Vacuums\015 I have the same model LUX7000.\302\240 My machine is doing exactly the same thing.\302\240 It shuts off and indictates the bag is full when it is brand new.\302\240 The top filter (HEPA) is in place and clean.\302\240 I have tried running the vacuum without that filter and it still does the same thing.\302\240 I have blown everything with a high presure air hose, I have vacuumed the unit with a shop vac and tried everything I can without success.\302\240 One thing I noticed is when the knob on the top that adjusts how sensitive it is to the size of particles before the machine shuts down is set lower than the most fine setting,\302\240 the machine even shuts off more quickley.\302\240 The only way to get it to run at all is to make that setting for the finest particle setting.I have an older Regency Series 1500 Electrolux, Model 1515. The hose is clear, there’s a new bag in vacuum and as soon as I get close to putting the hose on, the vacuum shuts down and the bag full light comes on. Just putting my hand close to the opening will do the same thing. I’ve tried with and without a filter, same thing happens. Looking for ideas! Thanks\015

How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :

If your vacuum cleaner keeps turning off, this could be due to the following reasons: Blockages – check the hose and head for any obstructions. Filter – always check your filters, if these are clogged this could be causing the vacuum cleaner to work harder and lose suction power.
The most common problems found in vacuum cleaners are low suction force, excessive noise, burning smell, vacuum not turn on, and overheating. These issues can be fixed by either cleaning the device or replacing some parts of the device. At times, it is best to seek a professional to fix the cleaner effectively.
A damaged vacuum hose, clogged motor air filter or bad suction motor can cause the vacuum cleaner to shut off during use. A tripped overload on the vacuum suction motor can shut off the vacuum cleaner during use. If your vacuum has a reset button, push it; if the vacuum seems hot, let it cool off first.
Overheated Motor

If your vacuum was working fine and then suddenly shut off, it may have overheated. Most vacuums are equipped with a thermal protector safety switch that won`t allow the motor to run when it becomes overheated. You will need to wait for 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on your machine, to try again.

Most Dyson vacuums have a built in safety system that stops the machine if it begins to overheat. This usually happens because the filters need washing or your machine is blocked.
If the vacuum cleaner stops suddenly, the filters should be checked to make sure that they are not blocked or that they require changing. This applies to both bagged and bagless models. Also check if the nozzle or hose are blocked.
A universal motor is typically used as suction motor across vacuum cleaners. The universal motor is a series DC-motor that is specially designed to operate on alternating current (AC) as well as on direct current (DC). Universal motors have high starting torque, operate at high speed, and are lightweight.
The average life expectancy of a mid-range vacuum cleaner is about six years. You can fix or replace things like blocked filters, jammed brush rolls, frayed hoses, worn-out stick vac batteries and broken accessories yourself.
A vacuum cleaner can run continuously for 30 – 60 min each time. The vacuum cleaner has no suction power. For example, a hair cannot be sucked up.
Vacuuming every day, or even a few times a day, is not going to create any long term problems. `But,` you might be thinking, `doesn`t the brushes spinning over the carpet on a beater bar wear it out? ` Sure, but a very small amount.
If there is something that has become caught in the hose in another part of the system, the airflow will be reduced and can cause overheating and a shut down. Clear out hoses, attachments, and brushes of any hair, dirt, and debris. This will allow for restored airflow and should get things going again.
A strong odor from the shellac that coats the copper coil windings is an indicator that the motor is about to or has burnt out. If the motor is still running, even if it turns on and off by itself as it is heating and cooling, you can still run the motor until it gives up for good.
It`s possible there`s a power consumption issue, with there just not being enough residual charge to run the machine. A new battery should fix this. My other thought is that it`s overheating. If too much power is pushed through the motor, which MAX power does, it could stop after a few seconds if it become hot.
The vacuum has a safety feature that turns off the vacuum when the vacuum gets to a certain high temperature or overheats. This happens because the vacuum has a motor protective thermostat. If the vacuum turns off due to overheating, the thermostat has to be reset before you can use it again.
If there is something that has become caught in the hose in another part of the system, the airflow will be reduced and can cause overheating and a shut down. Clear out hoses, attachments, and brushes of any hair, dirt, and debris. This will allow for restored airflow and should get things going again.

ANSWER : The part that you call the particle size sensetivity adjuster is bad. There are 2 seals in the assembly, the lower seal is slipping out of place because the plastic lip which keeps it in place is broken. Split housings and replace part. This machine is alot of work to take appart and get back together correctly. Might want to bring to local vac shop. good luck.

Over heating? My 10 gallon 4HP shop vac has started shutting off after about 30 sec. after I turn it on to use. It smells real hot after I shut it off. I have changed the filter and the bag, which did not solve the problem. Any suggestions on what the problem could be? I have an easy flo vacuum model # 199C and it won’t shut off. It started out as an intermitent problem but now will not shut off when the hose is unplugged, nor when the off/on switch on the main unit is shut off. the only way to get the motor to stop running is to unplug the unit. Any ideas?
ANSWER : Just had this same problem. I unplugged the low voltage signal wires and the vacuum stayed on. Thus eliminating the possibility of the signal wires shorting out somewhere. I’m not really sure which wire(s) were causing the problem. But when I disassembled the top housing to expose the motor and wiring it seemed to work just fine. My theory is that the heat of the motor caused the insulation on a wire to melt which was then shorting somewhere inside the housing. I suggest removing the motor housing before buying any parts or calling easy-flo. If you’re lucky like me then your vacuum should be running again in a matter of minutes.

I posted my problem earlier today that I was having with my Bissell Little Green Machine not dispensing solution, but sucked up no problem. Someone said that the most common problem was a blockage. We put hot water in the reservoir for 15 minutes as advised and it still will not dispense. The fluid is now ”dribbling”so it is better. It is just not spraying. We are able to blow from the end and make bubbles in the reservoir which shows us it is not blocked. Any other suggestions?
ANSWER : Okay. I fixed this on mine. Undo the screws on the handle, right by the trigger. You pull the tubes off the little valve. Push on the button and see if you can blow through the valve. If not, push a pin around in the valve (with it pushed into the open position) until you can blow through it easily. Then flush it out with water. May take a couple tries. Then put it back together. Make sure you run clean water through it before putting it away. I think the solution tends to dry inside it. The machine never liked cheap cleaning formula.

My vacuum cleaner will not shut off when turned on. I have had it serviced twice by Sears, and for the third time I have experienced the same problem. I disassembled the upper have and it appears that the plastic mechanism designed to turn the switch on and off does not always catch the switch. Is there a way to fix this problem.
ANSWER : Put in a new switch, like toggle switch or use one off an old junk vaccum
