How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?
Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :
Roomba is a series of autonomous robotic vacuum cleaners made by the company iRobot. Introduced in September 2002, they have a set of sensors that enable them to navigate the floor area of a home.
Roomba can also use a random bounce pattern, where it will move around the room until it hits an object. When it does, it changes directions and moves elsewhere, ensuring the entire room gets cleaned.

A vacuum cleaner robot is a type of automatic vacuum cleaner that uses sensors, motors, and algorithms to navigate around space and clean the floor. Some robot vacuums are designed to be hands-free and can be set to clean a specific space at a specific time or on a regular schedule.
The six most common types of robots are autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), automated guided vehicles (AGVs), articulated robots, humanoids, cobots, and hybrids.
The ABS plastic that is used in the body of the Roomba is made through the process of emulsion. “ABS plastic is made when acrylonitrile and polystyrene monomers are polymerized with butadiene rubber to create acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS).
Robotic vacuums have built-in sensors that can detect what areas of your home need extra work, and they`ll make extra passes over the area. High traffic areas like hallways, entryways, mudrooms, and playrooms will get the extra attention they need to keep them clean.
Unlike a normal cleaner, Roomba moves itself around your room with two large tractor-style wheels, each one independently driven by a separate electric motor. The wheels can turn in opposite directions, which means Roomba can literally “spin on a dime” and clean almost any space it can drive into.
A More Modern and Intelligent Solution Once that map is created, the user can customize commands using the Roomba smartphone app. For example, when vacuuming is complete, the Roomba can communicate with iRobot`s Braava Jet robot mop to initiate mopping—with no user interaction.
Amazon revealed a robot named Astro during its September 2021 hardware event. At the time, the company said it believes, in five to 10 years, every home will have a robot. It described Astro as a “new kind of household robot that integrates Alexa, advanced hardware, software, computer vision, and AI“.
A robot is a type of automated machine that can execute specific tasks with little or no human intervention and with speed and precision. The field of robotics, which deals with robot design, engineering and operation, has advanced remarkably in the last 50 years.

Roomba Discovery My Roomba turns on and moves but the brushes won’t turn. Someone told me that I had forgotten to put in the yellow and black end bearings, but I did. Help, I miss my Roomba
I have a Roomba 530, I have had it for 2 weeks and really loved it. I have followed all the cleaning instructions etc.. Then the Roomba wanted it’s brushes cleaning “please clean Roombas brushes” So thinking that something was stuck I removed and cleaned the brushes, (yellow tabs on and in place by the way)
ANSWER : I read somewhere that you need to clear the software in case there is a glitch. To do this, take the battery out and then, simultaneously hold down the “spot” and “clean” buttons for 30 seconds. Replace battery. This has worked for my Discovery model.
My Roomba 560 does not automatically dock as advertised either..
ANSWER : You may not believe this, but the new 500 series lighthouse virtual walls have both infrared and radio frequency communication. How they work and associate with the Roomba is pretty complicated. The best posting I’ve ever seen about how they work is here:
http://www.robotreviews.com/chat/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=11048
Check out that link to understand how the communication works.
If your Roomba is contained by the virtual walls, then you can assume the IR sensor on your Roomba us good….you should test that though. Then you might have to replace the “home base” which could have a bad IR transponder . New ones can be found for reasonable price at www.RoboticVacParts.com or you could order straight from iRobot for twice the price.
If the Roomba is not contained by the virtual walls, then the IR sensor on the Roomba is likely bad and you’ll need to change the bumper on your Roomba. Again ….parts are available through ebay, or www.RoboticVacParts.com. Follow this link if you need it.

Battery charge I just purchased a new battery pack insert for my Roomba, Replacement
was a breeze and it now works great. My question is; The last battery I
bought ( not from you) was a full cased roomba battery pack that didn’t
last a year. Roomba says leave the r Roomba charging all the time so
it’s ready when you need it, and that’s nice but I feel that leaving it
charging like that it will kill the battery faster as it is always warm
to the touch. These battery’s should last at least 5
ANSWER : Dave you are correct. You should never over-charge anything like a Roomba, Cel Phone, etc. That will kill a bettery very quickly.
Battery temperature sensor.
ANSWER : 1. Battery configuration is incredibly important and must be matched to the requirements of the device.
.
.2. Battery charging is as much an art as a science. Just slapping any old power supply on a battery pack to charge it is essentially technical sue-ee-side.
.
.Yes, the car battery folks make it look easy; but many, many millions of dollars and development hours went into that simple-looking technology just for that reason: to make it look easy.
.
.You may have damaged the batteries and probably damaged the circuit board as well. There is a reason that companies spend millions in development. Unless you have a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, you should stick to factory-designed and -authorised parts.
Roomba Discovery My Roomba Discovery seems to work fine, mechanically, but it no longer seems to collect any dust. (The collection bin remains empty after the Roomba has circulated around the floor for quite a while). The brush has been replaced and spins normally. Does anyone have an idea why this machine’s vacuum function no longer seems to work? I would appreciate any feedback. Jeremy
ANSWER : Did you replace the filter? when you remove the dust bin there is a small filter that needs to be cleaned, or replaced. You can buy a maintenance kit that replaces the brushes and filters as well, its good to replace them all regularly
Roomba Stops I’ve had a Roomba for about 2 months. Lately, it runs for about 45 secs, then stops, makes a two-tone (descending) sound, and flashes the CLEAN button while the STATUS button is red. I’ve emptied the dustbin on it. Can you help?
I am seeing the same problem on my roomba today. I cleaned all that I could., the brushes, the pins on the sides and all that and it still gives the same problem..Any other fix?
ANSWER : Run your roomba through a self diagnostic test. I have posted the link below. Tell me your findings....http://mysite.verizon.net/gsplews/Diagnositic-Tests_Proc.v.0.5.htm
Roomba Discovery My Roomba turns on and moves but the brushes won’t turn. Someone told me that I had forgotten to put in the yellow and black end bearings, but I did. Help, I miss my Roomba
ANSWER : The plastic gears that drive the sweep brushes strip out easily on.these. You can get the company to repair it for you but they make.it a big hassle. I opted to buy the gear set on EBAY and replace.them myself.
Roomba discovery My roomba comes off the charger and will go about a minute and a half. Then it will stop and beep once. i checked roombas sight and they said that the brushed need to be cleaned. I cleaned the brushes 6 times. It still does the same thing. I bought it from you in November of 2007. Should I bring it back to your service department?
ANSWER : Greetings doreen f,
.
.The roomba unit carries a one year manufacturers warranty, so you should be able to bring it into your local Best Buy™ store and have them try to repair it.
.
.I hope this helps!
