Hoover S3639 WindTunnel Bagged Canister Vacuum\015 I was wondering if I have to take the machine appart to get to where I need oil on the cord retractor part or if I can do it externally some how. If I had an exploded view I could figure it out myself, but no luck. I would appreciate any help. Thank you,..Jim\015

How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

WindTunnel technology and Multi-Cyclonic filtration lifts and removes surface debris and deep down embedded dirt with no loss of suction. The 25ft. power cord automatically retracts in seconds so you never have to wrap a cord again.

Great option for a vacuum cleaner for around $100. It has a retractable cord, extendable hose with attachments, and different settings for the type of floor.
Retractable Cord Reels

They use a spring mechanism to provide the retraction force. As the cord is uncoiled and pulled out for use, tension builds up on the steel torsion spring. Once the electrical power is no longer needed, the stored energy in the torsion spring is released, retracting the cord back to the reel.

Fixing a broken or damaged vacuum power cord is another common vacuum repair that do-it-yourself-ers can easily handle at home. Home repairs on vacuums, tools, outdoor equipment, and other appliances can save you a truckload of money at the repair shop, and anyone can take on simple repairs like this one.
Overheating motor causing an automatic shutoff

If a vacuum motor overheats due to poor airflow, the vacuum will automatically shut off. This is most commonly caused by an air passage that is plugged by hair or dirt. Refer to the leaky hose guide to remove the hose, then inspect for hair or dirt clogs.

Extension cords generally are of a lower-gauge wire than our power-supply cords. This lower-gauge wire will heat due to the smaller gauge and could possibly melt the insulation of the extension cord, causing a short circuit. This short can cause shock to the user or ignition of any combustible material it touches.
They work on a pair of rotatable wheels inside a storage space that houses the entire length of the cord. When a user pulls the cord, extending it, the ratchets lock automatically, preventing the cord from rolling back up into its original storage position.
Cord Rewind: 25FT cord automatically retracts with the touch of a button. Multi-Floor Performance: 5-level height adjustment for various hard floors and carpet types. Multipurpose Attachments: Tools for corners, crevices, stairs, furniture and more. WindTunnel Suction Technology: Enjoy powerful, long-lasting suction.

If only the plug prongs are bent or snapped, start by replacing the plug. If the cord itself is frayed or has exposed wiring, you`ll need to replace the entire electrical cord. Replacing only the plug could leave you open to electrical shock.
It`s also important to pay attention to the vacuum cords. Tishko recommends checking them daily. Replacing a cord might cost $85 in labor and up to $130 for the new part.
Check For Clogs or Blocks In The Vacuum

Check the hoses, the filters, and throughout the vacuum, and clean out any blockages or clogs. Vacuums will likely also have a recommended cooldown time to ensure that the vacuum won`t overheat. You will need to wait for that time before you turn the vacuum back on.

If your vacuum cleaner keeps turning off, this could be due to the following reasons: Blockages – check the hose and head for any obstructions. Filter – always check your filters, if these are clogged this could be causing the vacuum cleaner to work harder and lose suction power.
Larger appliances, such as microwaves and refrigerators, may not be plugged into a power strip or extension cord. Such appliances must be plugged directly into a properly installed outlet.
“While some electric car owners have reported using a typical extension cord, we don`t recommend it,” says Kelley Blue Book Executive Editor Brian Moody. “In fact, Kia and other automakers specifically say not to use an extension cord in the owner`s manual.
Test for a potential short circuit by touching each prong on the AC side of the power cord. If the multimeter beeps, your power cord is bad and must be replaced immediately. If your power cord is shorted, do not attempt to replug the cord into the AC outlet.
A flexible cord may be damaged by door or window edges, by staples and fastenings, by abrasion from adjacent materials, or simply by aging. If the electrical conductors become exposed, there is a danger of shocks, burns, or fire.
Cords wear out from physical abuse, not from electricity running through them. Foot traffic will quickly wear down the insulation, causing cracks and other fire hazards. Plus, if you can`t see a cord, you won`t be able to tell if it is damaged or getting overheated.
By default, the flow of current generates an electromagnetic field of interference around the wire that creates noise the can impact signals being transmitted through surrounding wire and cable. In order to help eliminate this electromagnetic interference, the wire is twisted together to create a canceling effect.
Fine particles. Fine particles are no match for even the strongest vacuums. Construction dust, makeup, used coffee grounds, fireplace ash, and other fine particles can burn out the motor and be released back into the air. It`s best to sweep these items up to keep your vacuum – and yourself – safe.
Don`t use a vacuum cleaner. A vacuum can create static electricity that can damage computer components. A vacuum can also create enough suction to make your fans spin hard enough to damage them.
Remember, an auto-retracting knife requires the user to hold a slider or button to expose the blade. When the blade is self retracting, however, it needs two conditions to stay extended: a user holding the slider AND pressure against the cutting edge.
retract implies drawing back from an extended position.

