Electrolux Lux 7000 Bagged Canister Vacuum\015 The power cord no longer retracts. How do I take the machine apart to get at and fix the power cord so that it will retract?..I posted this problem earlier and on August 20 received this response from Buffalo 12980:..″The trim pieces along the sides just pull off separating the two housings. The back portion where the retract drum is is held by two plastic tangs on top inside. Use a screwdriver to pry the ring down to dislodge the tangs. The bottom part will lift off. Remove the front part using two screws just below the hinge. The retract has a long coil spring wound around a free spinning hub..There are two “tangs” inside that engage a ratchet-pawl assembly. You’ll need to rotate the drum to rewind the spring onto its hub.”..My problem is that I cannot get past the first step. I am able to pull off the rubber bumpers but not the bumper tracks. I assume that the bumper tracks are what is meant by “the trim pieces.” ..The tracks are held in place by the back section of the machine, where the power cord is meant to be housed. How do I remove the back section?..Any additional help you can provide will be much appreciated...Thanks again...Tyaq\015

They use a spring mechanism to provide the retraction force. As the cord is uncoiled and pulled out for use, tension builds up on the steel torsion spring. Once the electrical power is no longer needed, the stored energy in the torsion spring is released, retracting the cord back to the reel.

Why Does My Electrolux Vacuum Head Turn On and Off? Typically, an intermittent on/off issue has to do with a connection between the vacuum head and the hose handle.
Most vacuum models including brands like Oreck feature models with a 30-foot cord. A cord of this length allows vacuum users to maneuver around their home and complete cleaning needs with ease.
Make sure the cord is fully extended before you begin vacuuming. Hold onto the cord with your hand as you vacuum. This will keep the cord from being pulled back into the vacuum. If the cord has a lock or lock button, use it to keep the cord extended.
Hold the plug when rewinding onto cable reel. Do not allow the plug to whip when rewinding. To retract the cable, press the button firmly until it clicks and the cable rewinds.
Our customers love their Electrolux vacuum cleaners, and it`s easy to see why. Electrolux vacuum cleaners are known for their superior quality, suction power, and durability. Some customers noted that their old Electrolux vacuums lasted them over 30 years– that`s no small feat!
If your vacuum cleaner keeps turning off, this could be due to the following reasons: Blockages – check the hose and head for any obstructions. Filter – always check your filters, if these are clogged this could be causing the vacuum cleaner to work harder and lose suction power.

Retractable power cord
ANSWER : JUST LIFT OFF THE TOP HALF. CAREFULLY REACH IN FROM THE LEFT SIDE AND DISCONNECT THE CLEAR PLASTIC HOSE THAT IS ATTACHED TO THE “DIAL” ON TOP OF THE MACHINE. THEN LAY THE TOP HALF OF THE MACHINE TO THE RIGHT. DON’T DISCONNECT ANY WIRES. YOU’LL HAVE TO HAVE A NEW CORD WINDER (LOOK ON E-BAY). THE MOTOR AND CORD WINDER ARE ATTACHED TO EACH OTHER BY WIRES AND CAN BE LIFTED OUT OF THE CANISTER.EVERYTHING YOU DO JUST REMEMBER THAT ALL OF THESE PARTS ARE ATTACHED TO EACH OTHER BY WIRES. THE ONLY WIRES YOU’LL NEED TO DISCONNECT ARE THE ONES ATTACHED TO THE CORD WINDER ASSEMBLY. THEY JUST PULL OFF, NO TOOLS ARE NEEDED.

Use a flat blade screwdriver and if you look down bertween the ht. adj. mech. and the elboe where the wire is, you should be able to see the 2 tabs, just pry it away form the elbow and it will come off. When you put it back on, make sure all wires are routed where they were and tip powerhead, it will snap into place.
