, some steamers and irons contain an auto-off option, which will turn off the appliance after a certain amount of time has passed.)
Verify there is no debris build-up on the charging contacts. If found, clean the charging contacts on both the Roomba® and the Home Base® with lightly dampened melamine foam. Examine Home Base®/Clean Base® line cord and check for any damage such as cuts, or fraying. Ensure the plug is securely inserted into the outlet.
Not Plugged In

You will notice a blinking blue light on the front of the device when plugged in correctly. If the light fails to come on then try to plug into a different outlet.

Only Use Water in the Reservoir

With the exception of a few models that have dual functions, steam mops are typically designed to be used with water and nothing else. The steam alone does a great job of cleaning the floor. Always read the manual on your mop model thoroughly for complete use guidelines.

Soap only lifts dirt and oil into water, making them suspend in water. Therefore, the more soap you use, the more your mop gets saturated with dirt. So, if you do not remove all the soapy water from the floor, the dirt remains, forming streaks on the floor.
Do: Wipe up excess dirt before steaming. Steam mops essentially employ steam to loosen grime, which the mop head then clears away, but there`s no suction element in this appliance. This means that surface dirt will need to be vacuumed or swept up before you begin or you`ll only succeed in pushing dirt across the house.
Mix your purchased descaler or mix 1 1/2 oz. of baking soda with one quart of clean water. Fill the empty tank with this mix. Seal the unit and turn the steam cleaner on so that it begins heating.
Lucky for us, hot steam can break down grease and oil! By cleaning with steam, it can easily penetrate fine cracks between greasy dirt and surface to loosen and dislodge stubborn dirt particles.
Firstly, change the electrical outlet socket. If the vacuum still isn`t turning on, check the power cord from end to end. There may be wear and tear damage at the weak points that connect the cord to the vacuum and plug.
Your Vax carpet cleaner may not be picking up water because the machine has picked up too much grime, and has become blocked up. Check around the head of the carpet cleaner for anything obvious that might make the suction on the Vax weaker, or look for clumps of hair that could be caught in the bristles.
To reset, remove the Powered Head from the reach wand/handheld and clear any obstruction. Wait 1 minute before refitting the Powered Head, switch the slim vac on and press the brushbar on/off button. Check the user guide for the specific steps for your model.
