How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

A vacuum intake passage is provided within the housing for passage of air sucked in from the exterior of the housing, and a steam generator is provided within the housing to generate steam. A steam discharge passage is provided within the housing for passage of steam discharged to the exterior of the housing.
Check that the vacuum cleaner is plugged into a working power outlet and that fuses and breakers don`t need resetting. An activated thermal cut-out due to a blockage is the next most likely cause of the problem. Check for blockages in the hose and filters, and remove any obstructions that you find.
If your vacuum cleaner keeps turning off, this could be due to the following reasons: Blockages – check the hose and head for any obstructions. Filter – always check your filters, if these are clogged this could be causing the vacuum cleaner to work harder and lose suction power.
Intake ports are the final part of an engine`s air induction system. They connect the intake manifold with the combustion chamber and are opened and closed with the intake valves.
Check the filters: A clogged filter can cause a vacuum cleaner to blow air instead of sucking it. Check the vacuum filters and clean or replace them as needed. Check the hose and attachments: Check the hose and attachments for any blockages or obstructions. Clear any blockages you find.
Replace the Brush Belt

If the vacuum is still hard to push, tilt it back far enough that you can inspect the moving brush while the vacuum is running. Be careful to avoid getting too close to the moving parts. If you see that the brush is not turning, that means you will need to replace the brush belt.

Neglect your vacuum filter bags, and you`ll swiftly lose suction power. This, in turn, places unnecessary strain on your vacuum`s motor. Eventually, your vacuum will become a lot more difficult to maneuver, not to mention less effective at cleaning your rugs, carpeting, or other surfaces.
The bottom line. Many vacuum brands recommend changing the bag before it becomes full, at least every three months.
Clog located in the vacuum hose

Turn the unit on and feel the suction at the end of the hose handle. If there is no or low suction, then the clog is in the hose. You can remove the clog by running a long, stiff object through the hose, such as a butter knife, starting at the wall end.

If there is something that has become caught in the hose in another part of the system, the airflow will be reduced and can cause overheating and a shut down. Clear out hoses, attachments, and brushes of any hair, dirt, and debris. This will allow for restored airflow and should get things going again.
The modern automobile air intake system has three main parts, an air filter, mass flow sensor, and throttle body. Some modern intake systems can be highly complex, and often include specially-designed intake manifolds to optimally distribute air and air/fuel mixture to each cylinder.
In the simplest terms, air intake systems bring air from outside the vehicle into your engine`s intake manifold, where it is then mixed with fuel from your gas tank.
Sometimes two camshafts are used, one to control the intake valves and the other to control the exhaust valves. The camshaft may have two sets of lobes where one set is designed for low and the other for high RPMs.
Intake runner volume is a popular way to compare cylinder heads. It tells you the size of the passage leading to the intake valve. It is expressed in cubic centimeters (cc).
The intake manifold also helps cool down the cylinders to prevent the engine from overheating. Coolant runs through the manifold to the cylinder heads where the coolant absorbs the heat and reduces engine temperature.
Other things equal, lower gas pressure means higher-quality vacuum. For example, a typical vacuum cleaner produces enough suction to reduce air pressure by around 20%. But higher-quality vacuums are possible.
Blockage – when a vacuum cleaner becomes unusually loud, it is normally because of a blockage of some sort. This is a problem that is easily solved by turning off the cleaner, check for blockages in the pipes, and remove them. You can also check and empty the canister to remove any possible blockages there as well.
The two main indicators to determine vacuum power performance are water lift and airflow. The water lift is measured in mmH2O, mbar or kPa. It represents the suction force and is the reference parameter for vacuuming liquids and heavy materials. The airflow is measured in m3/h or in l/s.
You vacuum too quickly

Vacuuming slowly will allow your machine to suck up more dirt and dust, and ultimately get your rugs and carpets much cleaner. Slow vacuuming allows the brush to agitate the carpet properly and suck up the unclean bits that emerge.

Vacuum cleaners can release large concentrations of particles, both in their exhaust air and from resuspension of settled dust.
But a shop vac has two holes. One hole near the top permits replacement air to enter the container. When a hose is attached to this hole, dirt and debris can be sucked into the container. Air circulates out another hole to equalize the constant airflow in the shop vac and keep the motor cooled as it`s being used.
The Full Dust Bag Indicator in On

It is often recommended, however, that dust bags are replaced when they`re around two thirds full or once a month. Daily and extensive use of vacuum cleaners will create a need to replace dust bags more frequently.

