How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :

PORTER-CABLE 20-volt Max 2-Gallons Cordless Shop Vacuum (Tool Only) it has a rating of 4.3913 with 230 reviews.
The most common causes of loss of suction are dirty filters or a clog in the hose. To troubleshoot, remove the hose from the vacuum, place your hand at the opening of the tank inlet and turn the vac on. If you feel suction at the inlet, the issue is with your hose or accessories.
HOW VACUUM BAGGING WORKS? Vacuum bagging uses atmospheric pressure as a clamp to hold laminate plies together. The laminate is sealed within an airtight envelope. The envelope may be an airtight mold on one side and an airtight bag on the other.
A vacuum pump removes air and moisture from the system before the system is damaged. The deeper and more complete the vacuum, the more moisture is removed, and the likelihood of system complications caused by unwanted water or other contaminants is reduced.
The suction on a shop vac relies on the strength of its motor. The strongest shop vacs have roughly 5-6.5 peak horsepower. Factoring in some other features, like the quality of the air filters and the size of the tank, sets these vacs apart from each other.
One of the easiest ways to increase vacuum cleaner suction is to empty the dust bag or container. Dust containers need to have enough space for airflow, otherwise, they could get clogged and have less suction power. Regularly check your dust compartment and empty or change it when it`s already 70-80% full.
Bag material

The most common vacuum bags are multilayer PA/PE. Polyamide (PA) works as an oxygen and aroma barrier to form an impenetrable exterior and polyethylene (PE) is a food-approved interior that acts as a water vapor barrier and sealing layer.

The maximum compaction pressure available at sea level with a perfect vacuum bag is 14.7 psi (29.92 inches or 760 millimeters of mercury.)
By using vacuum we reduce the vapor pressure of the water so that it boils, or turns to a gas, at a much lower temperature than if was at atmosphere. This is very helpful at removing moisture quickly from hydraulic, lubricating, transformer and other types of industrial oils.
The vacuum pump has a compression chamber, which has low pressure compared to the high pressure inside the system. This will cause the air and other gases inside the system to rush into the compression chamber through the inlet. The compression chamber is basically split into two low-pressure areas that rotate.
The suction power is measured in Watt (W) and is typically between 250 W and 450 W for machines with 1 motor. The suction power is to be measured at the end of the tube of a complete vacuum cleaner (i.e. with tube, hose and filters – but without nozzle).
It is referred to as pounds per square inch (vacuum) or PSIV. The electrical output of a vacuum pressure transducer is 0 VDC at 0 PSIV (14.7 PSIA) and full scale output (typically 5 VDC) at full scale vacuum, 14.7 (0 PSIA).
What is a Good Suction Power for a Vacuum Cleaner? An upright cordless vacuum cleaner should have at least 100 air watts to effectively clean a variety of floor surfaces, with the best Samsung vacuum cleaner reaching up to 210W*.

Commercial-grade vacuums, on the other hand, deliver a balance of 100+ cfm airflow and 80+ inches of suction. Such vacuums are able to provide this performance balance as they employ two impellers in a series.
Gravity and friction are the two main forces that make vacuum suction work. While gravity pulls molecules in the air toward the earth, creating an atmospheric pressure, the suction cup and vacuum pump cause a pressure difference, attaching both surfaces.
Stainless steel is the preferred material of construction and is used almost exclusively in ultra-high vacuum systems.
Materials for Vacuum Forming

Some of the most commonly used plastics include: Acrylic (PMMA) Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) Polycarbonate (PC)

A vacuum sealer removes the air from a bag or container and seals it closed. This is done using a combination of suction and heat. The suction removes the air from the bag, and the heat is used to seal the bag closed.
With the proper seal, vacuum packaging can protect products from dust, moisture, insects, and a variety of other external elements that may harm or damage products. Vacuum packaging is also an excellent barrier of protection against freezer burn during long term freezer storage.
The more air flowing through a vacuum, the better, which therefore means that the higher the airflow rate, the higher the cleaning power. An average airflow rating for a vacuum cleaner sits between 50 – 100 CFM.
Normal Engine Operation

At idling speed, an engine at sea level should show a steady vacuum reading between 14 in. and 22 in. Hg. A quick opening and closing of the throttle should cause the vacuum to drop below 5 in., then rebound to 23 in. or more.

Overall, if you`re interested in a vacuum that collects dust and dirt efficiently, a dry vacuum cleaner is for you. However, if you`re looking for a vacuum that sucks up larger and bigger quantities of debris and collects water safely, a wet vacuum cleaner would be recommended.

.Hello,
.I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.
.I am sorry that Henry Hoover is having a problem with his cordwinder and what happens that the cord tends to overlap the other cord inside of the vacuum and what needs to be done is this; #1 take apart the cordwinder and unwrap al the cord all the way out then re-wrap the cord and re-install #2, if that does not work then lubricate the cordwinder but not the cord to have it work more efficiently, and #3 if all else fails replace the cordwinder with a new one. Always when using the cordwinder, always pull out everything until the end to use the cord all the way out to prevent the cord from over lapping and binding up inside the Henry Hoover. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

Mains cable on dc07
ANSWER : Generally no unless you’re a certified electrician. It would involve taking apart the bottom section of the Dyson or wherever the cord leads to, and splicing the cable out of the connection end when you open up the Dyson. Easiest solution is really to get it replaced and if you do then ask them to put an extra length cord on it if you are needing it.

Hoover Self-Propelled WindTunnel U6436-900 cable problem
ANSWER : The flat belt should be changed if it has been longer than 9-12 months. Next I would remove the upper handle to inspect the top section of the control cable, sometimes it fray’s and has a sponge feel (no positive control) to self propel. To set this adjustment, it is best to do withthe hood off of the lower section. I would also look at the cable jacket in the foot to make sure it is under the metal clamp. It must be under the clamp to work properly. To get it under the clamp loosen one hold down screw at the top and one in the back of the vacuum, remove clamp screws and put jacket into position and then secure all screws. Now set the adjustment, Install upper handle and set self propel to off. loosen cable from arm in foot with torx screw. manually move arm until the clutch is off both drive pads. This is a visual adjustment. then secure and reassemble vacuum.