Power cord jammed won’t go in or out. Can comeone tell me how to undo the casing to get to the power cord?
ANSWER : Which model do you have..

Retractable power cord
ANSWER : JUST LIFT OFF THE TOP HALF. CAREFULLY REACH IN FROM THE LEFT SIDE AND DISCONNECT THE CLEAR PLASTIC HOSE THAT IS ATTACHED TO THE “DIAL” ON TOP OF THE MACHINE. THEN LAY THE TOP HALF OF THE MACHINE TO THE RIGHT. DON’T DISCONNECT ANY WIRES. YOU’LL HAVE TO HAVE A NEW CORD WINDER (LOOK ON E-BAY). THE MOTOR AND CORD WINDER ARE ATTACHED TO EACH OTHER BY WIRES AND CAN BE LIFTED OUT OF THE CANISTER.EVERYTHING YOU DO JUST REMEMBER THAT ALL OF THESE PARTS ARE ATTACHED TO EACH OTHER BY WIRES. THE ONLY WIRES YOU’LL NEED TO DISCONNECT ARE THE ONES ATTACHED TO THE CORD WINDER ASSEMBLY. THEY JUST PULL OFF, NO TOOLS ARE NEEDED.

My dyson DC05 has been playing up for a while. The motorhead would start fine with green light on and after a few minutes would stop and light would go green. then the power would go on and off – seemed to only work when I had the handle a certain way. Now no power at all. is there a way that I can check if its the power in the handle section as thats the only way you can turn this machine on? Thanks in advance
ANSWER : As the wires that control the motorhead run all the way down the hose it is a break in the wires you will need to buy the hose assy sorry its not thesort of thing you strip down and repair

I have a hoover upright bagless – turbo power 6500 The cord has been run over and I just noticed white stuff on the cord where it is tattered. My husband said he saw it 6 months ago and never said anything! Anyway, what is that white stuff in the cord? Is it dangerous in any way? Is it insulation? What is that usually made of? Just concerned since the cord is dragged over the floor and my little boy constantly has his hands and face on the floor. Thanks. Worried mom
ANSWER : It can be potentially dangerous. What you see is the cord insulation, if you move that a little you can see the power wires. They are coated and cannot hurt you if not damaged. If i were you i would wrap it in electrical tape or best thing would to get it replaced. You can replace it your self. Order the cable from Sears Parts store(link to your model)then your husband can install it. But not to sound rude if he didnt say anthing about that damaged power cord he may not be the right person for the job. He should have known it could be dangerous and thankfully your child wasn’t hurt or you two either.
Here is the part number (Part# 46383334) and it will cost you about $20 plus shipping. The cord is item number 63. Let me know if you have further questions./

The power cord is stuck part way out – it seems to have slipped over the edge of the reel inside the machine, so it won’t pull out and it won’t retract. Pulling hard does no good.
ANSWER : Hello,

Yes, pulling hard is not a good idea. You need to use techniques to get it out.

Get a flat Phillips screw driver, use it to bring it out. Or use a screw drive to disassemble the part that that went inside the machine. If that’s not an easy task, then you might disassemble the whole unit so that it can be renove easily.

But you still need to apply some force to bring out the stuck power cord, don’t apply too much force, but some force is needs.

You can send me the picture of the stuck part, so that I can see what I am dealing with if the above is not helpful.

Good luck.