A full vacuum bag can also cause the motor to overheat and eventually fail, resulting in costly repair expenses or the replacement of a new vacuum. If you are using an upright vac with a belt-driven system, a full bag will increase the amount of force required to spin the brushroll, which can damage the belt.
If your vacuum sealer is melting the bag too much and creating tears in the seal, try decreasing your seal time on your sealer. It may be too long for your bags. If your vacuum sealer isn`t sealing the bags all the way through, try increasing the seal time. The bags may need a little more time to properly seal.

Rear air port for release of too high suction
ANSWER : You have to open the entire mid section of the vacuum. There is about 8-10 screws to remove. I would inspect for clogs in all tube sections prior to opening. I’ve opened my vacuum many times it’s not terribily difficult just be careful to not disturb the wire routes or pinch them when closing the vacuum back up.

No suction I have the central vac type. It has no suction at the can. I pulled the hose going to the walls and tested there…and nothing. I removed the dirt can and checked the motor …it is spinning but does not feel like any suction. I checked the exhaust and it is pushing strong air out. I also cleaned the filter and still nothing. Is there a relay or something that would cause only exhaust air. I emptied the can of dirt and put it back together and have absolutely no air…..hear the motor
ANSWER : On some units there is a screen that protects the impeller of the motor. If this gets sealed off with debris then it is like putting a potato in the tail pipe of a car. Taking the top off the unit reveals the motor. DO UN-PLUG the unit first from the electrical outlet. Take off the exhaust piping if any to allow the motor to be lifted out of the canister. There is typically enough wire to allow this without taking any wires off. Look at the bottom of the motor to make sure the nut has not spun off the impeller and it is still attached to make suction. The look at the hole (aprox. 2″ round) to make sure it is clear of any debris. If it is not clean it and re-install everything. If the impeller is off the motor it is new motor time.

Suction centralux vacuum two years old doesn’t have the volume air movement it once had. Unit will still quickly reach an extremely high head of suction so no broken pipes. ran napkins thru no blockage, overode filter safety switch ran with out filter no difference. just don’t move air like it used to

No Suction I get great suction in the hose, but when I plug the hose back into the unit, there is no suction and the air flow indicator line goes completely red. I've changed the bag and filters. I took the small panel off the back and made sure there is no clog, and took the hose off to make sure there was no clog there. Still no suction. Please help.

Poor Suction Heya! So I just picked up a used Dyson, but when I vacuum with it, the suction is pretty weak and it spits all kinds of stuff out the back and into my feet. When I pull the hose I have good suction, but in regular mode it hardly picks up anything. The brushes are spinning, and it eventually will clean an area if I go over it again and again. Maybe a clog somewhere? Please tell me that Dysons have better suction than my $50 Dirt Devil! Thanks!
ANSWER : I recently bought a second hand Dyson DC07. Its suction was poor. I removed all the un-clipable pipe bits and to remove any blockage but it all looked clear. The Final Sponge and hepper filter did have a lot of dust in it and the rotating brush was full of hair but nothing bad.

.I eventual gave in to curiosity and removed the three screws in the top or the yellow removable dust collection tube and cyclone bit to see what was in there. The mechanism to release the flap at the bottom of the collection tube does not allow you to remove the lid completely but it does open far enough to get inside. I found the whole top section of the yellow plastic bit blocked by a big plug of compacted dust and a champagne cork. If you are willing to take the risk and have a torx 15 screwdriver handy it that part may be blocked. It did get a bit messy.

.If I was going to attempt the same procedure I’d remove the dust collection unit from the vacuum cleaner as I did before, but leave the clear tube attached and the emptying flap firmly closed to reduce the mess from the dust falling out the bottom while cleaning the top part.

My central vaccum cleaner has no suction at all outlets even at the canister. The motor is still working and blowing air out the air release tube. What could be the problem
ANSWER : Check the filter in the tank. If this is dirty, the motor will still run, but there will be little to no suction. Rinse thoroughly under warm water, then allow to thoroughly air dry before replacing into vacuum.
.I recommend having two filters in order to use one while the other is drying.

My dyson slim dc18 has suction in hose attachment but no suction in floor attachment. Tried to clear any obstruction by running clothes hanger in rectangular opening that empties into cannister and also tried to blow air through there also but still can not get suction
ANSWER : Hi its Darran at Dyson.

It would be worth checking that the brush bar is turning when the machine is in the vacuuming position. If it is not turning, please press the re-set switch located on the cleanerhead.

If this starts the brush bar turning but does not solve the problem, please check the cleanerhead for blockages and remobve any threads or hair trapped around the brush bar.

Poor suction I have weak suction at all ports and no suction at the canister. It is a Nutone model CV-350. This unit came with the purchase of our home, so we don’t know much about it. thank you for your help.
ANSWER : Either you have clogged filters, or the motor is weak, you could check the carbon brushes, otherwise replace the motor.
