Dirt Devil CE6000 Featherlite Wet/Dry Vacuum

How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :

The exhaust filter traps particles as the air travels through the vacuum cleaner. If the filter is clogged, the vacuum cleaner will not have proper suction. If your vacuum filter is clogged, refer to your owner`s manual for cleaning instructions.
NOTE: The reset button is located on the upper left-hand side of the unit where the low voltage wires connect to the unit. It is most noticeable when popped out after the breaker has been tripped.
Clogged Air Filter/Exhaust Filter

Don`t forget the vacuum does have a maximum capacity of dirt that it can pick up! Make sure you empty the filter and ensure the exhaust filter in the back is empty and clear of obstructions. You can do this by opening the filter chamber, acquire the filter, and empty it into the trash.

Low suction or poor pick-up may be due to a clog in the vacuum cleaner. If you notice a change in the sound of the motor or a reduction in the spinning action, check for clogs. First, remove the Easy Empty dirt tank from the vacuum and discard all dirt and debris.
To fix a clog in the hose, feed one end into a garbage bag, and poke the other end with the back of a mop pole, until you push the clog material out into the garbage bag. To fix a clog in the vacuum, whether it is a canister or bag, use your finger to feel for a clog. Pull as much of it out as you can and discard.
The most common cause of loss of suction is that the filters have become blocked. They may require cleaning or replacing. Another cause could be that the vacuum cleaner hose is blocked.
First, check that the cord is properly connected to the vacuum cleaner (again, this is surprisingly easy to overlook) and that there are no splits in the rubber. If the cord is damaged, it will need immediately repairing or replacing. The on/off switch can break over time and need replacing.
It uses light sensing technology to measure the amount of dirt picked up and can thus be used to glean which parts of the house are dirtier than the others. The signals can also potentially be used to understand the size of the dirt picked up by the robotic vacuum cleaner.
The dust isn`t being stopped by the filter and is being exhausted out of the blower port and back into the air. This can be caused by a hole in the filter, the filter not being properly installed, or the dust being too fine for the filter.
Consumer Reviews On Dirt Devil Vacuum Cleaners

Consumers give high marks to some Dirt Devil models like the Breeze canister and the Featherlite bagged vacuum – where both get on average 4 out 5 stars based on over 200 ratings. That means that Dirt Devil has designed the perfect vacuum for the majority of home users.

The most important indication for the proper function of a vacuum pump is its ability to reach its specified final pressure, or ultimate vacuum. This can be determined with a calibrated gauge to measure the pump`s ultimate vacuum. If no such gauge is available, users can perform an initial function test.
A strong odor from the shellac that coats the copper coil windings is an indicator that the motor is about to or has burnt out. If the motor is still running, even if it turns on and off by itself as it is heating and cooling, you can still run the motor until it gives up for good.
Remove the brushroll and clean all hair, string, and lint from the brushroll bearings. If the vacuum cleaner brush still doesn`t spin after you clean the brushroll, consider replacing the brushroll.

Shampooer dispensing my dirtdevil shampooer does not dispense water throughtout all holes in bottom. how do I unclog them?
ANSWER : I occasionally run some water and vinegar (equal parts) through the machine, just as I do for clogged holes in my steam iron. So far it has been doing the job.

I have a Hoover Platinum carpet cleaner, and it has stopped dispensing cleaning agent and water. This model has a separate tank for water and separate tank for shampoo dispensing. It also has a power hand unit that dispenses shampoo. All along the hand unit has continued to dispense shampoo. Symptom #1, the water tank seemed to be taking on shampoo, as it was getting sudsy. Symptom #2 – On wash mode, nothing would come out, on Rinse mode, sudsy water would come out. Later, symptom #3 – not
ANSWER : Somewhere on the outlet is a control tap thats driven by a rubber band and something is up with this control ,best advice here is put it in the boot of the car and take iot to a hoover dealer ,they will do it seconds for you

The soap dispenser on my 2X is not dispensing.

