Dyson DC14 Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum
How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?
Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :
No need to worry about keeping bags on hand or where to find more. There is no extra expense for buying bags. If your bagless vacuum has a clear cylinder or tray, it`s cool to actually see all of the dust and dirt particles swirling around in the dust cylinder under high pressure.
These are symptoms of bad or dirty bearings. You should remove the brush roll or rolls from the vacuum. Check to see that the bearings at the end of the brush roll allow it to spin freely. Make sure that there is no hair trapped in the bearings.
Locate the u-bend cover, press the yellow release button, and look for any possible blockages. These blockages may be preventing the machine from locking in its upright position as well as reclining when already locked. See below link for visual guides.

Assuming if you leave it for an hour and come back to it that it works again you have an airflow issue. This machine will cut out if the motor gets too hot. The likely causes are 1. Filters – take them out and give a good clean once dry you can try them again. 2. Blockage – Remove your u-bend and the blockage removal access check for an obstruction.3. Radix assembly is blocked. I will post a link to a YouTube video showing how to address this as it is a bit more difficult.
If your machine wont turn back on after a rest then your options are 1. Cord problem (most likely)2. Switch (unlikely)3. Motor
I have a video for just about all these problems on my youtube channel under VacuumSpot or VacuumSmart. If this is a step in the right direction please lay a thumbs up on the videos 🙂

I’m sorry to hear your DC14’s brush bar isn’t rotating. This could just mean that the brush control is set to ‘Hard floors’ rather than ‘Carpets’. To check for this, please take a look at our Support guide:
If you’d like further advice after running through these checks, you can reach our freephone customer Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1-866-693-9766 (US).

Let me know if this helps.
If your DC14 has a brush control, we would only recommend that a suitably trained person attempts to replace the brush bar.
We can arrange a repair so that one of our engineers can replace this for you, and as part of the repair they would be able to look at any other issues you may be having with your machine.
If you would like to discuss your options, please contact us on 0800 298 0298 (UK) or 1866MYDYSON (US).
Kind regards
