How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :

If your vacuum is fairly new and this is the first time you`re experiencing a problem, repairs are probably the best option. In fact, your vacuum may still be covered under warranty. However, if you`ve had to pay for multiple repairs and you`ve had the appliance for many years, it might be time for a new one.
The most common problem with a vacuum cleaner is also the easiest to remedy: clogs in the hose or attachments. Also the electrical cord, motor, switch, fan, brushes, and motor bearings can all need repair or replacement. The drive belt may need replacing; and the attachments, hoses, and filters may need unclogging.
The most common problems found in vacuum cleaners are low suction force, excessive noise, burning smell, vacuum not turn on, and overheating. These issues can be fixed by either cleaning the device or replacing some parts of the device. At times, it is best to seek a professional to fix the cleaner effectively.
The average life expectancy of a mid-range vacuum cleaner is about six years. You can fix or replace things like blocked filters, jammed brush rolls, frayed hoses, worn-out stick vac batteries and broken accessories yourself.
Factors may include having a bad motor, incompatible pump applications or poor ventilation. Constant overheating may indicate a malfunction.
`Tripped` reset systems are the most common reasons for a brushbar not turning, but there are some other less common reasons too. These include: If the bearings on the end of the brushbar have seized, you won`t be able to turn it at all. This will often result in a broken belt as well, so be aware of this.
you can just grab the swivel wheel and pull it out but if it gives you trouble you can also use a flathead screwdriver to pry it out. you`ll want to remove any string or hair that might be tangled up in the wheel. you can also clean it with water. just be sure to leave it completely dry.
Fortunately, it is easy to repair a vacuum hose with this problem and the hose will only be a few centimeters shorter once repaired. In some cases, you wont need any new parts to complete the repair, but if you do they are readily available and much cheaper than a new hose.
Fixing a broken or damaged vacuum power cord is another common vacuum repair that do-it-yourself-ers can easily handle at home. Home repairs on vacuums, tools, outdoor equipment, and other appliances can save you a truckload of money at the repair shop, and anyone can take on simple repairs like this one.
The essential role of the roller brush

The roller brush is the combination of a belt, a roller, and sometimes a small vacuum head motor. The roller spins, and the bristles attached to it sweep up debris that then gets sucked into the dirt container of the vacuum.

Oreck XL How to remove rear wheel. Removed all viewable hair, thread, etc., but one wheel is still hard to turn. I think there’s hair stuck inside the wheel core. Can I remove the wheel & take it off the metal post?
ANSWER : You can take a medium size flathead screwdriver and slide it in beside the wheel and under the pin. Then pry carefully on one side and then the other it will start to come out but work both sides alternately so you won’t put too much pressure on the plastic. Once it is out you can clean it and put it back in. Line up the pin and use a blunt end tool like a punch to tap it back in. You can use the same screwdriver but don’t hit it too hard. You can tell when it is in all the way when it bottoms out. Make sure you look closely at it before you take it out so you will know what it is suppose to look like.

Dyson vacuum I have a DC07 vaccuum. The problem I am having is that the front does not want to stay down as I vaccuum and I continuously have to keep stepping on the front to make it go back down to the floor. It seems as though there is either not enough weight in the front or possibly the unit just has to be broken in so that there is not so much resistance between the handle and the front of the vaccuum. Could there be something I did not remove or is this typical on these vaccuums?
ANSWER : There is some thing broken it is two plastic cogs they help the front go down and stay up you will have to get a star screw driver and there should be two screws on top and two at the bottom when you have undone them all you will see what i mean take them out only if there broken if there ok put them back in place and put the top and bottom back together if there broken get new ones or put in back together and you will have to lean it up all the time if you want new ones go to www.ebay.co.uk or .com don’t for get to wright down your model number its much easy good luck