I wrote with this initial problem and received a reply. We did everything recommended to find a clog. To begin with, we poked holes thru the little holes on the underside with a toothpick. Next we took the machine all apart as directed and cleaned out anything that had accumulated (such as pet hair). Eventually we emptied out the soap dispenser, filled it with a hot salt water solution and let it sit for 10 min. I ran three tanks of hot water

ANSWER : Hello,

The solution to your problem is already solved, since your soap dispenser is still under warrant,

What i will suggest is that you contact the company that supply you this product and explain everything to them, it is most likely they give you the solution to your problem or send someone to your aid, or can even replace the product for you.

Take care.

I have a bissell quickwash 1950-e. I bought it Jan. 2006, and have only used it 8-10 times, I live in a very hard water area, so I though if I put some vinegar in with the cleaning solution it would get rid of any hard water deposits, unfortunatly the solution went lumpy in the tank and stoped spraying out water, I have opened it, hose clean, sprayer not blocked, x at bottom of water container when depresed water trickles out, component that opens the x when water container placed, also ran wate
ANSWER : Hard to say what is causing your problem, replacing the cap and insert on the water tank may help, part #2041111, even tho it may trickle out water when depressed, they can still be bad. The other thing would be the rod not relesing the water like it should. The big draw back to this model is Bissell has obsoleted all of its parts and most are no longer available. Might be wiser to buy new.

The Hoover Steamvac Widepath will NOT pick up water. The dispenser with cleaner DOES have water. The TANK that would receive the dirty water is NOT full. All tanks are on properly and the machine will still not pick up the used water. I found a tear in the interior hose leading to the receiving tank and repaired throughly with electrical tape. Still will not pick up the water. Any suggestions?
ANSWER : Sounds like a clogged air path (no vacuum action) from the floor pick-up to the collection tank. Take the tanks off and deal with the vacuum problem alone. The collection tank should have a air exit vent–is it clear? Check the interior hose that you repaired–is it clogged? Remove the bottom plate and inspect the air path from it. Because this machine deals with water, clogs can become like concrete! Hope this helps!

I have a Sunbeam Model Number 4065-000 and there is white particles comming out of the holes in the bottom. I think it is because we used tap water and there is a lot of deposits in the water. I read on the box that it was ok to use tap water and not distilled water. Is ther any way to clean the inside out to get the deposits cleaned out without affecting the possibility of doing something to the cloths that I will iron after cleaning the iron?
ANSWER : If the deposits are recent and still fairly soft, running a tank of vinegar through the machine should remove the deposits (obviously not using on any clothes, hold it over a sink). if the deposits are more stubborn, you can use a cleaning agent like CLR. rinse the tank out thoroughly after and run through a tank of clean water. good luck!

My Kirby shampooer – G4 – hardly used any water from the tank and no suds at all. Pet hair did blow out of the small slotted holes in the tray as I moved the shampooer back and forth, but the carpet was basically dry. I did vacuum before shampooing, so the brush part seemed to work great during shampooing, but no water! The small screen was stuck in the crook of the hose that attached to the tank so I did get that out and put it on the small hole on the tank, but it didn’t make any difference. I
ANSWER : Few things:
Make sure the sponge and the valve under the sponge (water tank) is clean.
Make sure you follow the instructions (f you do not have the manual you can find one HERE)
See if the straw inside the water tank is not clogged (happens when you use toilet tissue or some other paper to dry inside of the tank after you shampoo)

Noise – if it is noisy al the time – it may need new shampooer brush roll. Also check the tray – bar brush roll bearings overheat and melt the tray… Never submerse brush roll in water when cleaning it. Clean it simply by lifting the shampooer nozzle and letting it spin for 10-20 seconds. If you have tu put it under running water – put it back in the shampooer nozzle (with tray and shield) put on Kirby and turn it on for 20 seconds or so. If it stays soaken wet – moisture damages barings.

Good luck

I have a Bissell Pro 2x carpet cleaner. The water heats properly as well as spraying the cleaning product. However, when I go to suction the water from the carpets, the 2 in 1 water tank bladder works properly but there is no dirty water outside the bladder. I have only used this carpet cleaner ~ 5 times and in the beginning I had to empty the suctioned water quite frequently as it was dirty and it could not not hold any more water. So I have done 1 room and all the dirt remains in the carpet
ANSWER : Check that the suction cone is not blocked. Check that the filter or hose to the bladder isn’t blocked as well.
