If brush will not turn by hand, or belt is broken, replace the damaged part by ordering online at BISSELL.com. Clean off any debris on the brush. If the brush is still not turning, please take the unit to an Authorized Service Center to have a Quality Technician inspect the unit.
The brush roll or its bearings may be clogged with hair, threads or dirt. Make sure they are clean and the roll spins. The belt may also have slipped because it was loose. Check the fit of the new belt when it is installed.
Your Brush Roll has an ON/OFF Button right under the Power Button, giving you control of the Brush Roll. The Brush Roll will automatically turn on when your Adapt Ion is turned on in the stick vacuum mode. However, the Brush Roll will automatically shut off if there`s too much debris on it.
Vacuum Cleaner: Why doesn`t my vacuum cleaner`s brush roll spin? A broken drive belt, damaged brush roll, jammed brush roll bearings, tripped brush roll motor overload, failed brush roll motor or a wiring failure in the wand or nozzle can prevent the brush roll from spinning.
You may have stalled the brush motor. To reset, turn off and unplug, then plug back in and turn on. The brush roll may have lodged debris or other entanglements keeping the brush from rotating. To fix, you`ll need to remove the brush roll to inspect.
Locate the brush reset button on the lower back right of the vacuum. Press the button to reset the brushroll To ensure the brush has been reset, plug the vacuum back into the electrical outlet.
Check to make sure the Vacuum Suction Knob is turned towards “Floor Suction.” Or there could be large debris clogging the brush roll rotation. Your dirt container may not be seated properly or may be full. Press the Tank Release button and remove.
Next to the motor, the belt on your vacuum is just about the most important part of your vacuum. Without the belt to spin the brushroll, most vacuums won`t pick up on carpeting at all! If your vacuum uses a rubber belt, check it once a month for cracks, melting, and especially, slippage.
Before you spend your time trying to go back over the same areas, hoping you`ll get it all cleaned up the second time around, check out your brush roll and belt. If you`ve cleaned your brush of any sticky stuff and hair, and it all looks fine, you`re likely dealing with a stretched belt.
Unplug the cord from the outlet. Hold the end of the cord and press the automatic rewind button located on the lower side of the unit. Guide the cord so that it gently fits back into the machine. Do not allow the plug to whip when rewinding as it could cause damage to the cord.
Check both the brush roll and chamber for any large debris that may clog or stop the brush from spinning. If it is damaged or broken, you can buy a replacement on bissell.com. Replace your brush roll by re-inserting. Using the coin again, turn the groove counterclockwise to lock the brush in place.
If your brush is not turning it could be due to a broken Belt or a seized Brush Roll, follow these steps to resolve: Turn off and unplug machine. Use a Phllips-head screwdriver to remove 3 screws, 2 in the belt cover and 1 on the brush roll mount. Remove belt cover.

Windtunnel belt I have a new Hoover Windtunnel canister. The belt keeps coming off. It happened a couple weeks ago (several times after putting the belt back on) so I assumed I might need a new belt as it might have dried out at the store. I ordered new belts and today I used it for about an hour and the belt came off again, twice. There doesn’t seem to be anything to hold the belt on the stem as it seems to slip off. I have tried it centered, to the left and to the right….can you help. I am v
I’ve successfully used a compatible belt – Royal 104425001 .It’s still new, but for the time being at least – it works.
Hoover WindTunnel Self-Propelled V Belt
I had this same problem with the V belt on my Hoover Vaccuum..
.There are three (3) basic things that will cause the brush roll not to spin..
.1. When handle is upright, brush roll is OFF..2. When switch is set for HARD surface, brush roll is OFF..3. Broken/worn FLAT belt or V Belt, brush roll will not spin.
.I noticed that the brush roll was not spinning when my vacuum was set for CARPET. After removing the cover I noticed that the V belt was loose, I thought the belt was worn so I purchased a correct replacement belt and installed it, but the new belt was also loose and when I turned the large flat belt pulley it did not turn the V belt pulley at the same time..
.I double checked the surface setting and I had the vacuum switch set for carpet, but still when I released the handle out of the upright position the brush roll would still not spin..
.My aggravation finally led me to this posting on FixYa’s website..
.The first thing I did was checked the screw to the left of the V belt as suggested by ejmjr5 and this did nothing to solve the problem or create more tension on the V belt, even when the upright handle was not in the upright position..
.After playing around with the surface setting control switch/nob I notice that when I moved the switch out of the HARD surface setting and over to CARPET, I had thought that the switch was set for CARPET as it visually appeared, but I was not pushing the switch over hard enough to click it into the CARPET setting mode..
.VOILA, the brush roll now spins correctly even though the V belt seams to be too loose for the pulley..
.You really have to force the switch into the CARPET setting. Be sure that you hear the switch/nob click into place..
.Now you can effectively clean up after that hangover of a party!.
I’m using (or WAS using) a Eureka ”the boss” model 8803. The belt broke, no biggie, so I replaced it with a Eureka model U belt, the problem is when I put the new belt on and turn on the vaccuum, the belt breaks again. I am also having trouble getting the brush roller to fit right when the belt is in place. I can’t find any sharp edges that would cut the belt, nor can I find where any small bits may have broken. Anyone have a solution for me?
First, make sure you have the right belt, second, i am thinking that you are not lineing the roller up right, it will only fit one way. look at the ends of the roller and the grooves where it slides in, you should be able to see clearly how it goes.
My belt broke…I bought a new belt..but I do not know how to put the new on on. I took out the brush roller and put the belt around it but I have no idea how to get it to go on the part that makes it move.
Belts Burning On our Ultimate G, belts are lasting about 2 uses and they smell and burn off. I am looking at the roller and I can see a slight grove where the belt rides. Is it time for a new roller. I am sick and tired of replacing belts and smelling up the house. Thanks Dusty
Yes, replace the brush roll, the ends or end is probably bad and causing the belt to slip and burn up.
My Mom has a Dirt Devil Featherlite and the belt falls off all the time. I put it on three times today and it falls off within a few minutes. The belt post I put it on doesn’t have anything to hold the belt on. Is there supposed to be something holding the belt?
It sounds like the belt is too worn and loose to stay on. Buy a new belt specified for that model of vacuum and install. Ensure that there is only a slight amount of give in the belt when you press the middle.
Hoover bagless cannister 3765 – belt on power head slips off spindle. bought new belts – same problem. is this a design problem or can it be fixed? I don’t want to take it to a repair shop 100 miles away and have them just put on a new belt. saw idea of smaller belt – what number? couldn’t find suggested royal 104425001 belt.
I would not recommend a smaller belt. You will only wear the motor. This model series power nozzle needs to have a metal clip installed near the belt on the brush roller housing. I know that most of them left the factory without it. Remove the cover to see if one is ther. if not have your dealer send you a clip or a housing with one on it.
Hoover windtunnel t series belt is loose- roller brush doesnt turn.
Its brand new belt is slipping. we bough new belts and putthem on same problem. Can not find solutio in manual.
Is the belt supposed to go around the “metal pulley”. I know it goes around the little metal motor thing, then thru the guide and around the brush.
What is the metal pulley??? Is is the larger round silver thing between the guide and roller?
I also have a loose belt and have bought additional belts but have the same problem. I put the it around the metal rotor and around the brush roller a shown by he Hoover video, and it is loose.
